How did you hear about CoH?
I think I was surfing the net about upcoming MMOs and landed on the CoH page, applied for beta and got in.

Well i just saw it in a shop and at the time i was playing a game called "freedom Force"a nd loved it so another hero game was more than welcome to my collection.
I didnt even know it was a online game at first as it was my first ever one and didnt even know they exsisted lol, was so supprised when i saw other people in game flying and jumping about
A friend of mine mentioned it to me and my girlfriend (now fiancee) had just left for a 6 month around-the-world trip so I figured I had time on my hands so I bought it. This was about 2 months after the EU release.
I got into CoX when NCsoft did advertise. I first looked at the full page ads in Marvel Comics - probably 18 months or a year before I started playing. They aren't there any more - but I'm guessing it worked for them then.

I had a dream about standing under a giant man holding a huge ball. When I woke up I was covered in sweat and was gripping a CD-ROM.

I applied to the US beta and got in. Played it some there and got caught... hook, line and sinker.
The thing which appealed the most to me was the costume creator by far.

How did you hear about the beta though? Was it something you just stumbled upon on the interwebz?

After reading the glowing review in, (I think) GamesTM sometime before April 05.
The first thing that caught my eye was the character creation, never liked super heroes much and still don't but the character creation made me take the plunge and the game itself made me stay
Kneeling girls! Statues driving cars! What's going on? Ten years ago a man was arrested in the area for driving statues around in a car. Was it him?

I bought an actual boxed Deluxe copy in Sainsbury's. Hadn't heard of it, but just thought the "design your own superhero" thing sounded nifty.
That was just before the arenas came out. And, thanks to a series of friends, and many, many adventures, here I am...
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
I had heard about the beta going on but was wrapped up with other things at the time.
One job had just come to and end and I was writing full time for the BBC whilst holding down another full time job to actually pay for my existence.
When things started to ease up a little and I had some free time I looked around for this game, thinking it might have come out, only to find that it was being released the following week.
I pre-ordered at that point and the box arrived the day before the servers went live so I installed it there and then only to find that I could already log in to the game and there were people there. I was thrilled, had a great first evening and have been hooked ever since.

It was during the time i applied for every beta there was. I don't really recall where i found it first. I applied to every beta there was during that time, and i got in and played maybe 10-12 betas of MMOs during the period 2003-2005.

I heard about CoH on both TV gaming programes and gaming magazines during its making stage. Then when it came out examined the site, looked around and thought it looks like a cool game. Then possibly during EU relaese i saw it on a hobby shop, looked the box but decided to bought NWN double pack (NWN+SoU) like i didn't have both seperately.
Two years ago one of the gaming magazines gave trial code, i installed it and here i am since then.
(On a side note, even i heard many terrible things about DDO i tried it also on a trial and liked the game. Though luck they changed the payment options and i decided to leave the game. So for me trial accounts biggest appeal to the games. If it gets into your system it is really hard to get it out)
I learned about COH while just kicking the habit of Ultima Online. Read an article in a magazine. It was brand new and already had won several awards.
But I had just spend 1,5 years on UO so I resisted the temptation. Also because you couldn't get capes for instance.
Then forgot about it until I saw a Marvel Comics advertizing for City of Villains... hook, line, sinker...
I went to the shop and baught COV... I installed... liked... and ordered COH over the net.

I saw a small article about the end of beta event for the US in Pc Format and was immediately captured by the idea of playing a superhero, got my imagination going straight away, the idea for Coin was born a few days later
I read that it was US only and didn't realise that EU people could play the US game, saw that a forthcoming EU version was mentioned and decided to wait for that.
When it came out, snapped it up about a week after launch when we got it in at the MVC store I worked at after seeing on the shelf for a week, fired it up for the first time on Valentines Night (hows that for true love off Mrs Coin??!? ) and not stopped playing since!
Mrs Coin got into it about 15 months ago after suffering me playing it for so long. I got a new PC, my old one was sat idle, she wondered what could keep me so enthralled for so long and tried a trial. A few days later she was hooked as well and is still playing. Now my kids are clamoring for an account......

A friend told me he was playing it - the US version. Like a numpty, I waited the best part of a year for the EU version thinking I'd get better 'ping' (my only experience playing online until then was in FPS games and, back then at least, US servers meant terrible lag).
I bought it a week or so after it launched here.

and registered on the forum the same day as Coin it seems!
I use to work 12 hour rotating shifts. I was having a break the one night watching the TV in the canteen and Gamezone was on giving a review of the top 5 MMOs and CoH was 3rd IIRC. I jotted the name down on a bit of paper and ordered it the next day. I even got my brother (PANGAEA) interested.
I didn't, I was into the SuperHero genre but was not that active on the Internet re: MMO and gaming sites. Pure chance I stumbled upon CoH (1 month after launch) in my local branch of Gamestation, and as I had just returned a game that I was bored with/didn't work with my PC spec I thought I'd give it a try, the character creator info on the back appealed to my creative side. To be honest I half expected to return it the same weekend...

A friend of mine had it and introduced me to it. Had a quick game of it and enjoyed how it played and next thing i had ordered it up.
Its defiantly one of my most played games, so glad to have been introduced to it.

I remember seeing information about the US version when I was playing Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI among others, but it was a Dutch friend from Ragnarok Online on the chatroom I occupied who pointed me in the direction of the CoH EU beta, joined up, and been here mostly ever since with some breaks.
I saw an interview with Jack Emmert on TV, after hearing about it I was already sold so went out looking for it, only to discover my PC wasn't good enough to run the game I saved up for a new graphics card then found out it had just been released in the EU a month or so beforehand. Eventually got enough money to upgrade the computer and buy it then things got better so could keep the sub going.
Two new computers, 4 graphics cards and about 3 1/2 years later I'm posting in this thread.
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender

Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc
I think I've stumbled across it on the internet, probably while browsing for Freedom Force skins and models and such. (though could have been for Daggerfall stuff...) This was back when CoH was still in the design stage, there were no AT's, there were a lot of power pools, though.
I joined up on the forum, read a few of the great stories there. Instead of doing school work, you know?
Then, a year or two later in autumn we finally got a fairly fast and stable internet for a fixed amount a month. That openned up the home use of internet beyond the phone line modem.
I went to my favourite software store and there I saw CoH again. Immediately the old stories and the ideas popped into mind.
They told me the EU version was to be out in Februari, so I waited that long. Eventually got around to picking it up and had to return the next day for a game time card but.. well, that's that and here I am.

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
With all the current chat about NCsoft's apparent lack of marketing, I thought it would be interesting (although probably not terribly useful!) to hear how everyone heard about this game of ours. Apologies to those of us for whom it is going back a few years (the old brain ain't what it used to be)!
For myself, I remember reading a massive review in (i think) PCGamer, covering several pages. I remember the game appealing to me instantly ("Superheroes? Cool! Character customisation? Way cool!") but I couldn't buy the game straight away since my PC at the time wouldn't be able to run it. I pretty much then got a new PC for my birthday just to run CoH.
So for me, it was that glossy review in a gaming magazine
What about you?
