She's already asked several times to 'play the kickass high level content' so I wouldn't put it past her.

The first misisons I lackeyed her on were Black Scorpion Story missions and she loved those.

A while ago, I was running around Port Oakes on my fire/fire dominator. I think the character's level was like... oh... 11 or 12. Anyway, I suddenly get a team invite, and being one to generally enjoy teaming, I accept. The team leader is like... a level 17 corruptor, and the mission is one of the Radio missions featuring the Council. Having done this myself on my own a couple times, I was confident that I knew what to do and the leader's level would help create slightly more challenging enemies. Another player's invited to the team, a stalker, and also level 11 or 12.

We go in. Purples abound. Everyone dies. I couldn't touch any of them. The stalker couldn't touch any of them and the corruptor decides to lackey the stalker. That's great. I still couldn't touch 'em. And the leading corruptor is telling me "not to charge in." Um. No... it was pretty much the opposite of that, with the Council soldiers charging at us. I was trying to keep my distance and just hope to god that any of my powers hit. After enough deaths and a whole bar of debt, I quit the team.

Doesn't sound good I've tanked that thing on my Fire tank and my Regen scrapper (I like big oranges), you don't *have* to have minerals...but I don't think that Granite knew what they were in for.

Vet rewards and 50s are not necessarily signs of good players. However, they are better indications than nothing, particularly the former.

I've been on several bad teams...several of them consisting of friends... but one which stands out was 2 scrappers and 6 blasters, with a mix of SKs, vs. Tsoo. One scrapper liked to SS ahead, or to one side, and scout..and die. One blaster was sk'd and would wander off and hide or die. Alot of fights consisted of 5 mezzed blasters and 1 scrapper desperately trying to survive. We had a couple quit and I stayed out of morbid curiosity. I believe the last mission just hosed us.

I think the worst in recent memory was when I was playing a electric/ storm defender (keep this in mind, its important) with a couple of friends. Just before starting the mission we picked up another scrapper and tank just to add a bit more firepower and xp to the mission. We get into the mission and all is going well when we meet the robbers. Expecting good old Comatorium or one of the usual suspects, we're shocked to find that it's none other than Silver Mantis herself.
As you might expect, any plans we had went straight out the window at that point and it quite literally became a fight for our lives.
Here's the part where it went bad. During the fight the tank we picked up starts getting on my case for not healing him fast enough....

Lets back up a moment... remember my AT? .../storm Defender... back to the narrative...

At first I ignore his comments, being a bit too busy trying to figure out a way to finish this safeguard gracefully. He just keeps complaining. I commented that I was doing what I could and his reply was "Just admit you were slacking off on the healing..."

I'm a generally peaceful man but there are times....

Enough of the rant. Thanks for looking.

Just a little pet peeve, but it's Storm/Electric. Storm's a Defender primary. Tanker's an idiot if he needs constant healing from anyone to survive.

I just really hate when people advertise a team around a certain level, and then invite lots of people who are just way too low to fight enemies of that level, or invite people at/slightly above the advertised level and fight enemies that are -1 or more to that level.

I once ended up on a team with a level 46, and a bunch of 41s, fighting 47s and 48s...against CoT, so my chance to hit the +6s was even lower from ToHit debuffs. It was incredibly obnoxious.

I have a confession.

I was once a contributor to an all-star failure of a team.

I was new, recruited to the game by a friend. His character at the time was a Kinetics Defender whose most-used power was Repel. I was a Earth/Thermal Controller without the thermal shields, because I had been advised that they were terrible.

My friend convinced me to go into the Hollows, where we could get "levels fast." We get invited to some mission way on the other side of the zone, across a huge hole in the ground.

Now, my character doesn't have Flight yet. But wait, my friend and I can Hover! So he and I sloooowly Hovered from one side of the map to the other. This is before Hover got a speed buff, so I'm guessing this took around 8 minutes.

Anyway, we finally get in the mission. And of course, disaster. On the first spawn my friend charges in with Repel active and sends everything flying. I start spamming Cages, aggroing mobs all over the place. 6 out of 8 team members die. Someone rezzes my friend, then me.

What happens next is hard to describe. Without waiting for the other party members to revive, my friend takes off down the hall and bumps into a group of demons. They get repeled backwards right on top of the rest of us. Instinctively, out come my Cages, which again overshoots and aggroes the group next to us. The team wipes, and everyone quits.

