Do I believe any of them have played the game from 1-50 as a normal player without giving in to the urge to use the power at their disposal? Nope. It gets too tedious once you get into the 30s.

[/ QUOTE ]

Speak for yourself. I got one character to level 50 THREE TIMES and it wasn't one bit tedious. That's right, same powerset combo and even costume, for 150 levels. And NO powerleveling or farming.

Again, speak for yourself rather than making blanket statements as if they were "facts".

I also recommend you all try playing a couple of characters from 1-50 without any dev tricks, just as a normal player, to see how grindy things are. Then go on a couple of farm missions with some friends and see how fun the leveling can be in comparison.

[/ QUOTE ]

I level all my characters 'without any dev tricks'. I have only four 50's to show for it, but those 50s mean far more to me than any 50 I could have gotten sitting in a farm with my thumb up my [censored]. If you honestly think the game is grindy, by all means give Lineage II a try. CoH's XP curve makes Lineage II's look like a sheer cliff.

[/ QUOTE ]

One last time...the whole OP was directed AT THE DEVS. That includes the PS. Since when can players invoke dev tricks? And by dev tricks I was referring to auto-leveling, extra powers, free influence, etc. All the stuff they do to test random things but fails to give an accurate portrayal of the actual gameplay.

I want the devs now to buff up reading comprehension in the next patch.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're assuming that none of the developers also play the game to have fun, or that they almost exclusively rely on 'dev tricks' to break their own game.

Are you aware of what assumption makes you...?

Merely curious.

EDIT: And if one flat-out told you he did play the game 'honest', would you even believe them?

Tedious for you maybe. Took me almost 2 years for my first 50, too many alts and a lot of debt.

Tedious for me is trying explainining to someone on a Numina TF where Creys Folly is.
"Hmmm lvl 42 and no vet badges...." Probably no correlation there huh?

What's your basis for believing that "Dev Tricks" is the only way the devs play the game?

This game is marketed and advertised as a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

That, in itself, should be 'nuff said, but allow me to expand on the thought. Do people in Call of Duty complain about how the devs are too shooter-friendly? Does anyone call up Bud Selig and complain that baseball is too sports-friendly? Have you ever heard of someone complaining at a Texas Hold'em tournament that the game is way too card-friendly?

Sorry, I left WoW to play CoX exclusively, because WoW is a nightmare when it comes to grinding. You have to walk through fire to earn the ability to move 30% faster at level 30 (Nevermind epic mounts!),

Your example would be more accurate by asking what if a baseball team manager focused all on pitching rather than hitting? Or a card player focused solely on bluffing rather than reading the cards. Both things are parts of the game. But if you give all the attention to one, the game stops being fun.

You aren't the first to herald the RP in MMORPG. Yet you as well are ignoring the G part of it. Maybe with a little more G we would get some more M, as in Massive.

But you're still wrong.

If you want to farm a normal mission, go do it. Don't whine about role-players (lol) being the focus of an all action game. Because this game IS all action. The only RP aspect has been provided BY the players, not the devs.

And yes, of course the devs have played without their 'dev tricks' Why would you assume otherwise?

Man, I wish I'd gotten up earlier when my cat was throwing up, so I could have joined this discussion at the begining. I need some activity today...

number of pvp zones - 4(?)
number of pve zones - a lot
number of RP task forces - 0
number of pve task forces - a lot
xp reward for rp - none
ticket reward for rp - none
merit reward for rp - none
badges for rp - none

[/ QUOTE ]I've RPed almost all the PvE options. Also if you RP in a PvP zone long enough you'll end up with a badge. Same for walking around town RPing as you go to exploration badges. In fact I'd say you could RP the whole damn list without any issue. Just last night a small group of us RPed that giant monster in Dark Astoria for the badgey.

I think you are doing it wrong.

there's a difference between glazing over the safety bit in an owner's manual and sticking your tongue into woodchipper after being told it will do terrible things to your face

i'm of the opinion that this falls into the former category since every warning was either out of the way or accompanied by other text that no one really wanted to read

Nothing they have done to the ticket system in AE has changed the fact that you can acquire them more easily than you ever could playing alone with merits.

"No one really wanted to read".... That's patently false, I read them - am I no one? Whenever the eula changes, I re-read it. To do otherwise is just stupid. Ignorance of the rules is not protection from the consequences of breaking them. Period.

I've played 12 characters to 50, with four more on approach (40+) and dozens more to come. None of them were PLed or used farms to level in any way.

That's how grindy things aren't in this game. The leveling curve is laughably short.

You, sir, are simply incorrect. I'll point out that nowhere is this game marketed or advertised as a farming game, a power-leveling game, a collect-stuff game, or anything else.

Here, read it yourself.

That's what I think a lot of people are missing, including the OP. This is a role-playing game. If you're not a role-player, that's all fine and good, but you need to realize that you are on our turf, not vice versa. If the game isn't fulfilling your need to level up, collect stuff, or whatever it is that you've set as your goal, it is your shortcoming, not the game's or the developer's.

That other stuff is just gravy to make the game a bit more fun and interesting to some people (yes, including us), but it's not what the game is about. And if it gets to the point where people abuse it to the point where it interferes with the game's core purpose, it can--and as recently demonstrated--will be taken away.

It's just as if you go play Call of Duty and are disappointed that people just don't care that much about developing their characters there. If you want to have a rich and engaging backstory for your soldier, fine, but it's pretty silly to be surprised when other people play a shooter game as, well, a shooter.

See, I read that first "RPed" as a word that was just missing a letter (the letter 'a', for those who are curious), and from then on in your post, replaced every instance of "RP" with that word. Made your post a lot more chuckle worthy. Then I felt bad for the victims.
