Anyone posted about a drunk controller on a Hess TF yet? Sorry about that.

Actually, that's not entirely true. If there is more than one instance of Mercy Island, the Black Helicopter by Kalinda will allow you to move between them (e.g. move from Mercy Island 2 to Mercy Island 3). That way lowbies don't have to hike all the way to the Port Oakes ferry just to be in the same zone if they end up in different ones.

Still, the belief that it does nothing is perfectly understandable, as multiple instances of Mercy Island are quite rare outside of reactivation weekends, double xp weekends or other special events.

[/ QUOTE ]

The other Black Helicopter that services Nerva, St. Martial, and Grandville on the other hand is totally redundant as it is sitting so close to the ferry, which services Cap and Sharkhead as well. I don't see what that Black Helicopter was put for there for in the first place.

Ugh, I met a guy who, for reasons too long to go into, decided he had something to prove. He invited me to a Task Force the next night, using a second account, then "revealed" that it was him again, ha ha! I decided to stay and ignore the jabs. As soon as the TF started, he DCed, and I assumed he'd quit after "making his point," but he appeared for the last mission and got credit. God only knows what he thought he was proving about his skill as a player by not playing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps he was trying to prove how cool it is to cheat other players.
That guy is really "cool" - if cool means being an absolute jerk.
So maybe he was trying to be "smooth" - if smooth means being a leach.

I think that the AE exploits have brought a very bad crowd to this game.

I remember when we were known as the friendliest and most helpful players in any MMORPG.
These scum are going to ruin our rep pretty quickly if they stay here much longer.
I'm sure the DEVs can use their money, but what is it costing us?

Love the Positron TF comments - that brings back a ton of memories from when me and my buddy were just starting our SG a couple summers ago. We were right in the range for Positron and a couple of level 50's who were working on their badges asked if we'd care to join them. They were fine with the exemping part, but really horrible at using the powers they had left. They couldn't deal with Rollister and crew knocking us all over the board and quit. My friend and I tried to crawl our way through that board so we could get to the next mission and have it reset to the new team size, but no go. We quit and immediately restarted, inviting another high level toon to join us. By the second mission, the lack of xp was so annoying to him that he also quit on us. And so that day went on, and on. We probably tried to get that going 4 straight times - like watching Groundhog Day!!! In the end, we found someone our own level who wasn't freaked by the loss of powers and xp and we actually enjoyed the ride.
And just for fairness, my own greatest noob moment came from the power Vengence. I got it at level 20, and just couldn't figure out how to make it work. Re-read the description and realized I had to be on a team. Okay, I got on a team. Somebody died. I pushed alt-10, where I had Vengence slotted for use. Nothing. I tried and tried and nothing happened. What the!? Reread the power a dozen times, joined a bunch of teams (man I hate empathy defenders!!!). I must have gained 20 levels before I accidentally managed to trigger it the first time. I just never thought to ask, and nobody bothered to ask me if I had it. But I remember the time it first went off. We were on some train map, and suddenly all our heads started with that red glow. We wiped the mob up and I, still not realizing, asked why we all had the Nemesis helmet-glowie thing going! I think the whole team stopped, turned, and just stared at me. The other MA scrapper on the team said something like, "that would be your Vengence power". I was all, "oh, yeah - I knew that. Ha ha..." That's when I realized I had been following and targeting through the Tank, who got whacked, and I accidentally triggered the Vengence instead of my Focus Chi. Sure enough, next time someone dropped, I targeted them and triggered Vengence and we all had the glowie head thing! I was so astounded to see the icon go off, I think I stopped playing just to get up and whoop and hollar around the room.
Since people have been kind to me when I was a bumbling idiot, I really make an effort to be tolerant when I encounter wonky game behavior, just making simple suggestions.

Just call me "The Pool Guy" - cause I believe that power pools are the ultimate in powerset proliferation. Fewer powers to develop and available to all.

Oooh... now we're talking about people failing to know their transportation? Yeah... I've run into that. I've met at least three people who didn't know about the Black Helicopter Line between Cap Au Diable and Mercy Island. Each time I teamed with these folks, they took the long way through Port Oakes.

I may have that beat. Back in the day, I accepted an invite from the daughter of some friends of mine, and we were in Atlas Park. The only other teammate, one of her new online friends, asked if we had any characters in Kings Row.

I think it may have been another kid on his/her parents' account, as s/he didn't know it was even possible to travel between zones.

I was on a level 21 scrapper this weekend and got an tell, "Want to join level 23 mish in Talos?

I figured why not. I get to Talos and the mish is selected and I can tell from the title that it is a radio mish. I figure, even better, I haven't done the bank mission for this level yet.

I check the levels of the teammates and see they range from 21 - 23. Then I notice that the diff of the mission is Rugged (level3). I figure, rough but doable with a good team.

We enter mission and I see nothing but red and purple level 25 Warriors. We don't have a tank, but we have 3 scrappers, one of them is level 23. I don't have star so I wait for guidance from leader. No one wants to start. If I was level 23, I would have taken point, but I know as a level 21 facing Warriors 4 times my level, I would get chopped to pieces. Finally, someone does a pull shot.

