yeah when i came back to COH from a break I was not pleased with the inclusion of the hollows, its a really sucky zone imo
**Acceptable "support" responses**
Its your fault
Its your computers fault
Its your ISPs fault
Having tu walk ur way thru mobs +10's when u dont have travel powers, and besides thru cliffs u dont see till u fall is sucky??? No way it's the funniest part of the game!!! Well, that and soloing Hami (note: big loads of sarchasm included there )
You aint seen fun until you've got a mission in the depths of Perez Park at level 10
on word - Faultline.
try that with no travel powers.. or at most Superspeed
(i'm soo gonna get slapped at by saying this )
*ahem*
Hollows is fun!
Yes, i'm serious about this.
I had some great times leveling my toons from 6 to 14 in just a few days and trying to navigate through the Hollows evading Madness Mages and Lead Bricks. (it's a good challenge in preperation for other high level zones)
But then again, i've been playing for almost a year with several low level alts, and got quite good at the hollows.
I've tried leveling up without using the hollows, but i keep finding the Frosty and Defeat All missions pretty good fun.
Atta on the other hand is a bit nasty and requires a good team and a lot of patience and time.
But most of the missions i get from teams in the hollows get my toons from 6 to 14 in no time without using any of my other contacts.
I think it takes time to learn all the ins and outs of navigating through the hollows. IMHO
Hero: Star Jewel(50)
Associates: Gemstone; Storm Lock; Star Sparkle; Dawnshade; Lunara; ...more
Enemies: Shadow Vine; Tirana Q; Forte Cadenza; Black Ion; Pursuit; ...more
Hmm, I have to admit I haven't been in Faultline much at low levels - there are no missions there spare the hunts, are there? I wish the Faultline trial would make it to live someday, I think the zone looks really cool despite being a pain to navigate.
Anyway, my problem with Perez is that unlike Hollows, it hasn't gotten any better for me. I don't die a lot traveling in Hollows anymore as I'm more accustomed to aggro range and can go around the mobs but I still have no idea how to avoid getting killed in the Perez maze, except invisibility. The only thing I have learned is to try to avoid it if I can.

Yes, because as Brimmy so politely makes clear to someone who is a new player to CoH, with a bluntly rude post, these forums aren't the place for expressing an opinion without someone jumping down your throat!

If no one says anything, nothing will happen. One day the Devs might get sick of hearing about players being sick of Hollows and install some sort of teleport between the two entrances to the Hollows. Anywhere else and I think the Trolls might destroy it.

But nothing needs to happen! It's a great zone - so, your mission at level 6 is at the far side of the zone - so you get to Julius and stop the trolls damming the river mission and all the trolls in the river are still +5. What you do get is a great zone with loadsa interesting features - it's not that hard to cross without faceplanting even with +10s about - you get Frostfire and Atta - fantastic missions for xp - you get the cavern of transcedence trial which gives you a nice shiny badge - a very easy to find 'hospital express' when you want to level and can't be arsed to run back to atlas/skyway (+10s ftw!) - and the fun of jumping through the gulch when you finally get your travel power!
Don't change the hollows devs whatever you do!

starting to fit in then arent i (j/k)
well if it had been some sort of question or some other point i could have simply said that there would be a better placement for it. the OP from my PoV is just an attempt to start another "we hate hollows" rampage...
@EU Brimmy - Union and Exalted servers
Hollows is fun, but the placement of some early mission doors could be better - why send level 6 to the far side of the big pit?
Unless Hollows was fun and profit, nobody would be there. In fact, I find it is much harder to find any non-Hollows team than a Hollows team at those levels, everybody is there. Ergo, Hollows must be preferable to the alternative.
Of course, this also tells us the alternative (ordinary zones) includes way to much running from a contact in one zone who gives missions in another. This should stop!

Not quite, this was my first experience in CoH and fankly to be sent to the Hollow was just painfull, so much that i was about to give up and forget about CoH and rolling another villain. So i felt like letting know other Unionist heroes my feeling on this not so great experience.
The thread tittle state that i'm venting, thus if you don't want to read a rant, don't click on the thread! Thanks you very much.
Edit- Also you can't deny the fact that CoV missions, contacts, story arcs are much more friendly to new player and less of a hassle. Nerva is perhaps the expection with the hospital at the bottom of the map but by then you are 25-30 so having a travel power helps alot and not so much of a problem.
Just try to keep in mind i started the game via CoV so having to experience the harsh zones in CoH is not fun, -at all-.