You might be surprised to hear I'm still friends with this person.

My only experience with a horrible team mate was two-fold...

It started on a PUG team. Well, 50% of the team was PUG. All the others know each other, and teamed because of that, no strings attached, and we decided to have some troller fun. Then there he was... An all mighty tanker...

First thing he said was: I am the tanker. You must follow me.

Then, at the first entrance room he started bossing people around. He ran to one side, and said: Trollers stay here.
Run a few meters behind and said: Blaster stay here.

When he was describing where the two defenders needed to be, we rushed the room and cleared it faster than he could type.

He started raving that he was the tanker, and he needed to lead.

Next room. Same thing happened.

In the third room we let him do what he wanted... Resulting on him face-planting when trying to herd a big room back to us.

He ragequit.

We all commented that he was the worst person that played with us... and i am talking about all 7 other members, not only the 4 trollers (who where, by the way, Grav/Fire/Plant/Ice).

One day later... one of my friends decided to do an itf. We are on cimerora PUGing when a tanker joins the team, and the first thing he says, before even Hi, was:I am the Tanker. You must follow me.

Yes... same player, different tanker.

We started the itf to see if he would do the same. Yes... he was still all bossy.

A little kick and the itf proceeded with 7 members, and we had much fun.

Ah... and adding a little detail...

He was a over 30 months veteran... Not a newbie...

He is my only 1 star people running around in the game... I use a rating system on notes, just to know what i am facing based on previous experience:

5 stars - For some reason I like you. Be it as a person, be it as the playstyle. You can abuse me all you want and it wont matter, i will still like you.
4 stars - Very good team mate. Normally i explain on the notes why he has 4 stars.
3 stars - Average team member. We did played once or twice, but i wasnt impressed by player or toon. That may change.
2 stars - I dont like that much. One little thing aggravates me against him, but its probably described on the notes. Its rare someone staying at 2 stars, as i am very tolerant and normally raise people back to 3.
1 star - The Tanker. We must follow him.

Then there was one Skyraider respec trial where the team makeup looked like we should be able to do it. Except as we're clearing out the rooms to try to find the key to the reactor room, I finally realize that it's taking a LOT longer to defeat mobs than it really should. A quick scan of everyone's info revealed that the blaster had ALL of the travel powers. Fly, Superspeed, Teleport, and Superjump. That's eight power choices. After level six, he just concentrated on getting the travel powers. With only those beginning attacks, he wasn't putting out any damage. The team broke up when everyone realized that we weren't going to be able to do it. I didn't mind too much. I felt bad for others who were looking forward to it. I still got a lot of exp and influence, and it's not like I needed the respec. But it would've been nice to finish.

OH My I have seen this same sort of thing but thankfully I didn't team with this particular player. I was in Talos at the train station and had just broadcast I was LFT. ABout the same time a Defender about the same level as I was broadcast as well and out of curiosity I clicked on him to check his profile, powers, etc. He had apparently decided to make himself the ultimate support player. He was an EMP and had taken every single power available from his primary (absolutely nothing wrong there) but hadn't taken a single one of his secondary since level 1. Instead he had Hover and Fly, Recall Freind and Teleport, Hasten and Super Speed, along with Aid Others and Stimulant. Can't recall but he may have even had eother group fly or something else.

I couldn't help but chuckle at those power choices I always chose Fly for a travel power and with a lot of my support characters I will take Recall friend to assist slower player in getting to the mission and to TP fallen characters to safety so I can rez .. I suppose HASTEN would, for a short time, make him able to heal and buff faster but why anyone needed 3 of the 4 different travel modes was beyond me. He had basically created a character that couldn't defend itself if it tried and aside from Recall Freind and possibly Group Fly wasn't really adding anything to help the teams he was one.

If he was really going to create the ultimate SUPPORT toon... wouldn't the Leadership pool have been a much better choice?

Let's see.. Lose SS and Hasten since it's only good for a short time anyway. Then Drop Teleport ( I did notice his travel power of choice like mine was fly) and keep Recall friend. Judgement call but lose Stimulant as well since it only works on a single player anyway. He'd have picked up 4 power choices and could have then taken every single one of the Leadership pool powers aiding his team mates with added buffs.

