City of Heroes Going Rogue - FAQ - Discussion

In the survey it was mentioned about 10 unlockable Enhancement Slots that if all are unlocked make a 50 a virtual 60.
Why not just add new End-Game Content and up the Level Cap?
I know alot of folks who are tired of toiling to 50, and retiring toons.

TL;DR: It wouldn't solve anything, just break more things.
Because then they have to redo the entire end-game. Hami, STF, RSF, ITF, RWZ. PvP explodes. HOs/IOs are rendered useless, turning all that time they spent into a waste. Every single villain group has to have 10 more levels added to them, they have to add one, if not more, zones to the game along with dozens of contacts and even more missions. At least one TF/SF.
They've already said they can't give us anymore powers/enh slots. 24 powers and... whatever number of ENH is already enough to make a silly powerful character. 10 more levels worth and you'd run out of things to get/slot. Unless you add in 10/11th powers to all the sets. Maybe some 5/6th to the epic sets. 5th to the power pools. That's... what, a hundred powers? Powers the game balance can't handle us having?
If they do that, and then keep doing it. Advancing to 70, 80, etc. Eventually. You will 6 slot everything. You will have all the powers in both your sets and all your pools. Unless they keep expanding them. And if the powers team keeps expanding them, well, they have to do them all at once to be fair. And that's a LOT of effort. And it means that they can't make any new sets. They'll be busy.
And they WILL have to keep doing it. People will hit 60 just as easy as 50, no matter how hard they make it. Thus stalling content as they try to appeal to the end-gamers. Sure, they could alternate, but that still slows down the content production by a lot.
That's why they added IOs to the game. Purples. Badges. Day Jobs. Etc. These are ways to advance your character without throwing the game out of wack or delaying everything forever. They're also considering(it seems) adding a new form of Enh slot that you earn at 50. To replace actual leveling.
To me, this sounds like a good idea. While you still have to deal with making tougher content for these new Turbo-50s to fight. You don't have to worry about powers/enh or the actual "leveling" issues. To appease those that want this system, they should do something else as well, maybe have a little circle fill in around the "50" on their display to show what "level" 50 they are. But that's just me wondering, topic wise, at this point.
The point is, it's a large can of worms that the Devs don't want to open. For actual game balance AND mechanic reasons. That's why these alternative leveling systems are more desired and strived for.
I'm excited, I had hoped for years for a chance like this! I honestly thought it wasn't ever gonna happen.
Hmmm, my "Hero" turning _Dark_. My "Villian" turning _Light_. How will save Paragon City then?

I can totally see us being forced to hit 50, THEN given the option of switching sides only to start over at lvl 1. And since the FAQ said you can switch more than once, this could be on a constant loop.

Some1 else has suggested this, and I suggested they were crazy. It would make the moral compass idea rather pointless muchless its in general a bad idea. Im pretty sure it wont be set up like u suggested.

Actually, it makes perfect sense to me. A redeemed villain would need to prove him/herself to the populace (normal & metahuman) that they really are the hero they're claiming to be. Likewise the hero now in the Rogue Isles has a lot of distrust among the perps he used to smack around--on top of which, he needs to earn his bones. I won't say that I like it, per se...but I will say that it makes sense.
I'm surprised I'm so excited, given that we know virtually nothing about this expansion, aside from side-switching and possibly plain old opening all ATs to both (all three?) sides. One can probably infer more (at least five more) regular ATs, which would mean at least ONE of my long-standing suggestions has a chance of making it through. And most likely handguns for SOMEONE.
I'm very excited, however, because I'm seeing an expansion pack and I'm seeing the game and the company move forward. That's always, always good news. I'm also VERY happy to see game shift focus away from Lord Recluse for five minutes. Yes, I know we're switching from one alternate Statesman to another one, but I always found Tyrant to be a much more interesting villain, anyway. The "I live in garbage and dress in black" caricature that was Recluse has always felt forced, and a nice, clean dictatorship would be a cool change of pace.
Overall, I can't wait. I'm not sure I can deal with pre-orders, as I would have to order cross-continent, but I'm hoping there will be a digital purchase somewhere along the line. I'm excited, and that's something which surprises me

I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so...scared.
Veridian Dynamics. Mistakes. We all make them. But sometimes mistakes lead to great discoveries. Mistakes are how we learn and grow... so we can do amazing things.
When you think about it, shouldn't you be thanking us for making mistakes? Veridian Dynamics. We're sorry. You're welcome.

I didnt say it couldnt be somehow rationalized, I said it would make the moral compass idea pointless and that is a generally bad idea. You seem to agree that its a bad idea, and considering how Posi said you could bounce back and forth, having to sway your moral compass just to start over and over again and RELEARN your powers seems rather redundant. At that point I wouldnt call it side switching, but rather some variation of AT proliferation.
Still, thats not happening.
wow! this is awesome! as someone who's been with CoH since beta, you guys continue to amaze me!
truth be told, i was starting to get a little excited about a certain other superhero MMORPG coming out, but it's good to know that you guys are ready to rise to the challenge!
long live CoH!
Side switching sounds good....but I'm curious about badges...
If, let's say, I get my main badger (EI lvl 50 Kin/Rad Defender) to switch sides for the badge for switching; Is there a badge for switching back and forth (guessing/hoping not)?
Also, if I side switch from heroes to the villain side with EI, would I lose all/any of the "hero only" badges; will he be able to gain any of the "villain only" badges? If I am able to get "villain only" badges after the switch and if we are able to switch back to heroes again, will I lose those "villain only" badges (and if we lost the "hero only" badges when we swapped to the villain side, do we get the "hero only" badges back after we switch back to the heroic side?)?
Hooray for more content that is more than a few new faces/costume items/emotes (no offense Jay...love ya!)

