12th level and I only have one contact

Thanks to the DFB trial, my new brute outleveled her Atlas Park contact before ever taking any missions from her. Now that contact is inactive, and visiting her does not cause her to pass me on to a new contact.

Consequently, my brute is 12th level and only has one contact (Montague Castanella). This makes mission selection extremely limited. What am I supposed to do in order to unlock the usual lineup of Steel Canyon and Skyway City contacts?

NOR-RAD - 50 Rad/Rad/Elec Defender - Nikki Stryker - 50 DM/SR/Weap Scrapper - Iron Marauder - 50 Eng/Eng/Pow Blaster
Lion of Might - 50 SS/Inv/Eng Tanker - Darling Nikkee - 50 (+3) StJ/WP/Eng Brute - Ice Giant Kurg - 36 Ice/Storm Controller

You may find this hard to believe but there was a time before Paper/Radio Missions.

Street sweeping bores the hell out of me. So did the old sewer runs. I guess I'm the only one that liked the illusion of variety I used to get from having 10 starting contacts in two zones instead of being forced to do the same starting mission arc over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over . . .

Keep doing the Midnighter stuff. Monty will introduce you to
another contact.

Yes, and those times sucked Even street sweeping is exciting in comparison to that drivel!

People that actually only wanted to Safe Guard/Mayhem temp powers (I'd long since stopped doing all the early contacts... done them way more than enough!)

Doing radio missions should open up more contacts.

You'd have to be some kind of masochist to try leveling on Old Positron back in the old days. That used to take hours.

As stated by others, you can do radio missions that will eventually open new contacts, you can also keep doing Montague's arc and he'll introduce you to someone, or you can use the Find Contact button in the Contact window to find a Contact.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Most PUGS could manage it in about 2. With a decent team it was around 1 hour to 90 mins and a great team would get it well below the hour mark.

Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr

This doens't make any sense at all. Spending hours running missions, or spending hours running a task force... I don't see the difference. If you have to spend the hours doing SOMETHING anyway, a taskforce seems the way to go.

Not counting farming or powerleveling, it takes the same amount of time to level either way. How does spending that time on a task force make it worse?

People who like to unlock more task forces?

I always find it amusing when people broadcast that they're forming an Ernesto Hess or a Katie Hannon Task Force... then say they need someone to start it.

No, you're not the only one. My motto has always been: Variety is good.

In a game that has always encouraged playing alts with all the customization available, making the progression too linear and removing variety is not a good thing.

For me, participation in Radio/Newspaper missions varies by character. I liked the mix of contacts and Radio missions because it added flexibility; it kept the game fresh because not all of my characters had to follow the exact same path.

You need to run Monty anyway to get Cim access, and after his first mission he will recommend a contact.

It'll even teleport you to said contact.

I haven't done any street sweeping since Issue 1 or 2 maybe. And that was in Boomtown with SG members. We rolled through everything in our path. It got old after a while.

I've never done the old sewer run.

I'm not a big fan of radio missions. I'd rather do missions from a contact that tell a story.

I preferred getting the initial contacts and running their missions for the stories. And then getting introduced to more contacts and running their missions for the stories. And contiuing that way through to 50.

I don't think any of my characters have followed the exact same contact chain, even among my several Technology characters. I always vary the contacts even if I have the same starting contact.

And I like running it that way, so I'll continue to do it that way.

And no, I haven't done the new sewer stuff either and don't plan to.

I recall time estimates being more like 4-5 hours back when I started playing (Issue 4/5).

I think you are both right. Before IO's, before Ouro and reward merits, 2 hours by a pug would have been the exception.

Enter IO's, reward merits and Ouro ... now speed running exemplar builds meant to do Posi and other low level content for those merits and completion times steadily dropped.

Yes, there were people who did the original origin contacts. I am one of those people. In addition to this, I can not stand scanner missions. I try to do everything I can to avoid scanner missions. I was one of those players who was overjoyed by the introduction of turning off XP because that meant I could do each and every contacts' mission in the order I met the contacts.

I wish there was a way of avoiding scanner missions now that the new (to me) introductory contacts have "gaps" in their story arcs.

I ran a new MM through the beginner Atlas Park contacts and I ended up with no contacts that way too. The new contact arc in AP does not give you new contacts at the end. I did skip Twinshot because I hate her and her friends.

There is a way to avoid doing them. Run the missions in The Hollows along with Twinshot's first arc (or just skip Twinshot as well). Once you get to Level 10 you will be introduced to Montague and run the Midnighter's Arc. Montague at some point will introduce you to a new contact and you can start the contact chain from there.

I haven't tested David Wincott to see if he will introduce you to any of the other level 5-10 contacts outside of The Hollows, but it is possible that you will get those from him as well.

If you are at least Level 5, use the Find Contacts button to get David Wincott added and you can use the Teleport to Contact feature from there to go right to him with no travel time.

Three, and just three, Police Scanner missions in Kings Row at level 5 will lead to a Safeguard which will reconnect one to the Legacy Arc contact chains.

You can talk to Wincott in the Hollows at level 5 for the Hollows arc chain.

You can talk to Tremblor in Faultline at level 15 for the Faultline arc chain.

It's only two scanner missions if you auto complete one of them.

I have to say, I miss the heck out of the old Origins contact chains. The Twinshot arc is really fun, but I'd rather have some other people to go to once in a while. =/

Not really a fan of Safeguard mishes either, so I wish there were more varied ways of opening up the contacts. Right now, it's pretty limited until you hit a certain level.

(Plus I seriously miss Galaxy. That was my all-time fav place to go for starting a new alt.)
