COH2 predicted by Massively
Aye... many a person paid to sober me up before the event started.
Now i know who wants to sign up for the job next time?
*edit* This is only because many a person will try and fail to get me enough coffee to make me hyperactive.

On the NCSoft jobs page, the NorCal studio is looking to recruit a Sound Designer, with two of the required skills being voice recording and voice editing -

Hmmm, Interesting!

if you also include the fact that NCSoft licenced the latest Unreal Engine for three titles I think it was. I'd guess Guild Wars 2, Lineage 3 and, erm, ahh, er, take a wild stab in the dark?
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe it was "Blade and Soul" which is currently in development
*edit* According to the Wikipedia page for Lineage 3... it isnt using the Unreal 3 engine anymore, and instead they are developing their own.
[/ QUOTE ]
LA3 probably has to do with the old dev team of LA2. Most of them moved over to another company and making Project S1, also based on the unreal engine.
Aion was a cry engine, although heavely modified. I thought Blade & Soul was also based on cry engine, but could pretty much be unreal engine.
Nevertheless, CoH could use a fresh new one But voice/sound acting, isnt this a bitty 'too late'?

As for shoehorning a graphics upgrade into the current engine (which was amaturishly designed in the first instance and is now held together with spitballs and chewing gum), it would actully be easier to take a functioning game engine with decient graphics and shoehorn the CoX gameplay into that.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem as I see it, is that then the game would look like the game engine, instead of looking like what it was wanted to be. Of course, practicality tends to spoil dreams. The reason why games tend to look too similar to my eye these days is because they share game engines.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is only a problem if you try to make your graphics as photorealistic as the engine alows, and it isn't just a problem for games using the same engine. There is natuarally a tendency for graphics engines to converge as they approach reality.
CO, DCUO and SWTOR are all trying to avoid this by using a stylised art style, and/or post-processing.
I really should do something about this signature.

They probably are. You can count on one hand the number of production quality renderers that are out there. RenderMan, V-Ray, mental ray, and Brazil are a few examples.
Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider

Ah, but movies don't look alike. They have a style, determined by the art direction.
Batman
Batman and Robin
Dark Night
Superman Returns
Iron Man
The Matrix
Do these movies look alike?
At one time the look of a computer game was at least partially determined by the capabilities of the engine. Then engines started to aproach photorealism, and games started to all look alike. Now game developers have discovered they need art direction in order to make thier game stand out.
I really should do something about this signature.
