I teamed with a Warshade tonight, who formed a team around level 11-13 at the AE building in Atlas and then asked, "How do I get a mission?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe they hadn't done AE yet.

Translation: You have to have a level 50 to be able to make a Warshade. This person apparently got all the way to level 50 and THEN got a Warshade up to level 11, all without ever learning how to get a "normal" mission.
Kinda sad, honestly...

Did you get my messages?
I will be 50 before I ever do an AE so granted I still have the cantact for AE but maybe they hadn't remembered who the contact was.

You've got e-mail.
Further translation: They were sitting outside the AE asking how to get a "normal" mission. You can infer from that that they had never played OUTSIDE the AE building before. They had only ever run AE missions. They were asking how you get a "normal" mission from a "normal" contact because they'd never played the "real" game before.
Also, I like "lasers" and "quotation marks".

Yeah, we should make fun of them, throw stones, and then kick them from the team so they stop playing CoH!!!!!1111ONE!
Or just shake our heads and walk the other way.

People need to also keep in mind that maybe the person you're talking to hasn't actually played the faction before. For example, my man account is on the 39 month bade(I think), but I have no idea who to talk to redside in order to respec. I play 99% hero side.
So with my vet badges asking a question like that would you assume I bought my account?

Aside from what PK and Forbin said...
They aren't going to leave COH because they get kicked from a team. They are going to leave COH because the mindset that requires them to jet to 50 and do nothing but farming generally means they've got nothing else to do and get bored much more quickly than the typical COH player.
Remember that they are NOT typical COH players. Some may be older players who've come back, but only wanted a little taste - they're going to come and go. Some are people who got a trial from somewhere, have played other MMOs and have the "other mmo mindset" and don't know better, get frustrated by the game itself 'failing' to meet their standards, and leave to head back to those "other" games. And some appear to be hyperactive teenagers with money to burn, who will go through *any* game at a rocket pace because *that's what they do*.
In no way are most of those people *typical* of COH players.

No, because it's also assumed, Munki, that you would be able to form your question in a reasonably intelligent manner.
Or, far more likely, you'd *come here* and find out on the Wiki before asking at all.

[/ QUOTE ] I would go to Paragonwiki before to find out info like I mentioned before asking a random person or broadcasting, but not everybody will. Besides, wiki's can be wrong. For example, while trying to find Ice Mistral last night I used paragonwiki. The coordinate numbers were correct, except the last number out of the three was -2210 instead of 2210(btw since I have no experience editing wikis I didn't touch it, so somebody should check it out).
I had to ask somebody to finally find her. The person could have assumed I was being stupid and been a dick, but he just answered my question. To me that is a much better response than assuming I should know it or should have found the asnwer from Paragonwiki(since it was wrong) than being a dick because I have a bunch of vet badges.
I use the star system on players, I have it so I can see the stars above their head.
1 star total wastes of humanity & then detailed info on why I did it, lets me know.
2 Stars lets me know this is a person I felt was good in a team, I don't know em, but I would team with them & again I leave a note for me to know why I did it.
3 Stars are for SGmates, Vent Crew, & or Folks I talk to regular like & we get along.
4 Stars are said above, but now we know one another fairly well, first name basis(even though we use our nicknames) & we enjoy being around each other for teaming & BS'ing
5 Stars are reserved for R.L. friends or folks I've known for sometime online or in game, we know each other very well, personal stories, perhaps phone numbers, etc... I consider a true friend(Only 3 of those have that, 1 is a RL friend who retired from COH)
As for Nubz in the game, since AE, yes their is quit a bit more, yay on newbs in the game, but boo on n00bz in the game, I hate PL'd retards. I have zero time for them, I use to be willing to take time & teach folks, I actually enjoyed that. Not anymore, not since AE & influx of total rejects, I've seen more 1 star folks running around these days.
I even go out of my way & will invite a 1 star back in team(Unless the note is full of spiteful hate & very detailed, like going out way to F up a TF/SF or something). To get em a second chance, so far none have moved up to 2 stars, if I could make em have negative star's I would.

[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. I have never assumed anyone bought their account from another player or an RMT site.
It doesn't seem odd to me that a person might not know where the respec contacts are. I rarely use respecs myself.
However I do expect a level 50 character or a level 10 WS to know how to take an enhancement from their enhancement tray and put it into the power they want to slot.
I also expect them to know how to enter a mission, how to get missions from contacts, and how to attack an enemy.
If it makes me a jerk to expect a level 50 to know the basics that are taught in the outbreak/prison break tutorials, then I'm a jerk.
99% of the questions I've been asked don't bother me and I'll even offer additional information if I think it'll help them out.
Edit: I usually respond to questions I see asked in broadcast or the help channel without ever knowing the level or vet status of the person asking the question.

