The Shadowbane example is encouraging, but I'm not sure that Hellgate may be as applicable. Hellgate was a massive failure, which may have, ironically, helped its further development. COH is a moderate success, which may be more of a hindrance than a help when it comes to discussing further development. A new company may see COH as untouchable because there are parts of it that work pretty well, as it is easier to take something that is garbage and merely take its IP to do with as you see fit.

Not to be a complete Doom 'n gloom, but asides from some MMOs being emulated, are there ANY relevant examples of a game such as this one being salvaged once its parent company decides to shut it down?

See, this is exactly my concern. Why not just make it "City of Vigilantes/Rogues" then?
  8. I for one, am looking forward to Going Rogue. However, a few caveats do come to mind when I consider the ramifications of being able to side switch.

    1. I think that we might see a shift in the current AT structure when everyone has access to everything. I think that some ATs may fall a bit by the wayside. I suspect that Masterminds may get a nerf or two before all is said and done as well.

    2. Will there be any reason to play as a Villain or Hero after Going Rogue? Becoming a Vigilante or Rogue will give a character access to both sides of the game. Doesn't seem like there's much incentive to play as strictly one faction or the other.

Any thoughts on the problems/benefits/fixes needed to make side switching fair for everyone?
  9. Oh goodie, an internet controversey! I am attracted like moth to flame!
  10. Well, not to brag, but I've been around since the Mezoic.

    So..................yeah.
  11. Good afternoon Peasants.

The first Rookery war was when COUNT (Blast you confounded peasants!) Logan Obliterated everything in existence in a mass forum conflict full of two-page spreads, dramatic death scenes, massive explosions, and one pillow fight.

Unfortunately, someone hit the Universe Reset button, retconning this crowning achievement of my most esteemed career.
  13. Good afternoon peasants.

    Prepare for your imminent demise...

I've been trying to go to war for a year! Vive Le Revolucion
  15. I personally use the canon of CoH like seasonings. A little salt here, a little pepper there. When it suits me, I use. My character exists in the Coh universe which gives a framework to RP, but anyone who makes a big deal about a canon like CoH is silly.

  16. Count Logan vonDrake. The genius ruler of Tyranabillus whose snobbery is only outdone by his outrageously confusing lexicon. An inventor and prodigy in countless technological fields, his wit and wiles are a cross dimensional menace.

Always the first to claim that he has diplomatic immunity, the Count shields himself behind his schemes and technology, possessing no metapowers (at least none that have been shown so far).

C'mon, draw me. You know you want to....peasant.
  17. Bah I say, you driveling peasants. I cannot stand your Christmas cheer. I prefer this instead.

  18. Bah I leave you peasants alone for three months and this is the drivel you get into...happy sunny mornings? I'll have to rectify this postehaste.

How's that for a happy sunny morning? Bah!

  20. I have fifty million, I must be rich...

Double me on that, I wont complain. Heck quadruple me, please.
