COH2 predicted by Massively

Plus, I can't think of anyone playing this game who WOULDN'T buy an expansion pack...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I know I would, but if for the sake of argument they went down the route of every other MMO expansion and increased the level cap by 10 levels, can you see everyone being happy about that?
[/ QUOTE ]
They dont need to increase the level cap, just give 50s something to do.
Or bring in that extra power slots idea they had for 50s, i liked the sound of that.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was a random example of something I knew many people would object to which is a staple of MMO expansions that many other people would expect to be there - thanks for proving my point!
While i tend to object to the idea of a lvl increase as i tend to view a character that hits 50 as finished (less so now that we have inventions and stuff) if those extra 10 or 20 lvls brought something solid to the game i wouldn't complain but it would have to be more than just new mission content or being able to take some of those powers missed on the road to 50.
Course with the wide net of source material they can draw from it should be pretty easy to give the players more maybe take the heroes to space some kind of galatic disaster or something and allow players characters to gain new and unusual "cosmic" powers.
I'm hoping that Cimerora was just a practice run for a bigger content expansion. I don't mind the idea of a paid for expansion especially if it's going to provide a load more playable content.
With all the build up over "The Coming Storm" I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a damp squib, when it arrives, if it ever arrives.
Only way I can think of a transfer character system working? If CoH 2 or V2 or whatever was without levels, then the option to register characters of yours to be imported in, giving you the name, costumeand a boost to your skills and abilities that doesn't make you lord over newcomers, but means you aren't starting completely bare.
Personally, i'd be happy if they gave us first option on the relevant names. I'm sure after the massive success of the cossie creator in COH 1 that COH 2 would be equally s good with the same and more parts, so making the cossie would be easy enough.
I like the idea of starting from scratch, what's the point of a new game if you start at lvl 50? Kind of missing it all out then
Would be fun to start Coin from lvl 1 again, go through a whole new game as him. Just as long as I ge that name.
Of course this means we#d have to have enough servers and probably have split into US/Eu again to avoid conflicts :S
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
Many apologies to anyone who read the pointless conversation with PRAF. I have taken it to PM to avoid further arguing on this thread where it isn't needed.
Again, sorry for the inconvinience.
I think the positioning of the servers needs a look at this time round too.
1st forray into the game in a week last night, abandoned due to lag, 6 people, 3 different countries all lagged/mapservered to death again.
If it was a new game not an expansion, hearing the servers were in the same place as these would be enough for me not to bother.

I would say, stop the 'splitting'. Unless they really expect it to be 'huge succes' they could do a continent seperated game, but if not we get into the same issues we currently have. GW had a great feature on this, now you are free to go US, EU or asia with your character.
Even the 'big games' suffer this problem, if you play outside the 'normal' times you get smacked in the face with a deserted server, unlike GW where you can pop over to US and find lotsa people online. But even if they make it seperate, i'll be going US version (same with Aion or GW2).
Ironicly, US i seem to play with just as 'little' lag as i play on the EU server, steady ping around 150-200ms. Only the 2 'crowded' servers i get laggy, but mostly only during peaks.

You have a point there; whereas I would probably buy a CoH2, I would be less likely to buy a European CoH2.
I would think a sequal would be an excellent oportunity to move to a single server environment.
I really should do something about this signature.

That was going to be the hero launch pad for the cancelled expansion pack with the Moon zone. It's shown on the map that came with CoV.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed the structure is the hero launch pad for what is believed to be a moon/space zone (with the villains one just south of the arena in PO iirc).
AFAIK we (the players) supposed that it may have been the cancelled expansion, but we've never been told that the moon/space zone has been cancelled have we?
PRAF - Just trying to clarify as I think you're reply can be read as if both the expansion and the zone were cancelled - afaik the zone may still be coming (maybe in a storm).

I have no special knowledge about the zones that where planned for teh expansion, afaik they went on indefinate hold. However, the game plot seems to have changed direction when the leadership changed. "The Coming Storm" wasn't hinted at until issue 9 or 10.
I really should do something about this signature.

Hardware permitting; Freedom's apparently loaded to the max in the US, and even the UK servers can struggle when activity spikes because of a new Issue, DXP weekend, etc...
Unless they can beef things up and/or streamline the software significantly, it might not be practical to merge everything.

A sequel would be the perfect time to address servers: whether or not it's single server I think the important thing is to avoid a continental split of lists of accessible servers. i.e. have several servers and mark some as US and some as 'rest of world' but make sure that any player can access any server.
I'd guess that many current EU CoX players would propbably join the US server list if starting today with the current CoH1 server setup.
On a level boost:
Sure many current players would be happy, but would that bring in new players? Would it bring back old players (for more than just a month to blitz through the new content)? Would it need some serious reworking and retconning of the existing game?
My personal guess is that a level increase loses out in estimated cost:benefit compared to CoH2 or just more level 50 content (possibly involving some form of power enhancement that doesn't involve dinging 51..)

They looking at a virtual server environment.
I believe the idea is to split a single server over several machines, and if you need to increase capacity you just add an additional machine to the loop.
Zones that become full just add an aditional instance of that zone, as happens already, but the change would be the additional instance could be on an additional machine.
I really should do something about this signature.
So something like the Eve set up, which although called one server it just a massive cluster
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

[/ QUOTE ]The construction site near the Arena in Port Oakes is for a pathway between the two ferry ports, it includes a stairway down from the platform above. It's not anything special.

Its' not. The map which shipped with CoV showed it leading to a "launch pad".
There was also a leak in a training room patch, which showed the construction further advanced, I have seen the screen shot, although I haven't got a link. It clearly shows the road leading out to the small island, where the foundation of a launch pad is visible.
I really should do something about this signature.
Yep its definetly going to be a Launch pad of soem description i remember the leak also if you hand around and talk to the workmen they some times mention it.
As to the server set up they could do something really interesting and have each server different and either have them working as parallel realities (gold old comic book stable there) or as different continents with some means of easily moving between them.
If they can't do a single server environment then, at the very least, they should allow anyone access to any server. That way you can create characters on any server and if 'your' server is quiet then you can easily go to where the people are. I finish work at 11pm and am not usually home until 11:30pm. if I had the option of creating a character on the 'US' servers I'd do it, simply because Defiant is just winding down at that point in time and I foten struggle to get a team. Union isn't isn;t that much better either.
Defiant 50's
Many and varied!
@Miss Chief
weirdly Union seems to get active again about 3 or 4am and over the last couple of weeks I've had some great teams in the wee small hours of the morning (holidays are great).
but yes i agree having access to a wider variety of time zones is a must if there gonna do a full on CoH2 but its something i would like to see introduced regardless.

Its when eastern Europe is starting to come online.
Ah of course well all the people i teamed with were very pleasant and i had much fun and the fact that they could all understand me even tho at the best of times my spelling is less than great and at 4 in the morning it can be down right unlegable just go's to further prove to me that the idea of segregating players into regions is a stupid idea IMO
