Frustrated at the terrible skill level of players.

I really enjoy the AE system, it's a great tool to create stories and characters, write dialog, and bring some interesting ideas to life. However, i am finding that the majority of players, are simply interested in finding the AE mission which will give them the most XP and influence, for the least amount of effort. Getting into teams with people, who have really no clue of how to play the game, don't understand teamwork, following the Tank, the concept of pulling, or looking at your team roster to see how everyone's endurance is doing before aggroing the next mob, just drives me crazy when these players are in their high 30's 40's and even at 50, because they really have never taken the time to actually PLAY THE GAME. I had a really bad string of PUGs tonight. Used to be that if someone was a level 50, you could count on a certain level of skill and teamwork, because they had worked hard through all the zones, and knew what to do.I'm just frustrated at the ever increasing level of newbies, leveling fast, and not grasping basic game fundamentals. I really hope this post sinks in to at least one person, and saves one team from wiping, and then i'll be happy.

I know what you mean. This is why, outside of a few situations, I avoid MA teams. I prefer to either do some of the stories solo or get teams to do normal contact missions/scanner/paper. Not all MA teams are bad but I find since I can't play very often I'll just avoid the headache altogether. It's a shame, really, but many are really that bad.
Having chatted a bit with the good Dr here, I can say, bad pugs affect everyone
Seriously, it'd be nice if a requirement to use the AE was perhaps a 3 month badge, or a certain amount of hours actually played on one character/combined over several, to at least get the hang of the GAME.

Form your own teams, find out who the idiots are, give them one star and add a Note saying "idiot", and then kick them. There, problem solved.
Unless you don't want to be a total jerk, then you might try to start a conversation with them and help them learn how to play the REAL game.
Yeah, good luck with that.

It's been years since that was the case, probably more than 4... unfortunately....
Use the Add Note feature. Turn the show stars option on.
It makes it easy to keep track of the players that don't have a concept of what is going on.
You can also use it to keep track of players that are causing this kind of problem.
The star won't show up until you see them, but then you'll know.
It's kind of a pain to have to use the "add notes" on all your teammates before you hook up with them. That's why it's been suggested that the stars get shown in the /search window.
Yeah. It's bad.
It's farming. You know what farming looks like. If you don't want to be around it, you can leave before it all goes to Hades.
You know what a team looks like going south.
Tag them and leave the team.
When you see that one star hanging over the head of which ever character that they might be playing when you run into them next, you will thank yourself for knowing from the get go what you are dealing with.
Some people have argued that really it takes no skill or time to learn to use powers well. I'm glad that you are on my side that it takes time, practice, and experience not only to learn how to use powers but to learn how to play well enough to be an important part of a team via teamwork.
Even Wolverine uses teamwork.

Yeah it's terrible ... All these new people in Co* .. How dare the dev's try to make the game popular. I'm sure it'll get worse too. There gonna have to make up for all the accounts they are banning due to the leveling pact exploit ...
A topic that's been discussed to death I'm sure. But here's my 2 cents.
Mission Architect was created to cater to those who are interested to make their own story arcs. However this only appeals to the portion of the player base who actually appreciate the intent of the MA, and not to everyone as whole. Not everyone plays an MMO finding the quality of its lore as the main appeal.
Alot of us primarily like the action, to blast and smash things without thinking too much, over sinking ourselves into the setting's story and seeing ourselves as part of it, in a roleplaying sense. That's where the draw factor of AE farms or PL arcs comes in.
Personally, I'm already close to being a 12-month veteran. I've played since i12, been in a enough TFs and some trials where I'm presented varying situations and with varying difficulty. Every mistake and faceplant I've been through equals a lesson learnt, and thus I improve in skill. AE boss farms/PLs present only one standard scenario of battle, and perhaps that's why players remain rigid in their playstyle and don't improve in other ways.
I won't dictate how they should be playing the game though. I've joined up with these teams before because right now, tickets are the best way to get rare/uncommon invention salvage for me to complete my IO sets. But I've been in enough of these arcs so far to see where the issue lies.
Wait......some players don't play very well? i had no idea! what should we do?

