Something I miss about the olden days...
I miss the Angry_Citizen and Frostweaver /nin vs /EA arguments on the stalker forums, even though it probably hasn't been that long.
I'm more of a lurker who pokes his head in every now and then, though, or drops advice on the corr forums. Don't mind me

One thing I DO miss, however, is that there used to be a time when the rules were applied with thought behind them, not just because the forum rules says so. Sometimes we were allowed to push and bend the rules if it was obvious it was in good spirits and helpful to fostering productive discussion, whereas other times trolls and idiots had their threads pulled for even passing violations of minor rules because they were making a mess of things. In fact, I used to tell people that they shouldn't worry about accidentally infringing on the rules as long as their heart is in the right place and they don't make a giant huge mess of things. Whether that was due to the generally lower severity of moderation or due to personal style (and it's not just Cuppa, as Lighthouse was pretty good about these things, too) I cannot say, but this no longer seems to be the case.

I agree very strongly, except about Lighthouse.
I miss the days when the rules weren't used as a cudgel.

Of course not. Then you wouldn't know when they announce that the cookies are out on the table.

Yes... I'm aware. Not that it would have mattered.
I've been around the block, and Lighthouse was worse at his job than many of the volunteer moderators that other websites have. I think the only one that was worse in terms of ego, myopia and pride was probably Sidnacious over at the CTRL-ALT-DEL forums, and the only reason I say that is because Sidnacious was very clearly, literally, without hyperbole, an idiot, as in "Startlingly unintelligent".

GOD yes. I sent him one too many "you are an idiot who is bad at his job because" messages and he stopped reading anything I sent him after that. Even if it was something he was supposed to take care of, he'd never read it if it came from me.
Not that I blame him, but if he'd listened to me in the first place, it wouldn't have gotten there.
I miss being able to start a flame war on the Victory forums just by using the word "goon." Once Hamidon raids ended (which was basically the second we had another way to get HO's), all the drama died.
The quote in my sig came from some creepy dude with a ton of binds about "gently caressing" you every time he healed you. I was a bad person for occasionally /e boomboxing on "Goon Rock" because I was useless as a melee character until the very end of the raid.
Griefing was so easy back then. All I had to do was show up in "public" and half the people there would act like I'd skinned their kitten or something.
Post deleted 'cause I'm dumb.
And people look like other people to me. :P
I miss being able to post intellectually stimulating threads in forums with out them being deleted because someone got butt hurt and reported it as trolling.

None of them are of the pic Torak used for his avatar, but that's most definately the guy in question.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm afraid I have to disagree. I remember his avatar quite vividly, and I cannot say that this guy is the one in Torak's avatar at all. He has the beard, yes, though not really the hair, however his face is completely different from what I remember. I could be wrong, of course, but I'm more sure about this than I am when I state things as facts most of the time.

Lighthouse also had the burden of enforcing rules on a forum that wasn't used to respecting them. That's why Friggin Tazer got banned almost immediately after Lighthouse came on board. He wasn't ALL bad, but his violent disregard for getting moderated, and subsequently his sock puppet account, simply crossed the line. He wasn't alone. Many people were outraged that their threads were locked and deleted all of a sudden. I liked Cuppa as much as anybody, but the fact remains that a thread lock or deletion under her keep were exceedingly rare, almost to the point of being an absolute last resort. I can't say it had a very positive effect on the community. I mean sure, people LOVED her, but the place was a lot less friendly from person to person. Not that it's more friendly now, but at least nasty people get modded pretty fast. That's one thing I like about Mod8 - he takes his job seriously and hits these threads hard and fast.
Personally, I was a fan of SuperMod, as well. I never understood why people were so pissed off about him. I wish they'd kept him around longer, I liked his post-lock quips and his not showing up on the Community Digest was a good idea. A thread is usually locked for a reason. Bringing more attention to it runs counter to that. Then again, after Ex Libris filled up the entirety of the the Community Digest with nothing but posts on the various "councils" and uninteresting deep community bonding nonsense, I simply stopped reading that entirely. Haven't, in fact, read it for years. Plus, I'm significantly more disappointed in how she handled the /jranger and Suggestions thing. We asked for more moderation IN TIME to prevent problems from spiralling out of control. Instead, we got bans, deleted threads and a forum move so they don't HAVE to moderate as much. Suggestions is now no more friendly than it ever was, because more moderation didn't happen. Swing and miss.
By far the most, however, I miss the old people because they were cool to talk to and discuss things with, even if we disagreed radially. I don't want to insult anybody, but the community doesn't seem nearly as friendly these days, though it's getting there. I guess I just have to hope people will calm down a bit.

Lighthouse was as arbitrary as Cuppa was, don't be mistaken. Moreover, he got personal with the posters, to the point where if he decided that he didn't like someone he'd hunt them down and mod/delete/lock anything those people had to say... trust me.
Tazer should have been banned LONG before Lighthouse got here, but he got to stay 'cause Cuppajo favoured him. So, whereas Cuppa was like a doting, forgiving matriarch, Lighthouse was like a tyrant. I understand he had some troubles, though, and that goes a long way to explaining some of his delusions and erratic behaviour. It doesn't excuse it, though. I don't bear him any ill-will and I hope he's doing okay.

I still have a collection of mod warnings from Lighthouse. I don't begrudge him though.
All the community mods are just trying to do their job.
I miss when the Suggestions Forum was not in the fun n games section...
One thing I haven't seen lately that I enjoy are P_P's posts about not enough loot or content or how drops are so easy to get when she plays like 35 hours a day.

Not recently. I took a break back in... hrm... '06 maybe? '07? Something like that. Otherwise, nope. Sometimes though, I stop posting what the voices tell me to post, but don't tell them. Shhh.
I remember when LH quit posting, and I just had to know why and sent out PMs to that effect. The answer kinda bored me, no offense. I just thought it would be juicier for some reason. Don't really remember why...

Weirdly, DrZeus is the poster I miss the most. No matter how radical, brilliant, or downright stupid some of his ideas were (and not a few were all three), he was always, always thought-provoking.
I also miss your old avatar, LHF! I remember you as this nasty, spiteful crank always raving about Blasters or something, then one day your avatar changed ... and somewhere along the way I noticed that you had a lot more sense and wit now than you did back in the day.
I'm still trying to figure out whether it's coincidence, or if I've simply been brainwashed by the Awesome Face. It's tough, because how would I know?
I miss ThornKiller and Havoc. Great posters and they always had something constructive to add to a discussion. Oh and my favourite poster was Pilcrow and that awesome avatar of his. It was of Dick Van [censored] dancing with the penguins from Mary Poppins but his head was replaced with Jesus. He had that avatar for like 2-3 years before it was mysteriously deemed inappropriate and they forced him to take it down.
