T___T

The other night I dreamed I was this guy hero who would just *fry* people... but they were clones, so it was okay. Until he killed this girl that wasn't a clone. He could also pop electronic equipment by making it overload.

>_> I think I may have been playing too much of my scrapper the night before lol.

Logic... I ... I love logic. Why must it betray me so?

I don't see how this turnewd into an argument. Newbies who get PLed to 50 are a problem. I teamed with a Soldier of Arachnos the other day who didn't know what the black market was. That shouldn't happen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hang on, why shouldn't it? Its optional content. The whole invention system is optional. The Devs have said explicitly that several mods/improvements should be considered optional. I *think* Ouroborous falls under this optional category as well.

So why fault *any* player who isn't knowledgeable about IO's or the black market/auction house? The game doesn't require them to utilize any of it. Why should you?

Whether utilized or not, I don't see any reason not to be aware of its existance. Heck, I discovered the Wentworths back when I was level 2 in Atlas when I started and was fresh out of the tutorial zone. How?

"Hey, this building looks neat.. what is it? Hey, I found the auction house.. cool. What's for sale? What!? I'll never have that much money!!"

New players don't have veteran badges.

[/ QUOTE ] So if I start a new account you'll be able to look at my vet badges and tell how long I've been playing?

[/ QUOTE ]

Here's an interesting data point - how many people have accounts started several years apart? This is not a claim one way or the other, it's an actual question that might bring more meaning to the discussion. Personally, I never remember to check badges at all out of sheer forgetfulness.

[/ QUOTE ] Honestly, I have no idea. But I think(speculation) it is enough that relying on vet badges is a poor idea.

I only look at vet badges when someone is being exceptionally foolish. I then look at the badges to determine how I should deal with them.

2 or less? All right.. benefit of the doubt, try offering advice to correct their foolhardy actions.

3 or more? You should really know better.. I'll give you one shot to straighten up or its a 1 star and pray I never see you again.

I honestly never look at badges. Like, ever. I think I check some random passer by's badges when the topic is raised on the forums and promptly forget about it.

But still, if people meet a specifically poor level 50 character with no veteran badges who doesn't seem to know his left hand from his right... Well, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Of course, segregating people purely based on badges is silly, obviously, but I wouldn't say it's a good idea to just discard them as meaningless. Nothing in life is ever absolutely certain.

Used to be that if someone was a level 50, you could count on a certain level of skill and teamwork, because they had worked hard through all the zones, and knew what to do.I'm just frustrated at the ever increasing level of newbies, leveling fast, and not grasping basic game fundamentals.

I had exactly the same experience as the OP recently. Led an AE PUG and had to repeatedly remind the team to stick together, let the tank begin aggro, etc. And it's not like we had some uber scrapper or controller that was able to leap ahead of the tank safely. They'd go off on their own, aggro too much to handle and promprtly die. The phrase "herding cats" came to mind.

Interestingly the third character I ever made, 51 months ago, just got the Patriot badge today at level 36. Logged on to get the Fifth Anniversary badge and notice the rent was overdue.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. Taken as one factor among many badges can be of some help. I just don't feel using them as the sole determining factor is a good idea(I know that's not what you said, I'm just throwing that out there).

1st was 60 months yesterday.
2nd will be 33 months next week on Friday (29th).
3rd was 21 months on May 1.

But I think people use vet badges in the opposite direction. If you have none or few and play like a newbie people figure you are new (if they look) and cut you slack. If you have many vet badges (if they look) and ask where the train is you're probably going to get heckled.

Of course if you've been around long enough and you know you don't know everything, you ask anyway and don't care who heckles you.

total kick to the gut

They definitely aren't the *only* or even the *first* thing I look at. Behaviors, chat, name and appearance, I'll look over powers and then badges. Tell you what I *have* been seeing on more and more high-vet-counts, toons that are *obvious* eula breakers. Doing it just because they think they can get away with it? Or doing it because they're not going to keep the toon? Or maybe just because they want it to get genericd? Dunno. But I always think to myself, after seeing yet another Hulk with a faintly mis-spelled name wander by and check that they aren't in fact unaware of the requirement not to do this, that they should KNOW better.

And once more for the record:

We are not 'bashing newbies'.

