On days like today, when a long server update has been scheduled, I like to keep track of when the servers come up. Unfortunately the page in question here, shows that the servers are all up, when I know they are not. And even thought it is supposed to update without refreshing the page, it doesn't change without refresh (at least in Google Chrome). Also, the Rss feed isn't recognized as an Rss feed on any feed program I use.
I don't hope that it will be fixed soon, but I did want someone to be aware of the problem. -
Quote:Ah, well. When Radio Missions were first introduced, the Devs assured us that running them would be "optional". I see that they have a different definition of "optional" than I do. The running of newspaper missions on Villainside content is why I stopped playing Villains. I don't like Radio Missions and I don't like Newspaper Missions. I've got 4 characters I've started since coming back that are all stalled at level 8 that I can not level any further as long as I choose to not street sweep or use "optional" content that I do not enjoy.yeah I rolled a storm/sonic defender, went through all the Atlas Park stuff and finished at level 8 with no contacts.
I can kind of see why they did it this way, to encourage folks ot use the radio more. I have an ill/rad controller that's barely done radio and safeguard missions because he's been swimming in Contacts from the get go.
Really I think they've just made it match to Villainside a bit more, once I got past Mercy Island I had to do paper missions to pick up more contacts.
Well, til i hit level 20 anyway and you get about 4 dumped on you >>
I'm not feeling very welcomed back. -
Quote:Yes, there were people who did the original origin contacts. I am one of those people. In addition to this, I can not stand scanner missions. I try to do everything I can to avoid scanner missions. I was one of those players who was overjoyed by the introduction of turning off XP because that meant I could do each and every contacts' mission in the order I met the contacts.Go run police scanner missions!
(people seriously did the original origin contacts?I'd just street sweep to 5 then go to Kings and to scanners to get a contact!)
I wish there was a way of avoiding scanner missions now that the new (to me) introductory contacts have "gaps" in their story arcs. -
Quote:Merging Announcements and News and Events with the News, Events & Announcement Discussion might help. Having a separate discussion thread seems redundant. One favor,
Let's not allow this conversation to solely revolve around possibly consolidating AT forums.
We would like to see other suggestions for simplifying the current forum structure.
Calendar, while cute and helpful doesn't really fit on a forum. It has no threads, and no way to create any threads. I don't want it to go away, but maybe another place could be found for it?
Dev Digest and Community Digest could be merged into one big list of red name posts. It might also help to merge Developers' Corner into this.
Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs should have a sub forum for the most current issue Bug Report Forums.
Combine the two PVP sub forums into just one.
Regional forums, such as The European Lounge and Oceanic Lounge are not really necessary. We are one big City of X family, aren't we?
Comic and Hero/Vilian Culture, Roleplaying, Screenshots & Fan Creations, Forum Games. These should all be combined into just "Fun Stuff".
Last, I believe that we could do with a forum purge. Do we really need posts that go all the way back to the launch? How many dead accounts are there on the forum? While I know that many people wanted large colorful pictures in their sig, do they need to be so large? Sometimes the post text takes up less room than the sig all by itself. I wouldn't mind going back to text only sigs, and keep them to a single line, thank you very much! -
Quote:You should try contacting NCSoft support via the web:
http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...p_sid=ofIAqiUj
Ok, once more, I have contacted them. I have confirmed that they received my email with a read receipt. I have not received any response from them at all. I seems that they are CHOOSING to not answer me at this point.
I have contacted some of my friends to see if they can log into their NCsoft account. THEY ARE ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! Their "log in" to their NCsoft account will not work, even though their "log in" here, WHICH IS THE SAME LOG IN AND PASSWORD isn't working. (obviously they each have a different log in and password from me, and each other.) None of them can get a response from NCsoft either. Those who can use a phone have tried, AND HAVE BEEN HUNG UP ON, by customer service, when this issue is brought up.
I'm going to have to give up and contact my credit card company and force a chargeback since I am beginning to doubt that NCsoft has any interest in keeping me as a customer.
I'm done here. -
Quote:I have no phone, nor speakers, nor microphone for my computer. There is little reason to have these things if you can't make use of them.If you have a microphone and speakers, you can sign up for a free Skype account. You can call toll-free numbers for free there, too. There's also Google Voice if you have an invite there.
Does anyone have any help on the original problem? Has their log in or customer service been down? Why am I not receiving any email from them?
Anyone? -

While the phone number is nice to see. I don't have a phone. I must be contacted by email. -

I have been trying since Tuesday of last week (February 2, 2010) to access my account at NCsoft with no success. It won't recognize my username and password. I have attempted to have my password sent to me but I have not yet received any email from NCsoft with this info.
I know that the password and username I'm using is correct, because I've had to enter it here, on the forums, to log in. I know that they are the same. I've obviously successfully logged in here. Has the NCsoft account page been down all this time?
I have checked my email regularly since this issue started. I have made sure that the email address I'm using is the right one. I have checked my "junk" folder. The email I use for notifications from the forums is the same I use for email from NCsoft. I have received email from NCsoft before, but none since I've tried to log in. -
Not mentioned here, but still a bug. Users of certain ATI graphics cards will find that their mouse cursor must be above and to the left of the Enhancement to grab it in either the Respec screen or Slot Enhancement screen.

