City of Heroes Going Rogue - FAQ - Discussion

1) About time. Being able to switch sides has only been talked about since CoV was launched, and I seem to remember vague promises back then that it would happen.

2) Paid expansion? Not if that's all your getting with it. You'd need a bunch of new archetypes, powers, costumes, villain and hero groups, etc. Basically, at least as much as came in either the CoH or CoV disks. Minimum. Otherwise you're really not adding any new content.

I am meeting with the villains in a dark alley for an early purchase of the goods. I brought a briefcase full of newpaper clippings rubber banded together with 20 dollar bills on top of them. And they will bring the box of... "ah yes here it is...pleasure doing business with you" as I walk out opening the much anticipated expansion I reach my hand in and pull out the glorious "WHAT....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" it was a copy of WoW. "I shall get you villains if it is the last thing I do!"

I suspected that i16 would have something "big", but I didn't think it'd be this...

Side-switching will definitely be appreciated by many, and it has a lot of potential, but at the same time I can't help but feel a bit concerned. There are a lot of things that could end up having a negative effect depending on how they're implemented and how they end up being used. Hopefully everything will turn out for the best though. Time will tell.

It'll certainly be interesting to here more details later on.

WooHoo, we can switch back and forth!

I'm still curious how they'll handle things like SG/VG membership, Influence to Infamy conversion (same thing data, but not economically at the moment), Market Slots, Badges crossing over and, of course, the penality for crossing over (I honestly hope there isn't one, and no advantage for never crossing over since it discourages using the system somewhat).

Hmmmm,

A timely announcement with little to no information on the heels of the MA AE debacle. Sounds like marketing had a hand in this.

Remember last summer when they would only release tid bits about Issue 13 and it stretched out to I think like 5 or 6 months? That wasn't fun and it made a lot of players angry. Here it comes again. I can't imagine this big of an issue (Sounds like a COH2) coming out any time soon. Maybe a year of stringing us along.

I hate when they do this. Issue 13/14 all over again. So maybe early 2010 for a release date and until then little scraps of information released as needed to keep the player base abated?

I think the first thing I want to know is if side switching is permanent or only exists in this "alternate universe"? If it doesn't allow you to come back to the real world then it would be nothing more than a big MA kind of world. Think of how long the Devs have talked about keeping some powersets strictly villain or hero. Now they are abandoning this? Now my mastermind can walk around Brickstown?

Before I get my hopes up I really want more information. This seems like a premature release of information to keep a proverbial carrot dangled in front of us.

I have a curiosity, with this release will they be eliminating the Praetorian Arcs we have already? just because a whole story and city... its nice but from a story standpoint you can stop it in one arc ... maybe the removal of those arcs then an endgame TF that pits you against the Praetorians?

"If it's end-game you want, it's end-game you're gonna get!"

I can totally see us being forced to hit 50, THEN given the option of switching sides only to start over at lvl 1. And since the FAQ said you can switch more than once, this could be on a constant loop.

It would be kinda dirty, but I'd say I saw it comming.

I do hope and PRAY this will be a 50 zone!!!

Otherwise.....

Wouldnt this carrot have been dangling since the similarly prematurely leaked 'survey' last Aug? That is, if you believed the survey was real - in which case you would have been right.

Will this alter the system requirements of the game?

I am hoping the new zone will also be a zone players can start their characters in. I'd love to be able to start a newly created Mastermind in Praetoria, but I doubt it'll be like that.

I also hope there will be a couple NEW PvP zones in this latest expansion.

I also hope there are more trailers like the one for this expansion. It's a VERY good one.

Thank you Paragon Studios

I've played CoH since beta on and off for 30+ months of paid time. I've always loved the content you guys have released regardless of the issues that have come with it. looking forward to a awesome new expansion.

Some1 else has suggested this, and I suggested they were crazy. It would make the moral compass idea rather pointless muchless its in general a bad idea. Im pretty sure it wont be set up like u suggested.

Demon Summoning would be a great MM power. However, I think elemental summoning would be just as great. The devs could make the tiers look like this maybe:
Tier 1: Fire Elemental (blaster)
Tier 2: Water (Healer/Buffer/Troller)
Tier 3: Earth (Tank)

Another great addition would be an animal MM. I don't know what animals you could use in the different teirs...maybe lions, tigers, and bears oh my! I doubt the dev's will read this and make any adjustments but I had to put in my 2 cents.

I also like the previous post about criminals usually fighting each other compared to the police. I used to play DAOC and the keep taking was always one of the funniest parts of the game. I know they were suppose to implement base attacks, but I think a better way to do it is use Arachnos bases and maybe police departments(?). Once again just my 2cents. Flame or comment away as needed!

Ok, devs - how many cheesecakes for a closed beta spot? How about 4? One for the community team, one for the programming team, one for the design team and one for the art team...

Send them a fruit basket. Those seem to work best.

Is this a paid expansion? How much do these usually cost?

(I hope it's free... )

B.) The problem with power customization was that it would take too much time or energy to do in an issue. Being that this is an expansion, and much bigger than any 1 issue, Power customization could fit.

I think people read too much into that one scene. To me, it was It was just symbolic are being able to crossover back and forth.

Sure, if its only this symbolism you were basing it off. But what abt the 'survey' that mentioned Going Rogue would have power customization? Yeah. Id bet on it. And I bet on it coming with the PAID part of the expansion, not on the free issue (i16) thats attatched.

It will almost definitely be a payed expansion (a la CoV). I can't recall at the moment how much CoV cost at launch, but I believe it was on the order of $30-40. I can see this costing about as much, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be less. Not that that matters much, as I'd shell out the extra bucks anyways for a CE version, lol.
