COH2 predicted by Massively
You might be onto something there actually... they can't merge CoH1 servers without getting 'this game is dead' syndrome... however if they re-released the game as CoH2 and everyone had to start from scratch in a newer game universe they'd avoid that possibility, plus if it coincided with a graphics overhaul and boxed product they'd increase their footfall too.
Whether or not they can move the existing game into a new engine fast enough to beat CO is a different matter personally I doubt it, I'd reckon at 2 - 3 years for that and while the finished product would be much better (probably) than CO it'd also be three years away, so no competition. So its down to timing, unless something has happened to CO (Atari buying Cryptic?) or NCSoft have been working on the new version since before they bought the IP, possible but unlikely, I'd say that any new expansion will use the existing engine.

GhostRaptor: Server populations have been trending upwards since Issue 13 release. There are no current plans for any server mergers and we're looking forward to Issue 14 and the rest of the year.
Massively don't normally base articles on pure speculation, ...still, nice for a sequel to this MMO to be considered highly anticipated. NCsoft/NCwest would be complete fools not to capitalise on the current success and market-share and not undertake either a sequel or a comprehensive re-vamp for the next 5-10 years of the licence.
There was speculation around the time I first joined about CoH2 - but that came to naught.
I think I also read relatively recently that the existing CoX engine had many more capabilities that we've currently seen but they didn't want to upgrade it too much for fear of losing those who play with relatively low spec machines.
That would tend to contradict this article I believe because I think the Crysis engine is too much for many lower end machines.
But we also know that Matt Miller likes to give us left-field leads that whilst not exactly misleading are not what we normally read into things. So, maybe he has been speaking to Massively (who do seem to have good links to NCNorCal) and they have inferred something
That said it's unlikely to be a rumour published without Positron's knowledge. So I would guestimate that we're in for something shiny in the GFX department ere long. Probably somewhere between article and here.
Thelonious Monk
Its an oppinion he post, not a 'news'item. Its not that weird they make hints to a possible CoH2, guildwars2 will have sortlike 'move over' abilities for all current GW players.
If it will be Aion engine (afaik just the cry engine), i am not sure. Although it has all the abilities on board to support such a game.
I believe CoH is put at least 3rd, with Aion and GW2 on top, NCkorea also focusing on soul&blade, will there still be place for a CoH2?

Plus, don't underestimate the influence and excitability of our firmly entrenched spies..err I mean "subscribing fans" in the Massively.com MMO reviewing team.
i see no dev posting about it, so i don't have much hope about COX2 being true at all.
first i want a dev confirm it, then i can believe it.

You don't need to believe yet, but hope is surely called for?
Like I don't believe Necris is worth paying attention to, but I hope he rapidly leaves to PvP in EVE where his ilk belong...

They won't confirm it until they are ready to anounce it with a big splash, which will likely, just by coincidence, be around the same time as CO goes live.
Take a look at SWTOR. Many of us suspected it was in development for well over a year, right from the time we knew Bioware where working on a MMO, but they left the official anouncement until they where ready to make a splash with it.
You don't need to be told to work out what someone is up to, you just need a bit of intellegence.

No it isn't. As the Massively article points out, people are more likely to stick with CoX if they think it is going somewhere (which is why the idea of character transfer is so important).
As it is, it won't matter anyway, as CO is going to bomb, but they would have made thier plans long before that became apparent.

PRAF shut the god damn [censored] up ---- Yes CoX does need PvP, becoz without it a lot less ppl would have joined this game that is fact, all i hear (see) from u the majority of the time now is stupid badly thought out comments. go back to your cave you stupid arrogant know it all troll (and before u ask if i get banned for this its worth it)
[/ QUOTE ]
It may need PvP but it's not going to get it in any meaningful way. This is not because of percieved imbalances of powers per se but because the invention system has created a few haves (many of whom like to PvP) and a majority of have nots.
This means those who arent loaded with inventions havent a chance against those that have. And, realistically, they can never get them. So they're gonna get fed up losing and not bother with PvP.
Additionally the motivation to actuaLly enter PvP theatres is pretty meager. The zones arent exciting enough, awards/rewards not compelling enough etc etc etc. (Sirens is to my mind an exception to that rule.)
Those are the issues that needed addressing. I will lay money that all they have achieved with the messing with PvP pwers is they have lost PvP players (maybe players have quit altogether)
If I'm right, does anyone think that the arbitary, un discussed power changes were a good idea?
If these devs would just brain storm the consequences of doing this or doing, rather than just deciding without consultation, what is best for us, that we would all save so much grief...

You don't like PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I quite enjoy the odd bit of casual PvP (or at least I did before issue 13, I can't be bothered to learn the new set up), I just like PvE better, and think PvP is a massive time-sink for the developers.

We like CoH because of the costumes, not PvP.

This is where I draw the line. You do NOT speak for everyone. You most certainly do not speak for me, and I enjoy the apsects of PvE just as much as PvP. So please remove yourself off the My Little Pony you call a high horse.

I was simply resonding to a particular comment that was dismisive about costumes.
It's not just the costumes I like, I like the whole of the PvE gameplay, I was making a generalisation.

This, however, is not, since issue 13 diminishing returns has pretty much nullified any advantages gained from inventions, which is one of the reasons PvPers who have spent a lot of inf on thier characters are so unhappy.
And it's worth noting that the issue in which invetions where added, issue 9, was the most successful recent issue in terms of increasing subscription numbers. People like phat loot.

Thats why i feel its a very unwise thing for the website to do. CoX and massively have always traded news for a while now and by them saying that the game needs a coh2 to compete will only get a lot of players going "we told you so".
I dont think a CoH2 will come out this year, almost defo a new box like the GvE eddition but unless theyv been working their butts off this past year (would explain all the new staff additions suppose) then just cant see it happening. Would be AWESOME though and i for one would buy it in an instant.
Only question is would people be happy to loose their characters and start afresh on a new system? Or have them copied over onto the new game? I for one wouldnt mind starting afresh . . . . . i can finally get the name damien then
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course they just build a new game with this engine. A lot if those developers are free now to work on a new project. Why not CoH 2? It is one of the successful games NCSoft got, they got the manpower, they got the title and even a base of players to start with.
Would I miss my existing toons? Yep but well I can always recreate the ones I like most. Its like reinventing batman again. Grinning Spade as hero, after years of being the bad guy he has seen the light and start gunning out baddies instead? Exposing himself to danger instead of relying on manpower to do his dirty work? What are the odds?