This was also LONG before AE and just goes to prove anyone, at any time, can make some rather interesting (and goofy) power selections. Ah well it was HIS character and if he was happy with it so be it. Just glad I never had to team with him LOL

There've been n00bs doing dumb [censored] since launch. Everyone's ready to blame MA and AE missions for their n00bosity, but I've been here for five years and one of the things that I've noticed from threads like this is that they never change.

People not understanding their powers, people not understanding the game or the role their AT is supposed to fill. Everytime a thread like this pops up the stories and complaints are often very similar to the last time. Anyone blaming MA/AE for this is missing the point and is missing the reality of the situation and that is that MA/AE or not, there are n00bs, and quite frankly I've noticed neither a decreaes nor a significant uptick.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The most annoying teams I find myself on, always have someone who tries to take complete charge and does not allow anyone to do anything.

E.g even though we had 6 controllers and were doing missions fine, when the tanker (who had been shopping) eventually decided to showup on mission 4 of the TF, we all had to go into mindless drones.

"Don't attack until the tank goes in."
"I'm herding don't attack until I say"
"I told you not to attack, do you know what herding is?!"

This slowed down the whole team so much that it became boring. Any attempt to engage mobs before the tank meant the tank would deliberately engage a different group. Even though we didn't need her though.

I just found the whole thing so annoying, another controller was verbally abused for using force bubble to push mobs into a pack "Let the tank taunt!" they cried.

Finally, the "herding" was done one group at a time. Is that even herding or just wasting time?

Needless to say I regretted joining. However this is something that strikes me with girl gamers, they form an opinion and a way of doing something and no matter what you say they will never listen.

True.

I think my point is that I'm trying to illustrate that MA/AE farming and PL is not the devil that people are claiming it to be, nor is it the source of crappy play and bad behaviour despite the spin that some are trying to give it. It's merely another mechanism to accomplish somethign that many, many veteran players who really, actually know what they're doing can use to get by some of the more plodding, grinding and boring parts of character development (read; pre-20).

The point is that the AE is not to blame for n00bs, as there've been n00bs for as long as I can remember.

Oh I have got to add this one since it just happened yesterday. I am currently picking up a few missied TFs with my 50 level Ill/Emp Troller and saw a post for a Sister Psyche (one of the few I still needed for TF Commander).

I sent a tell and joined the team, second member right below the leader, and eventually we had five all level 50s and none with a huge amount of AE badges and nothing else. I couldn't help thinking.. this is going to go VERY well even though I am the only support character teamed with 4 scrappers.

Well we get to mission one and things are a little shaky. The team leader constantly keeps running ahead and leaving us to fight the mobs without her. The four of us are doing a good job clearing but I keep seeing her health bar dropping to yellow or even red.. she must have gone through a ton of inspirations to survive.

Okay Sister P has a ton of stealthable missions and I have both Superior INV and Recall Friend so as we get into those I ask. Should I stealth? I figure no one is desperate for XP here since we aren't getting any anyway and the answer was "SURE go ahead". I head off and notice on my mini map that our illustrious leader is once again FOLLOWING me and getting pounded in the process. After mission two she dc'd and I became leader. She returned of course and we continued .. mission after mission it was exactly the same. I'd start to stealth and she's be off somewhere trying to, and succeeding a few times, to get herself killed. The absolute worst was a "Defeat the base leader" mission toward the end. I located the Boss and started TPing team members when she comes charging into the room with around 2-3 mobs following her. Between my heals and everyone else's efforts we somehow managed to avoid a team wipe there.

Now if this had been MY team originally I'd have kicked that character LONG before that but the team was her idea and I hated the idea of kicking the person who'd started the thing so I kept her on board.

FINALLY we got to the last mission and things get a little clearer... Now she is counting down Freakshow Tanks as they die. She is after the Freedom Phalanx Badge and all she has left are TANKS. IF she had mentioned that to begin with we could have stealthed less, defeated more, and she'd have earned the badge without having to act like a complete NUT JOB. Well we defeated the AV, rescued the hostages, and shut off the last Sonic disrupter.. TGFcomplete. I think she came up short on the tanks she needed and dropped as soon as we stepped outside to go hunt more in Brickstown. She never said thanks to anyone and generally made the TF tougher for all of us since she was never around to help us with any mobs. She's on my Global Ignore list now.