And once more for the record:
We are not 'bashing newbies'.
We are *bashing NOOBS*. there is a DIFFERENCE. It's been stated several times before now, I suggest you actually read those posts about the clear and obvious differences between a new player and a noob.

Bashing *anyone* is never okay. And that was *my* point.
Have a good one.

But you called us hypocrites and cast aspersions on our motivation for forming teams.
The lesson for you here to is not to engage in a thread loaded for bear. You seem reasonable, but your initial post stirred Zekiran, and she's never been one that even I would mess with unless I really had my [censored] together. Bad move...
Aside from that, your point is taken, but the tone you've taken isn't likely to garner any friends.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, please.
I never fail to be amused at attempts to make one or the other forum-member look like a bad-a** who must be bowed to, scraped to and generally propitiated with all due respect/fear, lest said member Get All Medieval upon one.
This is an online forum, and me.... I don't bow to anyone. Maybe you do, which is your choice & have at it. But not everyone is going to do that. Anyone with an ego that needs propitiation on an Online forum is a pretty sad case, to tell the truth. I'm not here to salve anyone's ego.
As was previously mentioned, friends like some people here, I don't need. I would actually question myself were I to gain their [worthless, because we're all online] approval.
I see that mileage varies on that point, but c'est la forums.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not about bowing, BI, and if you think it is then you need to have your head re-screwed on.
It's about knowing the regulars and knowing how they argue, that's all. Nobody likes losing an argument, and certain posters are particularily fearsome debaters. It's about respecting their ability to think rationally and critically and arrive at the logical conclusion of an idea. You can only watch debate someone and watch them for so long before you can arrive at a general idea of what to expect from them. In short, there are some posters that, after becoming familiar enough with them, one is more inclined to be sympathetic to their position simply because they so regularily hold the most rational and reasonable one.
If you want to criticise me, there's plenty to pick from, but "bowing" to acquaintances online is not one of them. There's a difference between paying someone a compliment, even if it was in sort of secondary, and cow-towing.

Most noobies who would be treated like that wouldn't have known Ice Mistral's name, much less which zone she was in. By even including that in your broadcast, you would have shown atleast some intelligence and willingness to learn.
As far as Ice Mistral is concerned, I know who she is (Scirocco's Underling) and I've fought her in the Statesman's Task Force, and a Safeguard Mission or 2, but have never encountered her redside. (Highest Villain is 42) Granted I could look it up on ParagonWiki if needed but I haven't had the opportunity to run her Strike Force yet.
[ QUOTE ]
Used to be that if someone was a level 50, you could count on a certain level of skill and teamwork, because they had worked hard through all the zones
[/ QUOTE ]
When was this mystical time? I've got my 60 month badge and I don't ever recall this era of the game.
Achieving level 50 is merely a product of time, not skill. If you play the game enough, no matter how bad you are at it, you will eventually hit 50.
I still fondly recall the players with their brand new Peacebringers and Warshades proudly declaring, "I have three level 50s! I know what I'm doing!" right before faceplanting. Repeatedly. Then calling the entire team a "bunch of noobs" and quitting.
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

No. Only if you declare you are the GREATEST PLAYER EVAR right before faceplanting over and over and over and over again on the same group of MOBs.

But what else am I going to use that whole tray of Awakens for?
being level 50 was never an indicator of any type of skill
this game is absurdly easy to play and level in.
before we had ma farms, we had TV farms (villain side). before that we had newspaper farms. before that there was herding and stacking hundreds of minions at a time.
there were level 50 tanks at launch who took only two powers from their tank primary and every attack in their secondaries and the power pools.
this...is not new.
That doesn't make them better players. It just means there are more people to kick off teams and 1-star in notes. Yes, they've been around.
Most of those have left the game, slowly but surely, and been replaced by the same type of people, only different individuals.
Waaaay back, way back, like December of 04, I was in Skyway playing solo on my defender (emp/dark). This guy sends me a tell.
/him - you're doing it wrong.
/me - .... what? I'm doing fine, soloing, thanks.
/him - you're doing it wrong. I have 3 50s ** why is it always 3 fifties?** and you're not doing it right. LET ME SHOW YOU.
/me - um, I'm doing just fine on my own thanks, b'bye, '/ignore'
They have been in the game forever. It doesn't make them any less stupid.
