How did you hear about CoH?
I first heard about it from a PC Gamer article (for a while they sort of gently championed the game). Then when I was out of work and bored I realised that I had free trials for CoH and WoW on recent cover disks and gave them both a whirl. (This was 2005 - around I5).
If I remember rightly WoW didn't even make it to the end of character creation. Maybe I shouldn't have tried CoH first...

I knew about heroes when the site was still the OLD way, I think I was in my Senior year at High School which puts the year about 2001, I think. A school friend told me about it and was hooked before there were screenies. I think I was about 17, I'm now 25
Was burnt out from PPV in L2 and wanted a mmo that didn't revolve around 24/7 botting, cheating and adena buyers.
Read about City of Heroes and signed up Stateside even though I'd vowed never to touch another NCSoft game.
Fell in love from the moment it loaded up, enjoyed the trial and discovered there was a European version so here I am.
Took a few months break due to real life problems and now I'm back loving it more than ever and still managed to play with a broken arm over Xmas/New Year.

Read about it in some PC mag and thought 'now this looks interesting'. At the time was playing SWG and getting miffed with the way it was heading.
Unfortunately missed out on the beta but was ready and waiting for the EU launch.
Well, uh, just hijacked my brother's account he started when he heard of it. Found it interesting. He'd stopped using it, as he'd returned to a different MMO he was taking a sojourn from. Planetside, I think. Still using that account.
So far, this is still the only MMO I've played.
Read about it in PC Gamer and tried the cover disc with the 14 day trial on PC Zone (or was it the other way round?).
I'd bought the full game within the week.
I was working at Gamestation at the time, and reading the PC magazines that had covered the US launch.
When it was released over here, i bought it as fast as i could (which was acutally the 14th Feb). Rather unfortuantely my relationship at the time took a nose dive due to it being my 1st MMO and a slight addiction.
Flip side though, i have met some truely amazing people.
I first heard of CoH when 1up.com ran it's "Memoirs of an Urban Vigilante" series, back when it was doing regular diaries for a whole bunch of MMOs. Sharkey has long since stopped updating it, but you can still read it here...

The game looked really fun based on his description. But it would be another year or so before I actually bought it - I was too absorbed by Guild Wars at the time.

I love that Memoirs of an Urban Vigilante series, read it all a couple of months after starting, its such a shame it was such a short run.