I have a Radioactive Defender, currently at level 32. This hero predominately plays on a team. I've never been very good at choosing powers, costumes are my thing, so I'm not sure where I'm going with this guy.
Since I know I don't create good builds, I've been pretty much following DodgerTA's twink guide, but I don't think his is a good fit. I don't think I like the stealth/invisibility direction it seems to be going, and I would like to include Fallout, which his guide doesn't include.
Here is the build so far:

Myth: There are cartels of players, supported by the devs, to keep the prices on the consignment markets artificially high.
Truth: There are players who enjoy market PVP that keep the market prices dynamic. -
I have used some of the information from your guide to make my own Arch/Nrg blaster. While I used your guide's advice to "build my own", I relied on my own guesses to what to add for Set IOs. I more than understand that the game is balanced around SOs.
I would be curious, as I'm sure others would be, to see your IO builds. I'm sure that if you did post them, and you said in the post that these were not requirements for your guide, or better yet, posted them in, say, the blaster forums, rather than here in your guide, people would understand. -
I think what the OP is trying to do is just lock out flippers from making a profit from their action. In simple terms, items that are "dropped" by defeating an enemy are flagged as such and can be sold on the market for any price. Items that are traded, purchased on the market, or by merits or tickets, can be placed on the market but with a cap on the sell price.
A Luck Charm dropped from a CoT mage can be placed on the market for anywhere between 1 inf and 2,000,000,000 inf. Say you bought it from the market for the low price of 10,000 inf. You can now put it on the market, but are limited by the "new price cap" of, say, 250 inf.
Should this go into effect, no more profit from flipping. The effect on the rest of the market in this situation would be the big question that others would have to figure out. I'm just starting out as an ebil marketeer, and haven't really gotten that good at it yet.
I don't want to see this happen. I like flipping. -
I had always found the Server Status page, here to be quite helpful. Of late, however, when the Servers are down the page shows that they are up, but the date and time read: "Updated: 2009-06-24 13:05:02 UTC" instead of the correct date and time and the fact that the servers are down. Have we heard anything to reflect that the devs know of this problem and are attempting to fix it? Or has it slipped from their notice?

This is what happens when I go on a bender watching INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO. What with Castle caring and sharing on the "The Devs Hate..." thread, it got me wondering how BAB, Positron, pohsyb, and the other developers would answer the following (the mods can answer too!):

I've always wished I could be famous enough to be asked these questions. Since fame isn't coming to me any time soon, I'll answer them here.

Look here!
This is mine. Yes, I run with the netgraph open at all times. I have an ISP that is unreliable, I've had moments where I thought I was mezzed, but in actuality I was facing a massive lag spike as a precursor to being mapserved.
I haven't futzed around with the ingame fonts since I last reinstalled the game. I usually pick something with serifs that isn't to hard on the eyes. -

Well, it's now 18:51 EDT and I'm still getting "Connecting... #14", yet the link here:
http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/ser...er_status.html
says all servers are up (except for Training, which is labeled "Unknown".
I can't seem to connect to the Support Center either. "The server at help.ncsoft.com is taking too long to respond." -
I am not going to respond to the specifics of this case, but I will say this to the Genericized player. You MUST escalate this, and send a PM to the community reps on the board. I have my suspicions that more is going on here than just a Genericized character.
Today (Monday, May 25) is a holiday, while they would have some GM's working, these actions sound more like account hacks than what a GM would do. -

(I've started turning off XP every other mission, and deleting all drops from those, just so it won't look like I'm leveling too quickly.)

Wow. You must be a super stud of power levelling if you really think that that's necessary.
Either that or you're overreacting.

I have many friends from a former supergroup, when MA started, they made supergroup themed story arcs, highlighting their own characters origins, with fiction surrounding the formation of the supergroup itself. Not a farm by any definition. These friends, however, have been decimated with bans, both permanent and temporary. I know these folks, I know how they play, if what they were doing is a farm, then there is a great chance that other "regular" folks are doing so too. The devs refuse to define "exploitive" saying only "we'll know it when we see it. They didn't farm, but they were accused, and banned first, without any questions asked. Many are not bothering to re subscribe. Of a supergroup with 122 members, (that's members, not alts), there are only 26 left, all because of the overzealous ban stick.
I have about 19 alts, spread through the servers, I'm only up to the 39th month veteran badge and I have two lvl 50s. (one hero, one villain). Since the devs won't say exactly what exploitive behavior is, I have no way of knowing if I might cross that line. turing off XP and deleting drops is the only way I know to make sure I don't cross the invisible line. -