in this case all i can do is rephrase myself then i guess.
When it comes to hazard zones such as Hollows you do not have to do it.
When you are sent there all you have to do is talk to the contact you get and then return to the former one, without taking a mish ofc, sure there is a chance that some "non-hollows" mishes will be located there but they are few and rare....
That better then?
@EU Brimmy - Union and Exalted servers
Ok, I been playing COH for around 2 months now and have 6 toons all around lvl 12. I have been playing COV around 3 weeks and have 2 toons around lvl 5. Your problem with the Hollows after coming from CoV is easily explained. CoV is easier at early lvls than the good guy game.
At lvl 5 when you 1st go there YES the Hollows is a pain, a totl pain, and all new players go through what you have. The thing is, you learn to pick your fights and you learn how to be cautious when running around mobs. All valuable life lessons I suspect for the higher lvls.
Be patient and the Hollows will become your holiday resort, believe me.
Re the coments on Perez Park, BURN IT DOWN!!!!! ITS A DEATH TRAP!!!!!

CoV is not 'easier', in fact, teaming in large CoV teams is more challenging than CoH as the AT's don't blend as naturally. It's just designed a hell of a lot better. Hollows sucks becuase of poor design, not because it's difficult. An 8 man team can work a LOT better before level 10 on CoH than it can on CoV.
I am another great fan of the Hollows since the days of Beta as its a tough zone that teaches you many lessons early on in particular avoiding aggro and large mob management, I just don't get that same feeling early on in COV :-)
Kryo
You don't have to do The Hollows. You get one mission to talk to cop dude at the gate, you say hi to him, you go back to the contact who gave you that mission and they'll send you to Atlas / Kings Row and you continue on
Personally I love the place. But I also love Coffee Quality Streets so meh, my judgement mightn't be the best.
actually, i find hollows to be the perfect training area. This is good place for new players to learn to master the art of team-play (since AT/powers has low effect) and to respect non-white targets. It should be noted (and many devs have in the past) that Hollows is a 'Hazard Area'. By statesmans own grand vision of hazard areas, no1 should enter them without a team to back u up. no1 is supposed to be sprinting solo through Hollows. this goes for all Hazard areas. (though hollows and Perez Park are the toughest due to lack of travel power)
If a player feels he cant take on hollows solo (which is strongly reccomended that he dont) he can alwasy do some quiet, relaxing sprinting in Galaxy or Steel Canyon.
and btw, if u are observant enough and do it enough times, u learn the spawn-spots of most mobs. this way u can safely sprint through entire HOllows at minimum risk... and yes.. i have sprinted solo to the 'CoT-mountain' several times, avoided CoT and Pulmecites easily at lvl 5-10 without any kind of stealth or invis or speed boosters... just as easy as sprinting a lvl 1 to Peregrin Island
Maybe be bad luck but CoH seems very evil for new players to me, CoV is much better designed for ease of getting into.
perhaps, but in CoV there is a few things that actually sux atm, that CoH lacks mob-wise
CoV dont have enough story arcs and no hazard areas.. this means paper missions (that every hero envys) force u to fight alot of CoT at a very low lvl, and over ad over again.. CoT is a very, very, very common foe in CoV and that is no fun since they are really wicked...
CoV respec is imo alot harder than CoH.. i rarely fail it, but its still very tough (and yes ive done both many times enough to have an oppinion) and fighting CoT in a respec aint fun (just as the lvl 44+ in CoH is a pain with ritkis) but we hace CoT in both lvl 24-33 and 34-43
for some reason CoV has odd mob-spawns.. they like to be close to doors, both inside and outside.. that isnt as common in CoH (most has ben removed from mission doors) in CoV this is very common, especially at later lvls. (and heist-missions that always has mobs close to door inside of mish)

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't envy paper missions. Paper missions seem to me to be a cheap way out for the devs, and mean that players get cheap xp, without having to negotiate sometimes difficult zones to get to contacts, and the missions are frightfully simple and lack imagination. That's just my opinion, not having gotten overly far so far in villains. They are, to me, like having a contact who you need to get to anothe rlevel for, who continuously gives you 'defeat x of y' missions.
I've said it in other Hollows threads, but I do enjoy the zone. In fact, one of my SGmates Triggarin, who we met while moving some new toons through the hollows, had just started CoH after dinging a 40 villain. We basicaly smashed through the hollows, and he never said a bad thing about it, it seemed he enjoyed it as much as the rest of us do. Maybe it depends on the mindset of the player as to whether they really hate the zone.
Maybe it depends on your teammates, the people who you meet there, etc.
I've read that War Witch has gone through the hollows and Perez Park and removed/moved/added doors around the zones. Its on the US forums, someone might be kind enough to post a link, I'm not that person right now. She's removed mobs from outside doors and done a quick spruce up like that. She wasn't given oodles of time to do it like the other zones she was working on, so it was just a brief visit.
Shrug.
