I'd be pretty surprised if it hadn't. This one dates back to 2007, though, so there is that.

This may not be the most epic of confessions, but I'm fond of it due to it's place in the venerable "Post your best costume designs" thread.

    That's me on the left.
  3. Doing a MoLRSF back in the days when it was hard as ****. With a largely pickup team featuring multiple MMs and Dominators rather than the standard accepted fare of Brutes and Radiation Corrupters.

We go in for the careful pull. We snipe-pull the first Hero... and a few seconds later the entire lot of them come piling in after. What follows was the most intense fight I've been in in my City of Heroes career. I'm spamming all of my powers. My health bar is playing pong. Several times teammates almost go down. But we do it. Somehow, by the skin of our teeth, we manage to beat those Heroes into submission all at the same time.

I've never felt so proud of a group of individual before or since.
  4. Haven't tried it, though I should probably give it a look.

Towns just got Greenlit on Steam. I've played an earlier version, and if you are looking for Dwarf Fortress with understandable graphics, this is a great place to go.

This is more true of video game investment than video game development, though obviously that investment drives the AAA industry. There is a lot more to video game development that just following the money, however. To call the indie scene vibrant right now would be doing it a disservice, and even at the big league levels the industry as a whole is undergoing a massive shift due to the rise of highly successful crowdfunded games. Crowdfunding as a whole is probably the best thing to happen to video games in a long time. As you point out, the AAA industry bends at the whims of investors, whose goals don't actually have much in common with the people that end up using their product. Crowdfunding changes all that, requiring companies to pitch to investment sources that are looking for a very different return on their investment: namely gamers, who want to play a good game more than they want to make money off of a successful game.
  6. I haven't played Cthulhu Saves The World (though it, like many other games is languishing in my Steam library). I have, however, played Penny Arcade's On The Rainslick Precipice of Darkness 3, which I am told is very stylistically similar, and which I also recommend.

EDIT: JayboH, if you can get past a ridiculous learning curve and extremely simplistic graphics, I highly recommend Dwarf Fortress.
  7. Seconding Space Chem. Absolutely loved it, though it isn't for everyone.

Mark of the Ninja just came out on XBox, and it's pretty amazing. Stealthy ninja-stabby-killy.

SPAZ (Space Pirates and Zombies) is a really fun game; I've sunk a good 25+ hours into it already.

I'm also anxiously awaiting Skulls of the Shogun. I got to play this at PAX, and I was pretty wowed.

The AAA industry isn't out of the game yet, either, with Dishonoured, Assassin's Creed 3, and X-Com: Enemy Unknown all coming out in the next month or so.

As far as MMO's go, I've been having a lot of fun in Firefall of late. It's a bit lacking in content at the moment, but the core game is really well done, and I'd say it's a textbook example of how to do a game right.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of that build. I feel that you've sacrificed too much to have that high of a global recharge, and I really don't think that much global recharge is making up for the poor slotting and power choices you've had to take to get it. What you are gaining in global recharge a lot of the time, you are almost completely losing in the recharge slotting for the power.

I've done a bit more tweaking with the build. I realized that I had forgotten to factor in my accolades, especially the +HP ones. The previous build is around 150HP over the HP cap with Hoarfrost active. So, I've redistributed, and gotten a bit more recharge, and a bit more regen.

Mostly just a lack of decent powers, especially for a Dominator. Propel (a single target ranged damage/knockback power), while thematically cool, just isn't that good when you have an entire assault secondary to chose from. Crush (single target damage/immob) and Lift (single target damage/knockup) suffer from similar problems. Dimension shift is pretty terrible for obvious reasons (targeted AoE intangible). Additionally, Wormhole can be a pretty frustrating power for the rest of the team if the Grav doesn't know how to use it properly. It's still a pretty good power, but open for abuse.
  10. So, with the advent of i21, I've taken another look at this build. I never did implement the proposed build above, which is good, because I think this one is better.

Also, I'm sorry for not responding to your guys' suggestions. They've definitely helped craft this build, and I'm thankful for your input.

  11. So I've been running Soul Mastery on this guy for a while now, which is totally fine for most content, but I've found it kind of lacking when doing trials. Given that he is my main (and has over 1000 badges on him), I really want to ramp up his effectiveness.

Goals of the build: Softcap S/L, Perma-dom with as much extra recharge as possible, and plenty of damage. I'm willing to spend a fair bit of inf, but nothing in the range of PvP IOs.

Here's what I've got so far. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I am ok with this outcome.

Given the Victorian and Edwardian inspiration for the entire steampunk aesthetic, I would go with the fencing foils for a steampunk character. But then again, I also go for fancy hats and monocles rather than "omgz brass everywhere!".

I think the strength of the steampunk genre comes from its contrast with the prim and proper ideals of 19th century Europe. A good character design would definitely leverage this.

Ponder? Hell, if a pack of these were offered (or even individually), I'd buy it in an instant.
  15. In response to the actual question raised in the OP: those powersets will work fine. In fact, with a team of 8 setted 50s, played by competent people, damn near anything will work. The "uber" builds are only really needed if are attempting to solo said enemies.

  18. I'm surprised more people don't know of Bananaman. I practically grew up on his show.

  19. Though most of the changes are fine, I would also like to voice my disappointment in the changes to the CaH/VC forum. That forum is the primary reason I keep coming to these boards even when I'm not doing a lot of playing.

1st Mechanized Infantry isn't all MMs, but we certainly welcome recruits of all shapes, sizes, and ATs.

I'm trying to remember who organized the all-MM strike forces... those were fun.