Okay, now ya see, this new Going Rogue expansion is going to be a problem: If you guys at Paragon Studions keep pressing that dang Awesome Button, how am I supposed to be lured away by shiny new MMOs?
Talk about selfish...

I'm really excited. My main character was originally rolled with a bio that had him starting in Arachnos, and breaking out and crossing over. His whole SG was founded on the principle of being an underground-railroad for disenchanted Arachnos ops.
Obviously - we need way more information before I can really make anything of this. Will I finally get to move my 'gray-alignment' MM over to heroside? Will we have Brutes and Tanks in Atlas Park?
Will 'Rogue' content only take place in Praetoria?
(BTW, I guessed this expansion was coming down the pike a few months ago when the "Reformed" badge went away. It's nice to be right now and then.)

4) *laughs* I'll take my tank over ANY Brute in the game, period, and she can probably take 90% of them easily.

I'd take that challenge in a second. Plus, I think I'd really enjoy KoB'ing my fist down your throat. Something tells me it would give me that warm tingly feeling.

I wonder if there will be any graphical updates to regular CoH/ CoV, like there were for CoH when CoV arrived.
[/ QUOTE ]
I kinda wonder about this too. Posi's mentioned that he's got a team "looking at a graphical update" for the game. For a drastic upscale in the FX, that could be wrapped into a purchasable expansion.

Someone pointed out elsewhere that Positron said they had "R-type programmers" working on it, which he called an in-joke. R for "Rogue" ?

I hope we can get some more server slots with this expansion. Yes I know we have 36, but some of us even have those all filled up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here here! I have 36 slots filled up as well! I am not kidding when I say that I will pay for more character slots to try out any future powersets. Just don't make me delete any of my precious characters!
Holy crap I am so freakin' excited for this expansion. I am going to hate the wait for this so very much.
Seriously. My excitement for City of Heroes/Villains' future could extinguish a thousand suns.

Samuel_Tow: Your avatar is... I think I like it
Just my two cents - I'm really not a fan. I was looking forward to more power proliferation than straight out switching. I prefer the villain ATs anyways.
I think I would have been more excited about this two years ago than I am now, because two years ago, I would have paid good money to be able to level up through City of Heroes with a mastermind. Now that I have a level 50 controller and a level 40ish peacebringer, I'm less excited.
I am delighted to see that it's in an entirely different universe than Primal Earth, and one that looks a bit more ultra-tech than ours. An even more science-fictiony version of City of Heroes is something I've wished for ever since I first joined. And yeah, given that I feel like Statesman's America and the Rogue Isles are both equally reprehensible systems, a neutral super-character who opposes both of them, and who opposes Emperor Cole's "utopia" as well, while fighting for justice for the victims of all three, is something I could really, really be down with. The sample artwork in that trailer looks really, really pretty.
But it's going to rise or fall, with me, on the basis of the writing, so I sincerely hope that it's not issue 16. Now that I know that you're working with roughly the same mission creation tools that we have, with mediocre tools for cut scenes and branching missions added on, I know that you just haven't had time to do anything really impressive. And, frankly, I'm hoping for something a lot deeper, a lot more intelligent in its writing, than either City of Heroes or City of Villains. When we're shown Emperor Cole's utopia, I hope that it's written and shown in a way that makes more sense than the nonsensical politics of The Council, the almost non-existent government of Statesman's America, the puppy-kicking Arachnos. Even super-villains, when they govern, end up having to actually govern -- show us that, finally, and you'll make me a very happy man.
But even if that's not the direction that you're taking the storyline, I personally would much prefer that you took your time and wrote it well and thoughtfully than if you rushed something out just to introduce side-switching and power customization.
All I know about this expansion is... Krotus and Sorozat are going to be frikken ecstatic being able to get out of their current situations.
Thank you devs for finally doing this. I'm sure the deaths of the interns had nothing to do with that...
(( My previous sig was "Every time someone asks about switching sides, Positron kills and intern. ))
This is great! Been waiting for this for a long time. Now I'm not sure if the question has been asked, but if say a Brute (for example) decided to become good he keeps his Brute powers right? Now if he does then what does that say about starting off good and evil? If the powers don't define you as good or evil. Can we then make a evil controller or say a good Brute from scratch?
This is great! Especially considering I have become bored with CoH/CoV and have been thinking about moving on to another game! Even the Mission Architect didn't relieve the boredom so perhaps this will! I can't wait!
Yay, we finally get to meet Preatorian Earth Requiem, good Nazis? Wtf? :P
