  1. Maybe, must maybe, Champions Online will be it. For me, the first step is the creator. And I'm not entirely unhappy with my recreation of "The Knave of Trumps" in the CO-verse.

    Blade and Soul

About two dozen of my "main" alts have origins in Asian Martial Arts Fantasy. They may have just found a new home in Blade and Soul.
  3. Well, it appears that the time has come for the Galvonic Man to gear up and face the brass hordes of the Nemesis Army once more.

I'll add my support to the strategy. It makes sense to me and I've no issues with it. In fact, making the costumes available for sale benefits the most people. The weapons would affect only those characters with the requisite powersets.

I think it's a good compromise. Especially in light of the Vanguard Pack, now that was a boon for me since I find farming Vanguard merits to be much more tiresome than the ITF.
  5. Really nice work! I love the clean lines, bright colors and sense of motion. Very dynamic.

Also, I love being able to identify the costume pieces used on the characters.

Where you see Asian-oriented, I see holiday-oriented. It just happens to be an Asian holiday. And, of course, my point was never that the Imperial Dynasty was not Asian-oriented, but only that I disputed your claim that NCSoft's Korean-ownership is the reason for the creation of this set.

I see no mountain here, only contesting your intimation that ethnicity was a factor, whereas another holiday-based costume set would have been a simple enough reason.

It might not need it, but it would have strengthened your weak position.

My larger point, which I would have thought would be clear to someone with your keen insight, is that if your arbitrary Asian rationale had any merit, then there would be a much greater Asian influence in the game. It's not like NCSoft hasn't always been Korean-owned.

Yet, despite the Robes (which are clearly a remnant of the abandoned "City of Hero" effort) and Martial Arts (which was a "Natural" origins based pack), I see little of what might be considered an obvious Asian influence.

Today, as of January 2012, the Devs probably have several costumes sets on the drawing board. Assuming they had a meeting to prioritize them it's very easy to see that Imperial Dynasty might have bumped any of the others currently being worked on -right- now for the arbitrary Asian reason alone. Besides it's obvious they were trying to line it up with Chinese New Year regardless.
And you base all this on concept art being revealed. We don't even have a release date, other than Soon (TM) on Beta. Yet, you are able to divine priorities from the preview alone.

As for lining it up with Chinese New Year, Zwii has already said it would not be out in time or the holiday. But, being inspired by the holiday is a completely different than explanation than your arbitrary Asian reason. Unless you are also claiming that the Halloween Pack came about due to a classic movie monster being a major shareholder in NCSoft.

All you've done is trigger the "More armor pieces again? I want more super hero stuff!" complaint.

If that were the case, I would have expected the Imperial Dynasty to have come out a long time ago, certainly before Gunslinger, Halloween, Steampunk, Valkyrie, IDF, etc. etc.

Your simple explanation seems more knee-jerk than reality-based.

I certainly don't feel the need to defend my comic book credentials, but I get your point. However, in that laundry list of more "comic book like" genres, the majority are "way out there", hence my response.

Frankly, I don't see how what I bolded above is any more "comic book" than the Imperial Dynasty costume set. To be fair, I'm not even sure what "comic book" means whenever this argument is brought up against certain costume sets.

There is a long, storied and varied tradition of Chinese martial arts comic books, in which the Imperial Dynasty sets would fit perfectly. Are these not part of your definition of comic books?

I can see why people use "comic books" rather than "superheroes" because they don't want to limit their argument to just spandex tights. However, it is for that very reason that more "comic book" like is ultimately meaningless, since it encompasses just about any theme or origin you want for your character.

I'm sorry, I can't help but feel that the whole "more comic book like" argument is little more than "I don't care for this particular genre, I like these others better". That's perfectly valid and I've shared that feeling myself, but it's not the same as claiming that the costume in question is not very comic book like.

Speaking for myself, I've got two dozen alts based on the Chinese Zodiac. The Imperial Dynasty set is what I've been waiting for!

  13. The idea would be that the helmet is sentient and clamps down on its victims taking over their body. Of course, it prefers super powered victims. I think this might work best with the Crab Spider backpack and maybe an actual brain w/eyes, to give the idea that the helmet can scuttle along on its own hunting for victims.

Also, I tried using the A.C.C.A.H.U.D. Combat Aura, hoping that it would appear *inside* the Think Tank and maybe create some kind of Spectral Smile character or something.

It didn't quite work out and I couldn't get it to look the way I wanted to at all. However, I'm not convinced that it can't be used for something else. I just don't know what.

    That's all I got.
  14. What a great concept! I'm not sure if there are any "errors", as everything seems to be logically consistent. The one question I had was what kind of look do you have in mind for F Squad?

I read "super soldiers" and I think hardcore military, which seems to be what you have going. However, it seems that we start off the story in a utopia, which seems to be the type of world that would not need a hardcore military.

Sure, I get that the EDF and the F Squad are the defensive arm of this utopian Earth, but the character histories seem more like a dystopian military.

I'm not explaining myself right, basically I get a Colonial Space Marines feel rather than a Starfleet feel and both are ostensibly military organizations, with the latter in a "utopian" setting.

A lot of this will be mitigated by the look you choose for your guys.

Again, a great concept and very entertaining. Thanks for sharing!
  15. I just recently read a book in which the superheroes served mostly as emergency response-type teams. There wasn't much call for crime fighting, as the police could handle that, just as they always did.

But, the ability to respond quickly to disasters and use their powers to rescue people within minutes was something that non-powered first responders couldn't do.

Made sense to me and probably the kind of team I'd put together. I know this doesn't answer the question in the OP, sorry about that.

Yeah, I wonder if this has anything to do with the requirement to manually upgrade to VIP Account in Beta.
  17. Given that I'm horribly afflicted with altitis, as evidenced by my 150 or so characters (most of whom are under level 10), I wouldn't pick any of them.

I'd probably just end up rotating those two slots over and over again, trying out different ideas and themes. Only this time, I'd have to think in terms of character duos, rather than teams of 6 or 12.
  18. Rangle, thanks for running a great TF. I had a blast as Mr JJ Jingles, the baddies got a serious thrashing.

Lookin' forward to doin' it again!

    Bronies

While not a full-fledged "Brony", I do have an image of one my main CoH characters, Kassai, done up as a pony.

  20. Here is the Royal Hunter for the Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Grinn

And his quarry, the elusive Knave of Trumps...

    ...in her suit of Diamonds

    ...in her suit of Hearts

...and in her suit of Spades
  21. Celeres - Kinetic Melee/Electric Armor: The idea here is that he builds up kinetic energies with his super speed, generating both attacks and his armor

Argonaut Lambda - Kinetics/Dark Blast: He's granted mastery of kinetics by Hermes, allowing him super speed as well as control over kinetic energy. His dark blast powers are a gift from Hades.
  22. Eldarion also uses the Cone helmet, but since he's Eldar, it's supposed to look like that.

Here's another helmet from a recently rolled character of mine, Chell-OS
