MA Babies (lots of MA badges, no vet badges) have causes a massive influx of this sort of thing. I try to be patient and instruct them in case they really don't know better, and often times they appreciate the friendly advice.

The last time I got really ticked, however, was in getting invited to an MA team. The difficulty really was too high for the crew assembled, and one person quit after a faceplant. The team leader just yells, "g2g, see ya!" leaving the rest of us in there. Sure enough, we start hemmoraging players till there are only about three of us left.

We end up calling it and go back to the AE area, and the same team leader that bailed on us is there hanging out. As I'm making a note on him to never again team with this clown, he runs up and sends me a tell asking if I'd like to join his SG.

I've seen a lot of Kheldian n00bs lately. The worst is when they have the impression that this game is entirely linear, and that if you could roll a kheld , you certainly wouldn't be playing anything else. They'll then use this as their trump card when arguing incredibly stupid points. "Trust me when I tell you that enhancements aren't that important thanks to auto-sk. Afterall, one of us is playing an epic archetype and one of us isn't , so I think it's clear who knows what they're talking about"

I ran into another one of those AE noobs a week or so ago. He was on his SOA talking trash and assumed I didn't have a level 50 Villain.

Fortunately I was on my second account so I logged into my main and activated my SOA. I tricked the loser into thinking I was able to log into more than one character on the same account because my globals appear identical. (I used the I for an L trick) I left him there sputtering and confused because as I told him, "A player with real experience knows how to log two characters on at the same time. Cya later NOOB!"

I agree. I think if you're worried that you might be a bad player, then you probably aren't. The bad players are usually completely oblivious to it. As several people have mentioned, usually any advice pitched their way goes in one ear and out the other.

I was on a mish one time with a stone/SS tanker, level 28. I was wondering why I kept dying so I looked at his build.

He took hurdle but didn't have any other fitness power, nor did he have his taunt yet.
So I mentioned, "dude...you know hurdle doesn't work with granite armor right?"
Needless to say, the entire mish was a complete failure and he quit the team.
I don't remember the exact build, but I do remember it was the worst tanker build I had ever seen.
He looked like he had been PL'ed, since he really didn't know what he was doing during the mish.

Recent Favourite:

MA mission which had Cow custom critters, and four Lord Recluses as objectives

Dark Tanker who didn't turn on his toggles, and would complain about being one-shotted. When I suggested firing up the toggles, he turned on one, the AOE damage one. I further suggested he turn more on.

Granite Stone Tanker, team leader, who could survive Lord Recluse aggro, but would not use Taunt or Mudpots to keep attention on himself. His regular attacks didn't seem to keep Recluse's attention most of the time, so Recluse ran amok and trashed the rest of us.

Or, he'd continue to fight, run himself out of endurance, and run away to rest, and get smoked.

As much fun as it is trading horror stories of Mewbs, we should honestly give it a shot to teach them. When that lvl 42 Warshade asks where Peregrine Island is, tell them, straight out, honestly, politely, how to get there.

When you're on a team with people who don't seem to know how to use their powers, do what you can, within the limit of your frustration and tolerance, to inform them.

Undoubtedly, some of the subjects of this thread will become bored and leave Paragon, but some have the ability to learn, and enjoy the wonderful world we're a part of.

How about we do our best to extend our tolerance and help out the newcomers.

(Why do I feel like an after-school special?)

Wicked Wendy:[ QUOTE ]
Well the first mission we get is the Safeguard in Talos. Now keep in mind I said TALOS that's 31-36 level territory so you sort of assume at that point that players have at least some clue how to play their characters and the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
Talos is actually more like 20-30; it's Bricks and Founders that are closer to 31-36. At 31 you can't get scanner missions in Talos anymore. Still, the point stands that by that level they should have some idea of how to play.

I believe Wicked Wendy is referring to the Safeguard where you protect the Talos Island Bank, not the Safeguard you actually get from running Scanner missions in Talos Island. In Talos it is possible to get the Steel Canyon Safeguard (Levels 20-25) and the Independence Port Safeguard (Levels 25-30). The Talos Island Safeguard is Levels 30-35.

Okay, reversal time!

Guess we all ARE horrible team mates sometimes!

I was sidekicking a friend through the Freakspec, got smoked, and hit the base medical facilities without thinking, leaving a defender against a +7 Freak wave. Doh!

She survived, and we won the day. No thanks to me!

