Frustrated at the terrible skill level of players.

No, because it's also assumed, Munki, that you would be able to form your question in a reasonably intelligent manner.

Or, far more likely, you'd *come here* and find out on the Wiki before asking at all.

[/ QUOTE ] I would go to Paragonwiki before to find out info like I mentioned before asking a random person or broadcasting, but not everybody will. Besides, wiki's can be wrong. For example, while trying to find Ice Mistral last night I used paragonwiki. The coordinate numbers were correct, except the last number out of the three was -2210 instead of 2210(btw since I have no experience editing wikis I didn't touch it, so somebody should check it out).

I had to ask somebody to finally find her. The person could have assumed I was being stupid and been a dick, but he just answered my question. To me that is a much better response than assuming I should know it or should have found the asnwer from Paragonwiki(since it was wrong) than being a dick because I have a bunch of vet badges.

[/ QUOTE ]

The vast majority - really - of players I talk to in-game have never heard of Paragonwiki. I'm serious.

The vast majority who ask a badge-related question in Broadcast and I say, "Go to www.badgehunter.com and download the in-game maps, to know where everything is," have never heard of the site and are unsure what I even mean by that. "DL whut?"

I have had ONE person thank me for telling them about the in-game maps and how easy they make things. One. The vast majority of them laugh and go their way, as though even pulling down their map to look for an icon is far too much bother for them.

My supposition is that a tiny minority of players browse these forums on a regular basis.

So, last night a guy was in IP asking where the respec contact was. Instead of shouting "LOL LAZY N00b! Find her yourself!" .... I just told him. I will usually share what I know unless the person is acting like a complete idiot.

I think any supposition that the majority of the playerbase is accessing tools used by experienced forumites is gravely wrong. Most people have never heard of them; most people never come to these forums at all. When I tell them to come here, go to their AT's board and look at the Build Guides to see how others rated a power-choice they are contemplating, its like I'm speaking Latin or something.

Most people just don't do that. So, agreeing with what you're saying here.

I don't think the Wiki could handle the surge in traffic if the majority of players knew of it.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. I also feel that is something that should be remedied. Not because people should look before they ask, but because they are fantastic tools that can help improve a person's play experience.

IMO it would be very smart for Paragon Studios to embrace sites like Paragonwiki more than they do. Make a real effort to get the word out about some of the better sites.

We have a good community here, and I feel Paragon Studios does a wonderful job embracing us. But if they were to do more things like I mentioned, it could only benefit them(and us).

You do know that paragonwiki's advertised in the load screens right?

But I suppose that to people who don't want to read stuff won't read THOSE either, even though there's nothing else to do while the screen's loading.

Maybe the Devs should make those useless kiosks have game information, similar to what the wiki has? Click on a kiosk would provide a menu-driven help section about everything in the game. I'd prefer game information to be available IN the game, not outside it.

Also, it's not just the lack of skill that annoys me, but worse is the lack of knowledge about the game.

That would definitely be an improvement, though getting people to use them for information - even though or perhaps in spite of the fact that they say INFO TERMINAL on them... because you know.

No one wants to read that.

[/ QUOTE ] No, I didn't know that. I'm used to the load screen being worthless. That and I recently got dual monitors so I'm usually looking at various web pages while I play.

Yup there are plenty of little gems in the load screens. They've added a bunch of MA tips, links to the wiki and forum info, and FREEM.

You just don't seem like the giggling kind.... more like the guffawing kind... or the sinister laughing while carrying a giant scimitar kind...

Well yeah, I do tend to be a bit loud.

But you know how much I add "hehehe" to things in chat?

I do that in real life too.

Let's see:

I've had level 50's ask me the following:

* Where is City Hall? (I was standing under the atlas statue at the time).

* How do I buy a cape? (NCsoft Store, same as everything else you buy)

* Who gives quests? (Well, let's see, you've outleveled nearly everyone, I'd suggest that Selnum guy in PI, or Levantra in the RWZ...)

* How do I get to the Hollows? (*facepalm* You're not serious... oh snap! you are serious!)

* Where are the Lost? (uhhh... if we knew that, they wouldn't be Lost... oh, wait you want to hang out with them cos YOU'RE lost, riiight. Skyway, "Land of the Lost" neighborhood. No really, don't mention it.)

* How do I get into City Hall? (by... opening the door, same as everything else you enter and exit in the game?)

* Where is the mailbox? (it gets delivered electronically, just click the word Email above your chat area. Oh yeah, when that guy advertises a great rate on gold? it's a really lowball figure. Stand firm, you'll profit.)

* NED TEAM PLZ - INVITE NAO? ( uhhh... I'm busy erp'ing with this hawt vampire catgirl FBI agent, shoo! )

The answers have been changed to protect the humor, but, yes, the questions are all direct from game chat, folks.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe it is a good thing I've been avioding Atlas as much as I have been.

Yesh...

Thank you for the time...

[/ QUOTE ]

nah, its great fun to send messages like that to sg members to hear them complain in vent about it. Not knowing its you doing it as a practical joke.

Lots of 50's yada yada. still finding fun things to do.

Well I'm glad to see they took my advice(even if I did offer it after the fact).

I hope you don't mean the updater screen. I haven't looked at it in 3 years. Most the folks I play with bypass it entirely.

As for mission load screens, I alway thought they were there for fridge runs.

And that's fine for you - but the messages ARE there, IN the game, while you wait. And obviously no I'm not talking about the updater, half the time in firefox it's black until the "next" button comes up for me. But then, *I rely on the forums for my info* already.

But for those who don't - the link is right there. It's ridiculously easy to say to someone who's got a lot of questions, "next time you hit the updater, click on the 'forums' button at the top!" Or just "go to cityofheroes.com".

Honestly - people who are too lazy to rtfm, really, shouldn't complain when they don't understand. While I'm not saying there is a great manual - there ARE great ways to get the info you need in many places online AND in the game.

I really like this idea .... is it possible to put all that information in game?

Almost all that information already IS in the game. There IS a "help" tab in your menu. It's reasonably complete for the basics, and anything else ... well, likely too specific to worry about putting in until someone sees a huge need.

"Recommendations on how to not screw up a good pick up group" is not in the game. That comes with "common sense".