We proceed into the warehouse and make the first left we get to and people start dying left and right. By the time the chaos cleared, we had teamwiped and two members had quit without a word, including the level 23 scrapper.

As we hospital out and return, I suggest, maybe you should reduce difficulty. Leader agrees and does just that. I am waiting at door and finally team assembles and leader says, Ok, let's go, and team enters. I didn't see the mission change to reset the map, but had looked away for a moment while taking out a nearby mob to pass the time and thought I had missed it. We enter mish and the map was how we had left it and the mobs were still red and purple level 25's.

So I ask leader on team chat, Did you reset mish?

Leader, How?

Me, First everyone exit mission. Mass exodus ensues.

Me, Now select someone else's mission, then select your mission again.

Three minutes pass by as various members are getting agitated and offering mission selection options that they see. One member even said to pass star already. When that was said, I finally, belatedly, check on leader's badges. A three month vet badge and a large amount of AE badges. I pm to the teammate who called to have star passed (he seemed to have a decent grasp on how to play the 'real' game), She's an MA Baby. As soon as I said that, he quit.

Finally, leader selected a new mission. Then leader says, New mission up, sorry about that, I haven't played in years.

I quit right there and moved on to something else. I have patience, but if you don't have a grasp on such a simple game mechanic, you probably shouldn't be leading any teams. I suspect the leader didn't even know that the 'real' game doesn't auto-sk the players.

Heh, MA really is getting blamed for everything these days isn't it?

1) AE badges are not hard to earn. I have earned dozens of them on a toon while testing my own arcs and only playing actual MA missions 5 or 6 times.

2) Having a level 23 after 3-6 months of playing is not exactly what I'd call power-leveling.

3) I never lead teams in my early days of playing because I was afraid of doing something wrong, so I was probably at least a 6 month vet before I found out that you had to push the "Select Mission" button so the others on the team could see the location.

Sounds like the player you ran into was just genuinely inexperienced at leading teams and didn't know, or forgot, how to reset missions. Sorry to say it, but I think it's possible you were the bad teammate in this circumstance.

So I got a blind invite to an AE boss farm while playing my Energy blaster. Sure, whatever, I don't care - I just want to blast things and get XP right now anyway. The team's halfway through the map already, and I fly up and start blasting away with single target attacks, only hitting my explosive attack when the earth controllr drops his AoE immobilize.

We kill a couple of groups like this and then someone gets extra aggro and we have two groups and people are taking a bit too much damage so I hit Aim and Buildup and Nova, taking out a third of the two groups and tenderizing the rest quite well for easy cleanup. Or so I thought. A moment later the leader tells me "Don't use your primary, seriously."

Out of all the bad teams I've been on, that was the most idiotic request I'd ever seen. Makes me long for the days when there were actually teams a-plenty doing radio missions or story arcs. I suppose I coulda stuck around and just used Electric Fence and Air Superiority, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

He was either an AE farm baby or an Ebay Account user. I hate both types, especially when they think that, just because they've got another character on their account that's a 50 that you don't. Makes me laugh to bring up my entire stable and put them in their place.

Was on a team with 1 of those the other day. We pointed out that the 3 of us in the same SG each had a minimum of 12 50's. Not Pl'd. I just like running toons to 50, I'm funny that way.
Which is part of the reason I didnt like merits. I used to bring the most useful toon on TF's, not my merit gatherer.

Learn something new everyday. All this time I've been playing with some really good tanks and never knew that "herding" was the term for what they do so well.

I've not had the experience of waiting for the tank to lead the herd to the rest of the team. Instead, most times the tank is way out ahead of the team and pretty much does exactly as Umbral described.

As a matter of fact, this seems to be fit in with the tactics I've seen in both my SG teams and PuG teams. We basically just steamroll the opposition.

[/ QUOTE ]

What really drives tanks crazy, is when you are running into a room in granite and you are passed up by a warshade that runs around agroing everything in the large room, then dragiing them back and dying. Taking the empath along for the hospital ride because they made the misguided attempt to keep the WS alive. I have seen blasters do this also. Then complain loudly when they faceplant. I dont have to herd(though it is useful with some foes/situations). Let me at least grab a little of the agro before you leroy jenkins in there. If you really think you want to tank, Ill give you your shot. Just dont be upset at eating carpet.

I've played with some really good tanks who will actually go out to the next mob when it's clear that the rest of the team can handle the current mob. Keeps the flow of combat very smooth.

I've got a couple of tanks myself, but haven't perfected the art of tanking. Often someone else on the team takes up tanking duties with me, usually another tanker or maybe a scrapper.

I've had incredibly similar experiences. However, mine were when the Tank whined and whined when the Warshade went ahead and killed everything so the Tank didn't get to herd.

I have noticed neither an uptick nor a decrease in the number of n00bs since i14.

What I can tell you is that there were lots and lots before i14. Given those realities, it seems unlikely that the MA system is truly repsonsible for virtually ALL the n00bs we run into. They would have been n00bs with or without AE.
