San Diego ComicCon - HIGHLIGHTS

I haven't seen anyone post anything from the Comic Con panel, all I did was take some notes, but I thought I would share:

Panel Included (in order they sat left to right):

Brian Clayton - Grand Poobah of Paragon Studios
Matt "Positron" Miller - Lead Systems Designer
Melissa "War Witch" Bianco - Lead Designer
Jesse “Ghost Falcon” Caceres - Producer
David "Noble Savage" Nakayama - Lord of Art

Bulleted points:

  • Brian Clayton introduced panel
  • Over 80 people work at Paragon Studios now; a picture was shown of their cubicle farm. It was either a fun place to work in a Northern California way or an oppressive sweatshop led by an evil Tyrant
  • They talked about the issues from the time they took over from Cryptic (Issue 14-17)
  • Over 10,000 beta invites for GR have went out;
  • The devs put up a selection of positive comments from beta;
  • Positron stated that Praetoria has content for levels 1-20;
  • Devs showed Vidoc #2;
  • Positron admitted he mispronounced Vigilante on that video
  • Devs stated that Going Rogue mechanic begins in Praetoria for characters that start there, but "more advanced" (their characterization) begins at level 20;
  • The devs described the GR system;
  • War Witch mispronounced "melee" and blamed it on Mother Canada, Steven Harper has introduced a bill with strong conservative support to revoke Ms. Bianco's health care;
  • Positron talked about zone events and gave the example of helping or hurting a group of protesters.
  • After the panel, I asked him if Incarnates were connected to the zone events, he said yes.
  • Brian Clayton asked the panel about City of Heroes2, they in unison chanted the official line regarding that;
  • Clayton asked Positron to address the removal of the Alpha Slot from GR. Positron stated that he wanted the slot to be more "fun" and when it returns will have more features than the beta testers saw;
  • War Witch stated in response to a question that Praetoria will expand beyond what will launch in I18. She would not commit to the specific form that change would take;
  • Finally, the devs stated that existing characters can enter Praetoria via Pocket D.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Thanks, Gecko. Would you happen to have any of those "positive comments from beta"?

Thank you EG. And thank you to everyone who's there, taking notes and such for those of us who couldn't make it!

No, sorry. They weren't substantive, there were of the vein of, "This is awesome."

Like I said, these were just some notes plugged into my Blackberry. I expected someone to have posted a video by now.

There had to be more to it that this...? No?

This was all in the Reinventing a Supeheroic MMO panel?
They said they cook a lot of new info and screens not seen before. No new screenshots? No new screens of the new costumes to be included in GR? Really?

Nice to have that confirmed again - espeically as it seems to confirm the idea that the Incarnate zone events take place in Praerotira, so a copy of GR will stil bee needed to access the system.

The devs seemed like they needed caffeine.

My biggest regret is not meeting the EvilGeko and buying him a beer.

My greatest acheivment is using a work connection to get a 4-day pass from Marvel with the name "Sam Guthrie" on it.

They did show the new costume sets. But I could have sworn we've seen those before.

I harassed Ghost Falcon with all sorts of questions that he could neither confirm or deny (which means they are at least possible):

On future expansions beyond Going Rogue: "We're looking forward to Going Rogue launching in August."

On multi-group raid functionality: "No comment (he was visibly struggling not to say something out of turn. The EvilGeko was relishing the torment! )

On integrated voice chat: It's something that's been discussed. (That was sort of disappointing because he actually commented. )

I, for one, don't relish the idea of WoW-style mega-raids, since I don't think the smaller servers will be able to muster the numbers for them consistently (leading to more bleed to the big ones, more people quitting in frustration, and more merge/don't merge/shutdown/don't shut down brouhaha). Additionally, I just don't like that kind of thing. That said, I believe a significant number of people do want this kind of thing and have for a while, so I suppose it's good they're (probably) working on it.

First, isn't the upcoming Cathedral of Pain a 24-player raid of sorts?

Second, wasn't there a rumored test, a while back, of trying to allow players to team across shards, like the WoW dungeons and pvp battlegrounds now do? Seems that would solve the small server population problem.

The devs never said what we were supposed to test. The person that reported that^^^ showed up once, said something confusing, and disappeared never to be seen again. And no one could duplicate their "observations."

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Welcome to the interwebs, where unsubstantiated rumors persist. I've given up trying to kill the BS that is the, "Cross-Server Teaming" rumor. I hope you do better than I did.

I support the DumpleBerry!!