Defenders are not the "Priest, Shaman, Medic, etc" of City of Heroes. Get over it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you serious?, So when you see an emp AT or a Thermal, you dont see the similarities in both priest and Shaman like abilities?. Heal, team bufff, aoe heal, revive, etc. Now your just delusional or in denial. I'm guessing you never played a Shaman in not just WoW but in many other MMO's, even in D&D the Shaman healed...Do some research before you go posting just to post.
Where are these ego's coming from? no one cared what defenders where called 4 yrs ago, I smell some elitist players hitting CoH, but I digress, you dont like being called a healer then sour grapes for you friend, if your bothered by an IN GAME phrase then there really is no helping you. My best advice?...go out breath some fresh air, because if a phrase in an MMO bothers you that much I say you failed at life, life has way harder decisions than arguing over a phrase in a video game.
[/ QUOTE ]
My ego gets bruised when I play my TA/Arch Defender, get asked to join numerous teams, and then get dropped, either before we start, or after the first mission, because the other team members declare "We need a healer." Now, it hurts more when we finish the first mission and no one needed healing. But I let it go, a TA/Arch Defender can solo pretty well. Note that this kind of "add me then drop me" mentality, isn't seen so much at the higher levels. It seems that some folks learn that Defenders are useful even if they aren't "Healers." -

[ QUOTE ]
apparently the devs DO dislike farming, as the message from synapse seems to confirm, and as the post by Posi also stated. If they were just fixing a flaw that they accidentally put in no one would really be upset (well, someone might be, but the rest of us would ignore those that far out of touch from reality).
[/ QUOTE ]
no actually - the devs have no problem with players farming missions. legit farming. you want to reset that misison and do it again to farm the kills for a badge or drops? they dont mind at all.
so long as you arent exploiting some loop hole to gain an unfair advantage. using these particular mobs was that loophole. it wasnt farming - it was exploiting.
it's still possible to get stupid amounts of xp out of ma missions. it's also still possible to bridge and get even MORE stupid amounts of xp out of dev created missions. it's also possible for a solo stalker to plevel 7 people on newspaper mission completion bonuses alone. but these arent exploits if they were they would have been fixed years ago.
no. it's not the same thing. the devs arent outlawing farming. they are outlawing exploitive farming. getting twice the xp of a boss from a minion? exploit. making a mission where you hit a glowy for maximum ticket returns every 3-4 minutes over and over? exploitive. making a misison with nothing but lieutenants? not exploitive (since they give normal lieutenant xp and no matter how easy you make 'em, a crowd of lt's will destroy all but a few builds of a few classes)
[/ QUOTE ]
But there are some folks who have been hit with the ban stick even though they didn't use MA. The "Dev Crackdown" on farming isn't being limited to MA alone. (This doesn't include the "mistakes" of banning folks who were only level pact-ed with violators.)
I had published some missions with MA. I have deleted them all, because I have no way of knowing if someone on the other end might decide that my arcs could be used for farming. I asked, and was told, "we can't tell you that." Since I don't want to "accidentally" contribute to someone else's banning, and I don't want to be banned myself, I won't use MA. I will also be damn sure not to level too quickly. (I've started turning off XP every other mission, and deleting all drops from those, just so it won't look like I'm leveling too quickly.) -
I have a question that is not on the FAQ. It seems that this will be an expansion that we have to buy, much like how City of Villains was available for sale when it first came out. Will Rogue change from "You have to buy this to play it" to "We've decided to give it to everyone that already has COH" later on?
The reason I ask was that I purchased City of Villains the day before it was made available for free to owners of City of Heroes.
I felt very burned about that.
It still stings a little, too. -

I was just entering Atlas with my lvl 2 character, having just finished the tutorial. I was waiting for the countdown to clear when I received an email from an RMT spammer who happened to be standing right in front of me. I spamnoted the email and sent a petition. I noted the @global and shortly after this I noticed that the character in front of me, who had a random string of letters that was almost a name, changed not only his name, but his @global at the same time. (there was the notification of the @global change in chat as well). I noted this in a /petition. I then received another spam email from this character, that I spamnoted and petitioned. Shortly after this the character's name and @global changed again.
I thought that you could only change your @global once, and how is it that some spammer has the ability to change their character name without logging out and accessing the the change name feature?
I stayed for a while, just standing near the lvl 1 plain looking spammer and watched as he spammed, changed name and @global 4 more times! I worry that the spammers are doing more than just creating throw away accounts, I'm hoping they aren't hacking directly into the servers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Someone I know in real life just pointed out to me that what I saw, described above, may have been an illusion rather than someone hacking the game. Since the spammers don't bother with creating a costume, I may have seen more than one spammer logging in, spamming, changing their global once, and another spammer logging in just as the first logged out, spamming, changing their global once... etc.
Now that I think about what my friend said, it seems much more likely than going through the difficulty of hacking the game. And it is a lot less tinfoil hat than claiming that the devs are the spammers.