Oh I did check her badges.. 52 month vet with a ton of badges but a grand total of ONE other TF and during the course of our mini ordeal she revealed she's done that one (Synapse so she could get her gearsmasher badge) earlier the same day. To me Vet Badges usually spell decent player but.. obviously NOT always LOL

Me again. I have another one.

I PUG a lot. I think working with a variety of players adds to the game experience. I'm generally pretty tolerant of other players and try not to take things too seriously. I don't mind teaming with players who aren't very good; bullies are something else altogether tho. Case in point:

One day I was playing as a level 10-or-so Controller and joined a radio group in Kings Row. On this particular afternoon, there was a character on the Broadcast channel who had decided to take on the world. Basically from 12:00 to around 4:00 the character argued over the public channel that "heals are totally useless" and "debuffs are always better than heals." Whatever the merits of his argument, what was intriguing was that as our radio group zoned in and out of missions this character always had something to announce over Broadcast as we were running to the next mission, like he was standing in the zone yelling back and forth at people for hours and hours.

After a few hours of teaming, my group dissolved and I started looking around for a new one. I quickly got an invite to a team of 5 or so, including an Empathy Defender. As the group was about to push off, horror of horrors, the player who had been shouting on Broadcast got an invite to the team. I decided to hold my tongue and give the player a chance.

It turned out the new team member was a Trick Arrow Defender. The first thing he announced was that "if we asked him for a heal, he would shoot us" or some such. Whatever. We all get started with the mission.

We got to the first spawn. Trick Arrow announces that no one can proceed until he shoots them with Flash Arrow. He shot them, and while the rest of us get started on the fight, he stands there not moving for a little while. It becomes clear a few seconds later that he's taken a break to examine the Empathy Defender's power choices.

As we stand around waiting for him to Flash Arrow the next group, Trick Arrow announces in team chat: "Empathy you are useless you should go reroll." Empathy ignores him. Someone reminded Trick Arrow to do his Flash thing and we move on.

In the next batch, things are a little bit of a struggle. Trick Arrow announces "I can't believe how much extra weight I have to pull with this Empath in the group. If he had actual debuffs, like me, we would be making it through this mission." Someone said they were glad to have a healer in the group. Trick Arrow says "well no wonder this group is so lame."

After about ten minutes of this, with Trick Arrow shooting Flash Arrow at mobs and then mostly standing around yelling at the Empath and anyone who came to his defense, we encounter a group of mobs that can mezz. A bunch of us die. As we're reviving, Trick Arrow says: "If the Empath had Clear Mind instead of heals we all would have lived. Buffs > heals."

At this point the team leader said "Trick Arrow you have one more chance. Shut it or leave the group." Trick Arrow is quiet for the next spawn or two. Then:

"Empathy, you suck so bad. If you had a blast instead of a heal we'd be clearing these mobs a lot faster."

/kick. And thank god.

We moved one mob at a time and i was always saying why not just attack the entire mob right away or herd two or three mobs. No one listened to me but i got a tell from a fellow team mate who agreed and we both went and attacked the mob before they could herd. Did it piss them off? Yep. Did it go faster? Yep. I don't get why tanks always want to herd and things like that. I guess i see the rule as a tank more like a brute and that's just to take the hits, although i think brutes only do that just to hit more but same thing. So tanks please for heaven sake stop herding only ONE mob and actually do something. All this is my opinion so you guys don't need to agree are disagree

Okay I play tankers and herd . I also play with really GOOD herding tankers. Bringing one mob back for the team to dispatch is NOT herding that's pulling and even a Blaster or just about any AT with 1 long range attack can accomplish that.

HERDING is gathering several mobs together and packing them, nicely, in one spot (with all of them pounding on the tank) while eveyone else AoEs them to death. A Tanker can herd up to 17 minions/lieutenants, etc before he caps out.

Now on Invincible where everything is purple including the minions a Tanker pulling one large mob away from another to prevent a team wipe is a good thing. Pulling a FEW minions to one spot over and over is WASTING TIME. LOL Unfortunately like every other AT there are tanks out there that don't have a clue HOW to actually tank.