I'm not frustrated at the NUMBER of newbies, it's the increasing lazy, lack of skill they bring to a team. New players are good for the game, lazy players are not.

And all defenders are healers.
I don't know if the AE farms are to blame for this, but I have recently started a few alts and while I am doing the tutorial mission, people ask me VERY newbish questions about the game. (like how to use powers, etc.) It's almost like they don't READ the instructions provided! I did answer the questions, but it's still kinda irritating!
Then, just today, while I was in Atlas, I saw a level 1 Blaster taking on a group of level 4 Hellions (probably 4-5 of them!) I found that the 'shrug' emote was the only appropriate way to react! (I REALLY need a 'facepalm' emote!) Seriously, I think it's like "Rise of the Newbs" in CoH! (Which actually isn't a BAD thing with CO coming so soon!)
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

You do realize that there's a difference between a noob and a newb, right?
Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing.
Newbs are those who are new to some task and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage.
n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it.

You have to define 'level of skill'. I don't die very often and when I do hit 50 it will have been through my skill and my hard work soloing, but any mechanic that may involve teaming I will have no experience in. However, I also avoid PUGs, always have in any MMO. When I have grouped, it is to Mal a new MM to teach them about bodyguarding or some tactic they aren't familiar with.
Skill is relative to an individual experience. I will only have had experience with one char at 50 so my overall knowledge of other classes will be next to nil.
Doc Mech-Nec (Exalted): 50 Bots/FF MM
Crey Radiation Tank (Exalted): 50 Rad/Rad Corr
Servers: Exalted, Triumph, Champion
Alts: 32

Why does anybody care if you teammates are good or not? All they're good for is increasing the spawn size. Doesn't take any skill to fill(I can rhyme!).
Let's see:
I've had level 50's ask me the following:
* Where is City Hall? (I was standing under the atlas statue at the time).
* How do I buy a cape? (NCsoft Store, same as everything else you buy)
* Who gives quests? (Well, let's see, you've outleveled nearly everyone, I'd suggest that Selnum guy in PI, or Levantra in the RWZ...)
* How do I get to the Hollows? (*facepalm* You're not serious... oh snap! you are serious!)
* Where are the Lost? (uhhh... if we knew that, they wouldn't be Lost... oh, wait you want to hang out with them cos YOU'RE lost, riiight. Skyway, "Land of the Lost" neighborhood. No really, don't mention it.)
* How do I get into City Hall? (by... opening the door, same as everything else you enter and exit in the game?)
* Where is the mailbox? (it gets delivered electronically, just click the word Email above your chat area. Oh yeah, when that guy advertises a great rate on gold? it's a really lowball figure. Stand firm, you'll profit.)
* NED TEAM PLZ - INVITE NAO? ( uhhh... I'm busy erp'ing with this hawt vampire catgirl FBI agent, shoo! )
The answers have been changed to protect the humor, but, yes, the questions are all direct from game chat, folks.

I laugh because this is sooooo true. I've had the same questions. The City Hall question always cracks me up. I've had a question about where the Hollows are as well.
All from lvl 50's as well.

Kind of like many other answers here, I have to say this doesn't seem new. A few obvious solutions:
1. Post on the appropriate server forum for an active SG to join.
2. Same, post you level and times you play, see if you can get at least one steady team.
3. When you find a good player, friend them. Hopefully you'll soon have a list of players around your level who play when you do.
4. Start your own teams.
As an experienced player, I'm surprised you don't know these things already. You must be a noobie.
That problem pre-dates AE teams.
Not sure why everyone is suddenly under the impression that farming is new and only existed since the implementation of player mission. Get real, guys/gals.
I really enjoy the AE system, it's a great tool to create stories and characters, write dialog, and bring some interesting ideas to life.
