PvP fails in MMO's because Tank classes have no true role and become ignored players.

Fix the Tank and PvP can grow from there imho.

    In MMOs? Including War? Seriously?

    [/ QUOTE ]

In War its all about getting the healer, running past the Tank players who's CC got nerfed with everyone elses, they can't even use Taunt for a meagre help the squishy since its a damage boost power rather than CoX's targeting blocker. So what do people do? They ignore/neglect their defences in an attempt to improve their DPS but they at least get more to work with fairly early on (shared dmg on one teammate or the 'hold the line' deflect ranged for a very limited time for anyone behind them).

Might as well run a Scrapper at least they get critical damage compared to a Tanks average damage. Thats my point, the Tankers Gauntlet is nearly worthless and once again they become low damage Scrappers with higher defences/HP's with an occasional targetting stopper.

And listing any particular set for any AT in PvP as somehow making it seem 'good' does not imply that the class itself has a 'role' befefit of its name. PvP should always be about the players, not the perceived or actual imbalances in power combinations making the difference.

You're probably living in another world mate because none of the stuff you said are true.

One thing's for sure - it's impossible to have PvP without some kind of trashtalk - but it's important that it's not taken from humorous into aggressive - that's when it will put most people off trying PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

PvP without trashtalk is not pvp. Football without cursing is not football. I agree with the above post but most here want to see peaceful pvp which is [censored] impossible. Face it and move on.

  4. Put rewards in PVP like WoW does. Put PvP stuff and IOs that are only useful in PVP and not in PVE, so that way you could be uber/good in pvp with IOs that are not needed in pve. Remove mobs, badges and all the extra [censored] we dont need in pvp zones. Bring back mez protection and take off the heal nerf / movement supression. Give energy transfer the previous animation it had with decreased damage, Nerf earth/bubble.

Well I have to disagree with some of what you said, Scarlet. In particular, I feel issue 13 is a step in the right direction.

For what its worth, this is what would tempt me:

    1. Arena option "Disable invetion bonuses". That means I can have a cheap PvP second build without fartarsing about farmiing to be viable. This is a fairly straightforward intervention.

    2. Phase Shift. (and other escape powers). Nerf them to the point of complete uselessness please.

    3. Offensive Toggles. Make me laugh. Now you these get detoggled every 3 or 4 seconds it makes things like radiation infection useless. Supress them, dont detoggle.

    4. Buff the effects of AoE powers by 50% stat.

    5. Buff the effects of placable AoEs by 100%

    6. PVP community attitude replacement.

    There, that lot will help.

First, I think PvP is an important part of any multiplayer game, as there will always be some players who want to test themselves against other players, no matter how good NPC AI might be.

Second, a game with superheros and supervillains is simply crying out for PvP way more than, say, a typical fantasy game - in a typical fantasy setting, like LotR, for example, the enemy forces are usually hordes of evil creatures, and only the good side has a big variety of characters, but in a comicbook setting, it's very much about a battle between individual heroes and villains - so the ability for powerful individuals to face off against each other is needed much more in a comicbook game than in a fantasy game.

Second, I really don't think it's possible to ever have a totally balanced PvP system in any game that has a wide variety of powers and weapons.
If everyone can have ranged weapons, or all ranged weapons are banned, then it's possible to be pretty equal - but if you allow someone with a sword to fight someone with a laser blaster, then the ranged fighter will start with a very big advantage.
SUre, you can make the map in such a way that it evens things out a bit, like making it a maze, so it's very hard to get a good distance between the shooter and the target, but in any normal map, the ranged fighter should easily win.
Also, AT/class restrictions don't lend themselves to totally balanced PvP - in a comicbook or movie, charcters and powers are unique, fights are decided by what the story requires - so if a healer/defender style character was required to defeat one or more brute/scrapper types, then they'd do so, using some kind of move or trick that's beyond the capability of any videogame to make allowances for.
But in the same situation in PvP, then the lone healer/defender would get ganked by the gang of brutes/scrappers - because it's simply done by math, and not story needs.
So no matter how much you might love your squishy avatar and it's concept, it just might not be able to cut it in PvP, because math has to be the deciding factor in PvP, not story.

I never thought i'd say this, but i agree. lmao
  8. According to whom is 130k? Show me sources that confirm it and not MMOGChart because is not a source to trust. I agree with lionsbane, if pvp is not a big part of the game where is the massive ammount of players? Even PvE sucks on this game now.

Also the 25% is people who are pvping often and hardcore. Not including people who go to pvp once in blue moon.

I seriously doubt the precision of that number.

    Rant.

Team is the key. When LRSF was out Violators and EVIL literally farmed it, before it was even fixed. We did like 2 per day on different toons.

I'm just [censored] off by now. It's been around six months since I first attempted the Lord Recluse Strike Force. Six months. This was -after- I had discovered my fondness for Badge collecting. And in six months' time, still not a successful run.

And it's not because the teams suck, either. Not in the general sense, at least. I've never been on any of the fabled 'dream teams' for the LRSF, with a Granite Brute and Mind/Ice Dominator and who knows what else. They probably wouldn't take an Elec/Elec Brute anyway since you apparently need some god knows how specifically planned out team to defeat [censored] Statesman. Arrrrrrrrgh.

8 people, a Sonic/Sonic Corruptor, and a MM with Tar Patch, stacking ridiculous amounts of -res on top of a Chem Nuke, with 8 Shivans out... And Statesman just won't freaking drop. His HP just merrily shoots up when his zero-recharge Unstoppable is active. I don't even see orange numbers when he uses it, I don't see anything but grey 1s from whoever is actually able to damage him for the grand total of 1 damage per hit. What the hell. He regens back up to 75% despite the huge amount of -res on him, everyone has 4-8 or more red insps stacked on, and when it wears off and he drops to 10% again, BAM, Un-freaking-stoppable.

How the hell is this meant to be done without 8 of each freaking warburg nuke anyway? How do people actually manage to complete Master Of runs of this when he freaking Hand Claps the non-melee ATs to death if they happen stray too close to whatever the AoE size is? I can't wrap my brain around this.

I'm just going to make the logical assumption that my badging toon is cursed, and those are two (lol, three) badges I'll never ever have. Because six months of trying is just retarded. I realize it's the hardest task force in the game. But it doesn't even seem -mathematically- possible without 8x3 nukes, so how do people get Master Of badges for it? I don't know. I guess I never will know. The devs say the game is balanced around SOs. I'm on generic IOs, so I'm already stronger than SOs despite not having set bonuses.

Funnies thing? I actually completed the LRSF once. On the wrong toon. I just wanted the Apocalyptic badge for the accolade. I stuck around just for morbid mental laughs, and... We killed them all. How the hell we did that, I'll never know. Statesman managed to die somehow. I was on my Thugs/Dark Mastermind, who is not my badge toon. We had a Thugs/Dark in today's team as well, and States refused to drop. So it can't have been -my- toon that tipped the scales.

So what the hell am I missing?

    *goes to sleep it off*

All you need is a decent team.
