sex change, with a condition

All variations possible to make using costume slots should be possible. It enhances the creativity and variation.

I agree to all previous reasons.. especially the ones given by Zortel. Some like the female -> huge shift wouldn't even be a sex change. Just added bulk or special bulky suit.

Agreed....

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Female to Huge and Male to Huge I like the idea of, but I'd take female costume sets for males and vice versa over female to male gender swap. So, to stem confusion I am in favour, I just don't think it likely.

Edit: And not, as people may think because of the "link" to transgenderism. I was simply trying to explain Harbi's point there.

I think it unlikely because there's obviously a lot of code involved. Contacts know if you're male or female, there are male and female badge differences - that's going to be a lot trickier than simply body shape.

Not to mention the sound you make when you jump

Indeed that would require a change into the database of the game itself. Because the gender becomes something that is costume based instead of character based and every character has up to 5 costume slots. It might even require an extra database query which could slow the server a bit down.

That would make a seemingly simple change a bit harder to implement. Not sure if the demand for this option outweighs the trouble for achieving it.

You waited a fair while then! I mention minor issues re gender referencing from contacts and badges over an hour before Stase's post!

Was CoH an age 12 rated game? Or soemthing... anyway, i think because there could be players of a young age playing, the idea of trans-gender characters is a bit... well let's say it's more mature content. Does that sound reasonable to people?

[/ QUOTE ]

A villain group dedicated to tearing apart innocent civilians and harvesting their organs isn't mature content?

I haven't seen any children traumatised by that, so I think they'd be able to handle a character switching genders tbh.

However said organ stealing is socially (and stupidly) far less controversial. You have to remember this will also apply to the American side of the game.

Few short answers....

No, Why and also Whats the point.

[/ QUOTE ]
Well for one thing it's not often I get to cite Nuns on the Run as a reason for anything.

I support being able to change underlying model because there are some male toons I'd make huge, and vice versa. I'm not fussed either way about male-female swaps. Could be a laugh eh, especially in RP terms.

I doubt this thread is the right place to have an in depth discussion about gender changing issues. Note that this is not the same as saying, "I do not think this discussion should happen", but it risks derailing the main thrust of the topic.

it discriminates between male, female, and huge.

[/ QUOTE ]

I never got that, why not either incorporate the huge option into male or have the option for huge female?

Personally, I'd prefer to see the option of altering your height. I've got a toon that's based around being a size-changer and it's such a bugger just being small all the time

just for a reminder, the game is rated for teens, the box even said 16+...not really something to worry about for kids of 12 years....

That's CoV, CoH is 12 in the EU (and rated Teen in the US).

Zwillinger: I put on my robe and wizard hat...

The... CoH loading screen does have the PEGI 16+ rating on its loading screen now. It does have 12+ on the box, but to be honest, does anywhere even sell CoH on its own anymore?

Just a thought, but I think it's safe to assume CoH got itself re-rated with the advent of CoV. Not that it should matter one bit, frankly.

actually its 16+ pluss for both as since the release of the good Vs Evil pack they no longer exist as indevidual games

Indevidual packs you see in the shops or online are stock left over from when they were indevidual games

Also, PEGI ratings are voluntary guidelines, not a legal requirement or enforcement. It's about as binding as me holding a bit of paper in front of your face with "You might disapprove of this" written on it.

If NCSoft wanted to cover the vaguest concept of transgenderism, which I personally believe is applicable for a 16+ PEGI game, there's no reason at all why they couldn't. It's not like there'd be a 'Very Special Story Arc' covering a hero's emotional turmoil over whether to stay as their natural gender, or the one they feel more comfortable with.

It'd be, in general terms, a very arbitrary change. The only onus ever placed on the 'sex-change' mechanic would be from roleplayers, who wouldn't be covered by a legally enforcable rating, let alone a PEGI one.

there is an RP side on it to sex change, a man/woman dressed like the opposite sex.

Exactly. RPers are the only people who would put any sort of serious thought into it. The rest of the game's population can simply use the mechanic for purely fun reasons, whatever they might be.

We already have plenty of Roleplayers rolling new toons as opposite-gender versions of their other characters (seems to be the cool thing to do these days, at least on Union GG), this would certainly make it less of a hassle and save character slots.

It would also greatly help those of us who's characters are shape shifters!

As i don't want to get deep into discussion i only ask one thing:

Is gender change too much different than logging in with a female heroine while you hang around with team couple of hours as a male?

I am easy with any changes that only effects players' self heroes. We have heroes running around in nothing but briefs, or nearly naked (skin color/suit color match).

As this would change the databese behind the game and involve a lot of coding. Yes this matters a lot.

I'm against this, it'd make the game too bizarre.
If you want a female toon, roll a female toon.
If you want a male toon, roll a male toon.
If you want a huge toon, roll a huge toon.

I suppose Male -> Huge would'nt be so bad, but City of Transvestites would just be odd. I'm not against the concept in real life, but CoX, after all, is not real life.

I'd love to see this happen. My L50 Ice tank is actually a small Japanese professor in a large mech suit. He's currently based on the huge body size, but I'd love to have one costume slot of him out of his battle suit. It seems a shame he's locked in there for ever
