you'll find tons more "controversial" material than Presto-Changeo-Man magically changing into a woman.

I very much doubt the American developers and market would think the same way, though.

It wouldn't be bad if they put this in, if they do it then hey, it's another thing to play with for some people. That's great. It's more likely that if we get anything new aside from costume pieces for character customisation, it'll be the ability to change Height at Icon/Face.

Personally though I'd rather concentrate on some solid content.

Being turned into the opposite sex is a staple of American cartoons usually the character ends up learning that girls aren't icky or boys aren't stupid.

the type of people who'd get offended and quit probably already did after they met their first lesbian cat girl any way so no big deal.

And considering the widespread, main stream appeal of video games do you honestly think that there wouldn't any drama at all?

A video game lends an interactive element to the subject matter which, personally, I think some (admittedly closed minded) people will find at odds to their own personal beliefs. You've just got to look at all the drama over violence and sex in videogames and almost nothing to the same level of furor when it comes to books or movies.

You mention cartoons, sure - but I doubt said cartoons go in to an indepth discussion over something like gender dysmorphia.

People are dumb, especially when it comes to videogames. I can't see this being implemented because of the existance of dumb people in the world. Personally I'm fine with it, I just think it highly unlikely.

People in this thread are seeing an opinion that doesn't match their own and are throwing up the prejudice card. I'm sorry, what? This is a discussion about the possibility on the games message board with an (arguably) reasonably tight knit and knowledgable community and look what state people are getting in to. Do you honestly think it'd fair better in the big wide world?

First: The game is not real life and there is no connection between real life issues that affect many people is quite horrible ways.

Second: How is a change from Male to Huge in anyway connected to any of the issues that some of you keep bringing up?

Third: The title of the the thread is wrong, this is not about 'sex change' it is about changing the in game character's body type.

Fourth: Asking for the thread to be moderated or locked, the continued fighting over whether or not Transgender issues or transvestism is mature/right/wrong/etc is not what this thread should be discussing.

I have personal issues here and I for one am fed up with the continued trivialisation of the whole subject.

No one reads my posts anymore.

Male to Huge makes sense however the chances of it being implemented without the rest is slim, or at least would cause much uproar if done.

A few posts at the beginning of the thread, and none until it was kindly brought up by the Colonel doesn't, I think, constitute continuous.

Ah I forgot it wouldn't be a case of going to icon or /CC 01 we'd have to write an essay on transgenderism or even transhumanism every time.

I'm pretty sure CoX is based on comics y'know where no one bats and eyelid at this sort of thing.

Likewise this isn't a main stream video game, the media doesn't care about PC games hell when they exposed a pedophile ring using Second Life to groom people it got less media coverage than the latests WAGs fiasco.

I'm fine with this if it would be classed as shapeshifting or transmogrification, but cross-dressing and transvestite superheroes is just a bit, well, daring. I cannot stress enough that transgender people do not bother me in real life, nor does the concept; infact I happen to know one. If transgender superheroes are brought into the comic world, then that's fine, but I don't think CoH should be the arc to bring it.

As the Rabbit himself said before; it's not awesome just because it's taboo.

Problem is they can both be done with the costume generator as is, at least post kilts.

It seems a great many of you are confusing the issue and I suspect your doing so for your own gains

Mystique was stated by me as a example of a hero (or villain) who could change shape from female to male and vice versa, its her thing she dose it but if you've read any of the stories where she's played more than just a generic villain you would realise shape shifting is only part of her character she is also a accomplished martial artist sniper and all round assassin and can operate more than adequately without the need to resort to shifting shape. she is also more than likely bisexual (omg a character in a comic aimed at young people that’s bisexual quick call some one) what’s all this got to do with CoH and changing from male to female body types not a lot only the first part matters its a power and not all powers have to have some in game advantage they can just be powers.

Look at it this way if the devs were to introduce a new range of movement types so instead of running every where you could walk or hover (not fly just hover at normal movement speed no rising slowly into the air) or tunnel under the ground these would have absolutely zero effect on game play nothing nada.

Same goes for FX customisation of powers Zero effect on game play changes nothing a green fire ball dose the same damage as a red fire ball as a rainbow coulerd fire ball but people want it

Why do they want it because it adds to there character it further defines there character just like having wings dose or rocket boot or picking face number 7 from the many options available

and that’s what swapping between male female and huge body types will bring those who want to do a "not hulk" can do one they can have puny human form and hulking great monster form those who want to have a body jumping parasite can have there body jumping parasite all it is, is another layer of character customisation and lets not forget character customisation is CoHV big thing its the one thing it dos better than every other MMO I’ve come across and I suspect every other MMO out there period there for anything that improves the lvl of customisation can only be a good thing

All those who say "its a bad idea cause it doesn’t make sense" or "its a bad idea because it encourages Transgenderism" or some other such nonsense should go have a long hard think about why there really objecting to this suggestion and while there at it go read some comics and watch kids hero based cartoons and superhero movies and come back and give a convincing argument as to why form changing doesn’t makes sense in a comic book d based game.

Lost ninja managed to put it much better than me this thread should be about the ability to change character models at icon (or somewhere) and not all the other unrelated stuff that keeps getting dredged up

Would you please stop telling those of us that are skeptical of this idea that we have ulterior motives?

As for our arguments being for our "own gain", how strange. We can't sway the devs, we can simply state why we're unsure of the idea or simply do not want it - surely those of you who're arguing that it would be a good and useful change are (also) doing so for your own gain? You'd actually gain something from it, after all.

I really don't see why people are getting so uptight over a little QoL suggestion. Some people want it, some people don't. I can't see any sensible reason why not, personally, but it seems to be getting all blown WAY out of proportion!