On the theme of clueless Granite tankers, I've got a recent one. I was doing some idle badge hunting on my 47 Rad/Rad Defender when I get a tell inviting me to a scanner team in PI. I check the inviter to see if I have any Notes on him (got into the habit of that lately after getting burned a few times) and accept.

So I arrive in PI and there are two other folks on the team. The inviter is a Dual Blades/WP Scrapper and seems new but reasonably competent. He pays attention, he sets missions promptly, no big deal. Asks a lot of questions about the game, the enemy groups, etc.

The other team member is a Stone tanker, one of those who's respecced and dropped all the armors after getting Granite. So the team leader gets a Carnie mission. You can probably guess where this is going. I suggest that the tanker switch to Minerals. He says he has Granite so he doesn't need it. Tank proceeds to die a lot.

Tank complains that the mission is too hard for us (settings unchanged from previous) so the leader, trying to be accomodating, switches from scanners to getting missions from a contact. So he goes and talks to Tina, and gets the Psychic Clockwork King mission. I explain that our Tanker is going to have a hard time with that. Leader listens, but Tanker shouts me down. You can guess what happened from there. Go ahead, guess.

Added a positive Player Note for the considerate newbie Scrapper and an intensely negative one for the not-so-new should-know-better Tanker.

Usually they are PL'd, thanks to AE, as I've stated before, without AE, they would been weeded out by time they hit 40s, let alone 50. Do to look new shiny over there!

O ya i remember i once joined a team and the leader was geting more and more guys. Soon after he gets 8 people to join he says to us, "okay i'm going to go now invite [name] Rainbow[me] you get star" Then we all we asked him why he was leaving and then he answered, "I get teams together thats what i do" and then he quit. Well after hearing this all of us quit because none of wanted to be a leader that's why we joined a team and not create one. I wasted 5 or so minutes with this it really pissed me off

Ran into a level 49 Ill/Therm troller who didn't use any power but Stealth.

After about 10 minutes of trying to convince the person of using their powers I gave them a swift /kick.

He then sent me a tell saying "I'm not on the team, reinvite me" I told him he should leave atlas and explore the rest of paragon, and learn how to play the game in the meantime.

The guy then kept going on about how he's a two year vet and he promises to start using his powers. I chuckled on the inside and kept playing.

I was on a Hollows PUG with Mr. Bill once. In fairness, the team was doing really well and moving along at a good pace. However, after we all trained up, Mr. Bill made an unfortunate power choice, and we all found out about it at the next fight, and every fight thereafter.

We attacked the next group of enemies, only to find Mr. Bill lagging behind. Team chat in every encounter for the rest of the mission went something like this:

Mr. B: Nooo! Let me pull! I have Teleport Foe!
Mr. B: Nooo! I have Teleport Foe!
Mr. B: Nooooooo!!!

I can understand wanting to try out a shiny new power, but we'd been doing fine without using pulls. It may make me a bad person, but I took perverse enjoyment watching this mini-meltdown.

hahahahaha That's pretty funny. I think I would've played along a little and every three or four spawns, have said "hmmmmm. Looks tricky. Let Mr. B pull one" just to give him a warm fuzzy feeling.

I hate to say it but last night [u]I[u] was the bad team leader.

I had lackeyed a new found friend from 8 to 43 in grandville for company and to chat etc. The first few went fine. The last newspaper though, OMG. There were 4 Titan Mechs in one room, two were bosses, 2 gunslingers and several minions. No sooner did I say, 'Don't cast anything' that they aggroed and I don't mean small aggro. I mean everything hit us at once. My bots were dead I was munching respites, I was hauling [censored] to the door and before I could say 'Run' she had faceplanted. Eventually through a series of pull and run tactics, I slowly get the mnions and one of the mechs taken down. While fighting the gunslingers, one of the bosses aggro which pulled one of the other mechs, which again led to a bot wipe and my buddy had just awakened and ran down the elevator with me... This time the mech followed down the elevator and bam... bots down, she faceplanted and I'm going WTF!!!

Eventually we get everything killed but man she ended up dying 3 times and typically missions aren't this exasperating; all I can say is those Titan Mechs are nasty. Of course I apologized for getting her killed and she didn't seem to think much of it considering how much of a pita the mission was but I still felt bad. Typically if I die that much with someone I quit the team and never look back. She evidently is more patient than I am.

Not that debt's anything close to a big deal anymore.