We are *bashing NOOBS*. there is a DIFFERENCE. It's been stated several times before now, I suggest you actually read those posts about the clear and obvious differences between a new player and a noob.

[/ QUOTE ]

Bashing *anyone* is never okay. And that was *my* point.

Have a good one.

[/ QUOTE ]

But you called us hypocrites and cast aspersions on our motivation for forming teams.

The lesson for you here to is not to engage in a thread loaded for bear. You seem reasonable, but your initial post stirred Zekiran, and she's never been one that even I would mess with unless I really had my [censored] together. Bad move...

Aside from that, your point is taken, but the tone you've taken isn't likely to garner any friends.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, please.

I never fail to be amused at attempts to make one or the other forum-member look like a bad-a** who must be bowed to, scraped to and generally propitiated with all due respect/fear, lest said member Get All Medieval upon one.

This is an online forum, and me.... I don't bow to anyone. Maybe you do, which is your choice & have at it. But not everyone is going to do that. Anyone with an ego that needs propitiation on an Online forum is a pretty sad case, to tell the truth. I'm not here to salve anyone's ego.

As was previously mentioned, friends like some people here, I don't need. I would actually question myself were I to gain their [worthless, because we're all online] approval.

I see that mileage varies on that point, but c'est la forums.

True Story.

About a week ago, I logged onto our 3rd account. I joined a team and was happily putzing around. When I get a tell from a "Vet".

/t Idiot: OMG YOU BOUGHT MONEY FROM A RMTer.
/t Me: Um, what?
/t Idiot: YOU HAVE SETS AND ONLY 3 MONTH BADGE.
/t Me: This is my 3rd acct...
/t Idiot: I just petitioned you for breaking the EULA.
/t Me: I just petitioned you for being stupid.
/t Idiot: What?

I quit and logged. I really hate Vets some times.

Good lord. No, you weren't encountering a vet, you were encountering a worthless pile of crud, that's what...

Man, learn something new every day. LOL. It must be such a hoot to be a game-master in an online MMO.

Lol what you should have done is immediately log back on to your oldest toon, and give them a hard time with it.

Great post Sam. I quoted this for efftct though...

Look there are a bunch of ways to look at this and i was a bit rash about my initial posts to this thread. It came to me that sometimes i let the little ones play my account. They wouldn't know where everything is at at all. Might ask someone and get the same response posted by a few people here.

Nothing is ever as it seems to be sure.

If someone asks a question about something, does it really hurt to answer it no matter what level they are?

If you'd answer a level 2 with 0 badges, then there's no excuse to not answer a level 50 other than you simply wanting to be a jerk. If they don't want to listen to your answer that's another issue, but complaining about new players with level 50s having questions just shows that you're a hypocrite that can't be bothered to be helpful out of some silly sense of vengeance.

Maybe they liked how fast they were levelling in the AE after just starting, and wanted to learn to play after they got to 50. Does it really matter?

I personally haven't noticed an increase in idiocy on teams - there are just as many "experienced" players with high level characters who don't have a friggin' clue as new players - likely far more.

Blaming it on the AE is just trying to find an excuse to not help new players with questions, and is an extremely poor showing of the community. And to respond to the "Well, they won't hang around anyway!" crowd, damn right they won't if every time they ask a question they get mocked and belittled instead of answered.

How many of the same people posting about "stupid level 50s" refused to go into PvP zones because of the exact sort of behavior you're exhibiting?

The whole AE conversation is a moot point btw. If they Started the game and got to 50 the next day or even within a couple of days, that character is gone anyways according to the banstick.

I don't know if the AE farms are to blame for this, but I have recently started a few alts and while I am doing the tutorial mission, people ask me VERY newbish questions about the game. (like how to use powers, etc.) It's almost like they don't READ the instructions provided! I did answer the questions, but it's still kinda irritating!

Like the Winter Lord Babies, eventually the AE PL Babies will die out as well. Unfortunately we have to put up with them in the meantime.

I look at badges before I ask ppl if they need help or have questions about anything. If they are a vet then they know how to play and if they have a question for me about mms theyll ask. Occasionally it might be a vet on a new account but most of the time if they don't have a vet badge then they are new.
