What do we think guys'n gals? COH with the Aion engine slapped on the front? I think 2009 is going to be really big for the game. We'll have competitors, and NCSoft pulling every trick in the book to keep us hooked to our online superhero addiction.

Oh, and congrats to the NCSoft COH team for winning the Korean award for best action MMO game.

COH 2 with a brand new engine? Interesting. It wouldn't run on my computer of course but interesting nonetheless. I want to know what that hook will be

Well NorCal are working on something as well as CoX, and the Aion engine is available to them, and I don't think there would be much milage in trying to pach up the current engine...

...it's probably just educated guesswork.

I really should do something about this signature.

Does Aion have moving hair?

If i may believe the video then yes it has some movement in the hair. aion movie .

BTW the aion engine is already used by NCSoft. So they got experienced programmers for another project like CoH 2 if they want.

Maybe Positron and his mentioned of planned graphics updates might be hinting at this - like he said the war walls would be coming down, and it turned out he meant the Rikti would invade

...You lot -do- realiase that Aion's running on CryEngine 2, an engine NC probably forked out quite a bit to use in Aion itself, right?

Just wondering.

On topic.. Where does Massively get its info from? Has there been some hint from Posi et al that there is going to be a CoH2 on the cards rather than a graphics update to the existing engine?

If a player had posted this as a topic on the boards I think it'd be shot down in flames as unlikely and all sorts of requests for source.

I am still getting used to the changes that have happened since I last played, and am still impressed that the game can hold its own amongst other mmos

That said a graphical update would be nice, and perhaps a sound overhaul.

Thats why i feel its a very unwise thing for the website to do. CoX and massively have always traded news for a while now and by them saying that the game needs a coh2 to compete will only get a lot of players going "we told you so".

I dont think a CoH2 will come out this year, almost defo a new box like the GvE eddition but unless theyv been working their butts off this past year (would explain all the new staff additions suppose) then just cant see it happening. Would be AWESOME though and i for one would buy it in an instant.

Only question is would people be happy to loose their characters and start afresh on a new system? Or have them copied over onto the new game? I for one wouldnt mind starting afresh . . . . . i can finally get the name damien then

It's educated guess work. Based on what the current engine is and how it works and the various statements by various devs as to how hard it'd be to make it lots better. While I don't agree with LionsBane to keep up with some of the nicer 'potential' features in CO CoH will have to pull out all the stops.

Personally I'm not sure about a new engine, that way they have the potential to lose quite a few CoH1 players, I'd expect to see a CoH2 based on the current engine but substantially altered, especially as Posi has said that they don't use a lot of its features yet.

@Necris
TBH Who would we rather lose a foul mouthed troll like you or someone who was just doing his job?

I think that whether it's grounded in unpublished info or just on pure speculation it ain't bad for a 5 year old game to be getting in the list of '5 MMOs to watch out for in 2009' - suggests that either the journalist is completely wrong (and just trying to make up an x-thousand words article) or that the devs must be doing something right.
