Discussion: 63 And 66 Month Veteran Rewards!

So...what would be the point of having them in the first place? If everyone has them, it's not a special reward.

There's *plenty* in the first year that's good. I don't think that veteran rewards that aren't *that* significant are going to be what causes people to leave.

These rewards are alright. The extra slots for 66 months is a decent reward, but I'm baffled by 63. I mean, I get what the "Fog of War" is -- I just don't see the value of having it lifted. Clearly I'm missing something; I have never once entered a map and thought, "Oh, I wish this map was revealed." Does this pinpoint glowies or tell you where mobs are located?

I think it'd be cool to keep any future veteran rewards like these two.

I'm not complaining (I know what it's like to be "here since launch" and it's nice to get a little recognition from the company for that).
I just think that, yeah, there's a long wait for many cool rewards as it is. Piling up much more can be disheartening to newcomers.

So, yeah... these types of rewards I could see continuing and being good for the CoH vets and the game.

I just would kind of hate to see any new costume parts and such be given (Well, maybe something very very specifically signature to CoH/V for the next year milestone).

Seriously though... I think these are good rewards.
That's just my opinion.

They could catch up - just $35 per vet reward badge, and you must get them in order. That would be pretty fair. Maybe even offer a special - just $2000 and they will bring you up to 60. That's a heck of a lot less than I paid! (And yes, I'm being silly to put things in perspective.)

I'm with Houtex on the 63 month reward. Maybe even more so. It's kinda fun to go back to Atlas with a character that's got 1500 hours of play and see there's still a few corners that you've never visited. I can think of one use for the power, though. Sometimes there will be a small door/tunnel that isn't obvious on the map. If I watch the map just as the power goes off, it's going to be real easy to see where the new areas are. If I'm on another level, though, I'll probably miss it.

P.S. There are no real levels in this game. When you go up or down an elevator, what you really do is teleport sideways a long way. The minimap is set so you can't zoom out far enough to see the other "levels" but they are there. This gets real obvious when you see somebody's aura trail zip by when they use an elevator.

Looks good. Not great, but good. But then the City Traveler is going to be hard to beat. The Fog of War Reveal will help with my OCD about uncovering zone maps. Hopefully, it's permanent.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is all good for outdoor areas, but I wouldn't WANT to reveal the fog of war of many instanced maps, as when I'm trying to locate that last glowie/enemy to defeat, close check of the fog is important.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seconded.
Personally, I more often than not find FoW *useful*, since it allows you to see where you've been. I can't think of many cases where I'd want to completely remove all FoW (rendering a power that removes all FoW fairly useless).

What would be neat is if this gave us "tiered" FoW.
At first everything would be black (with areas being uncovered as we explore them). When the power is used, the black areas would become semi-transparent, showing us what's behind, but still noticeably darker than the explored areas. This would both allow us to see where we've been, and give us an overview of the map.

We already have semi-transparent FoW in city zones, so if maps could be made to handle both black *and* semi-transparent FoW, that should allow for this.

That'd actually be a Vet Reward I'd use.

I'm mostly disappointed because I was hoping that vet rewards would eventually stop at some point. 5 years seemed the best place. As it is, there's no way I can ever catch up to get the new rewards. I've been around since release, but I had no way of knowing at the time that if I stayed subscribed I'd be able to get stuff.

[u]Makes it worse when new stuff comes out and there are rewards I actually WANT, but I can't get, and will NEVER be able to catch up to.[u]

This, emphasis mine. This will sound bitter, but can VR stop already? For many people, there are only so many years they can spend in a game, also for different reasons other than growing tired of it.

63 Months: Honorable

In addition to the Honorable Badge, each character can claim a power that, when activated, will completely remove any map of Fog of War.

[/ QUOTE ]

Lame. In this day and age, Fog of War is pointless. You can get details for maps at VidiotMaps.Com or even at ParagonWiki.

It's (past) time to remove the Fog of War from the game. A token for a Free Character Rename or Free Server Transfer would be more useful.

