City of Heroes Going Rogue - FAQ - Discussion
Changing sides was one of the features I wanted the least but this certainly looks nice! I like how it's presented.
I'll wait before judging and going ape**** all over because we will be able to change sides.

Am I going crazy or did I really see in the FAQs that it is going to be an open beta?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, you're not going crazy. Well, maybe you are, but you've just joined the club along with the rest of us...
I have a question that is not on the FAQ. It seems that this will be an expansion that we have to buy, much like how City of Villains was available for sale when it first came out. Will Rogue change from "You have to buy this to play it" to "We've decided to give it to everyone that already has COH" later on?
The reason I ask was that I purchased City of Villains the day before it was made available for free to owners of City of Heroes.
I felt very burned about that.
It still stings a little, too.

So...is this going to cost me money?:P
[/ QUOTE ]
Since it's being billed as the first expansion since CoV, then I think that you can take it as a given that it will be a new box that you will have to pay for; so yes, it will cost you money.

I doubt it'll cost as much as a whole new game though, only because the FAQs say that you have to be subscribed to CoH/V in order to use "Going Rogue." Pricing it at $30 or $40 would force new subscribers to spend $50 or $60 to get the whole game. So I'm speculating it will be priced around $19.99.
And then hopefully there will be a Collector's Edition with lots of extra trinkets.

Assumptionware:
<ul type="square">[*]In a recent interview Positron noted he is working in Issue 18.
This expansion is being worked on.
At worst, this expansion will come with Issue 18.
We are about to see Issue 15. That leaves 3 issues to go. 4 if you count issue 15 as it's not out yet.
Lets average 3 months per issue. We may be talking somewhere between 9 to 12 months for this to launch, placing launch somewhere in Quarter 1 2010.
[*]Recently Positron noted in an interview "Power customization was something we were not able to do while we were at Cryptic, that's all I can say at the moment":
Assumption: Power Customization will be part of this expansion.
[*]Recently Positron noted in an interview that they hired a lot of people precisely to work on a visual upgrade to the game.
Assumption: Enhanced graphics will be part of this expansion.
[*]A while back some players got a survey that asked people about potential features and what they would be more happy about. Between the things listed there we saw a new advancement system that would give us global character slots to put special enhancements on. This may be another potential new feature on this expansion.[/list]

MMO expansions often include a free month (though WoW might have halted that trend) but I really think a 30-40 price tag is most likely in any case.

Well, to all the naysayers (like me) who were never willing to admit that the Devs actually DO listen to players, it's time we sat down to a big heaping helping of crow.
In fact, things have been steadily improving ever since the Tyrant and his ilk were kicked to the curb, Long Live Positron.
A lot of folks -- and I was one of the more vocal -- have suggested/asked for an effective end to "alignments" since before CoV was in beta, and yes, it took a while, but all good things, etc.
Congratulations in advance, Paragon, on what is sure to be a whole new epic era for this great game.
Now if you would please listen to us about getting rid of Travel Power Suppresion, the game will be that much closer to perfection.

QR: Dear god, people. *hits head against wall* The FAQ doesn't tell us anything new, and we still have people asking questions like, "Switching sides? I don't understand what this means?" and "So this is all free, right?"
Sit on your hands, read the press release, think, and THEN post.

Am I going crazy or did I really see in the FAQs that it is going to be an open beta?

You did see that. But I'd be shocked if it wasn't preceded with a closed beta.

The more I see coming out of Paragon Studios, the happier I am that I came back!
I would like to extend an offer to NcSoft to trade my AoC account for this expansion. A Yankee Swap-Em Up if you will.
I only played for 30 days...well...like 10 of that 30...its a...great game. Honestly, its....great. It has boobs in it.
Just Pm me Devs and let me know who to change the account name to.
I just question, if they are in fact doing a graphical overhaul.... is this new world supposed to exist inside the same COX world we've been playing or is it separate? If it is the same, does that mean that this will in effect replace the game we have now?
And of course, if there are new graphics, I also question the computer power needed, like the others have.
Not that I care, because I'll totally have my intel I7 computer before a release date is announced. hehe

BZZT! I'm putting I16 at later this year.
EDIT: Also, I have to agree with the possibility of a $19.99 upgrade code. Of course, they know the rest of us tools are going to shell out $39.99 for the CE box.