66 Months: Enduring

As well as the Enduring Badge, each character will obtain the following:

<ul type="square">[*]+5 Salvage Inventory Slots[*]+5 Recipe Inventory Slots[*]+1 Auction House Inventory Slot[/list]
[/ QUOTE ]

This is nice. We need to have our maximum Salvage Slots increased. I think the max is currently 80. This will boost it to 85. Just need a minimum of 15 more Slots!

If someone only plays the game for 3 years, why should they give a hoot about what someone that's played the game 5 years gets?

Either stay and get it, or leave and don't worry about it...

63 is pretty lame

66 is nice, what I would expect of a Vet Reward. Handy, but nowhere near unbalancing.

I'm kinda in the same boat of 'ok-ness' for the rewards... the map reveal will be kinda neat. But for this, one should get something special... like dual auras. Say, oh, I dunno... firey eyes and tendril bodies, for example, in different colors to boot. Bet that'd be really hard though, or something...

Seeing as I'm just about 1 year behind all that... doesn't really apply to me does it? But I'll work on it.

re: 63 Month - Honorable

Um... Cerise Dawn is *anything* but honorable... so... what's the villian equivalent on this? Dishonorable? Heinous? Cowardly? Well, of course, not that one, that's silly, villains are pretty uncowardly, just evil, or at least ill tempered.

The Enduring one for 66 is fine and dandy. Especially if you got your 50 Mind/Psi Dom there before the 'fren'ed the Doms. *points to self*

I'm kinda thinking the badges aren't for Heroes/Villains, but for self. Still, it's going to be kinda funny to have Cerise with the 'Honorable' tab underneath, when everyone in the Rogue Isle knows different.

/Kinda wondering what the 69 month reward will be...

Well, the 3 month badge is Trustworthy...

I suspect this sounds bitter because you're bitter.

In order to work at my current company for 50 years, I would have to stay there until I'm in my 90's. I can never and will never get that recognition. Therefore, that recognition should be abolished??

I'd love to know how many people actually qualify for the 63 month badge on the first possible day. (Which, I think discount bugs, would be 7/27?)

My main account has had an uninterrupted subscription since the 3-day pre-order head-start. (My 2nd account is about a month behind)

What this power means is that when you step into a hazard zone you can view the entire map right away instead of having to explore the map to uncover it. The power will be invaluable for lifting fog of war in the Shadow Shard.

Not sure if this has been covered, but does "Reveal" reach beyond a certain floor? Like, if I use Reveal on the first floor of an office building, will the other four floors be revealed as well?

[/ QUOTE ]

An interesting distinction to make! When I read this I only thought of the outdoor zone maps, not internal maps. It would be my guess that this is for outdoors only.

Dev confirmation one way or another would be good.

I'm just the opposite. At this point of the game, I would very much like a feature that gets rid of all the blackness on maps I'm very familiar with. Even better if it works on new maps too. I'm looking forward to it.

The new slots will be very handy too.

the recipe slots are nice...but uh fog of war?...am i suppose to be familar with this term?

[/ QUOTE ]

Its a term that goes all the way back to the good ole days of command and conquer and other games that have minimaps.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's actually attributed to Carl von Clausewitz, back in the early 1800s.

I can't help but wonder if this thread prompted this announcement. I mean, I make a post about a new vet power I've found that I've never heard of before, and less than 12 hours later an official announcement goes up confirming it?

Sure the power's icon has been uploaded to ParagonWiki since March, but I'd never heard of it, and judging by the reactions in this thread and the other, neither had most of the forumgoers.

Exactly the same situation here. Those "lost" days really irritate me at times also.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Not impressed. I was looking forward to finding out what they was. And now wish i didnt know what is waiting. 60 Was great!
And finally was going right path with vets. Butyou went back to ehh. Put in some respec's and that will help it some. But what is there is hardly a good reward for those who stayed in the game this long.

However: now I'll get those spots that were unreachable in many maps, like outside the bobbles in the shard.
