  1. ...you have to ask?

A curiosity, though. I noticed the other day that Lord_of_Time predates me here by a good couple of months. Why didn't he go for TimeLord (or Time_Lord, He Of The Underscores)? Or is this one of those "center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop" things?

But I have to pay 200 merits for a texture that can be used for - what? - two categories of leg wear? Outrageous! IMHO, it should cost the same as the chest items.
Personally, I'm willing to pay (almost) any price when it comes to quality crotch armor.
  3. At least, I think that's what it used to be called. Tankers acting like Scrappers, only with higher Def/Res and lower Dam. I haven't heard anything about it in some time, so I thought I'd inquire if it still existed and was considered doable in (mostly) solo PvE.

As I really really like the new animations for SS (though I have to wonder--who's the southpaw that did 'em?), along with the fx-less Inv, I opted for (guess what) a Inv/SS Tank. Haven't gotten real far as yet (only lvl 8, very casual player here), but am having fun.

I guess the overall question here is: Am I setting myself up for frustration and failure in the future? Yes, I know Inv has a huge Psi hole, and a fair number of enemies in the endgame have Psi...aside from that. Thoughts?

Additionally, I've gone through entire missions in the RWZ--both story arc missions and Borea-supplied--and come away with only the Merit they give gratis at Mission Complete. This is on my lvl 50 Mastermind, who routinely soloes Borea missions at +2/3 and x5. (And she's not a farm build--or if she is, it was completely by accident.)

I'll throw in my vote for reducing the costs on the costume pieces. It's my understanding that the Vanguard weapons are cheaper than the outfits. What's that tell you about Vanguard as an operation? "We want you to kill Rikti. That's all. You coming out alive is entirely optional." I could agree to 50-75 for smaller items, and up 150 for big ones like the cuirass & greaves. The overall price would come down considerably, while still providing sufficient grind for those ultra-[censored] times when you come out of a mission exactly 1 Merit richer.

One of the things I'd like to see as a promotional for Going Rogue is a quick World Tour with somebody like SuperChick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqW8uD6WuLI - Hero), Pillar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgvXRgszvI4 - Original Superman), or Thousand Foot Krutch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueOCAqCWgtw - Break the Silence). Something like Nintendo's Fusion tour, giving a couple of devs some face time with actual players, but also having something else for those who don't "care" about the game to come and see.
This. Very much this. I live in FL and am utterly unable to get away to a con on the West Coast. It simply is not an option. Hell, it wasn't an option when the economy was good.

"The squeaky wheel always gets the grease." It's called a truism because it's true. The people who have the free time and the $$ to go to Hero-Con and/or post 20/7 on the forums are the ones who the Devs listen to, and I'm sorry, but you people do NOT represent me. Having played that other superhero MMO, I am a proponent of linking global names to character names. In my opinion, holding the contrary view is little more than basic elitism. Anyway...there's my $0.02.

I used to check these on a regular basis...then the forum migration broke the [censored] out of them. They work now? 'Bout damn time.
  8. Just wondering. It's a bit hidden now. The first suspect, while labelled Dev Digest, is actually the Community Digest. Had to search a little deeper to find it. Once there, however, I discover it's every bit as functional as breasts on a boarhog. Sure, you can see which dev posted in which thread, and there's something that looks like a hotlink...but isn't. It's actually a link that leads to nowhere. What's the story here? Is it just the network at my workplace hosing me? Bad enough I lost my "View All" option for looking at multi-page threads, as well as an annoying inability to get rid of the PvP forums (don't read 'em & was able to permanently minimize them on the old forums) and the foreign language forums (should I ever have the burning need to practice my French, it's all right there)...now I can't even stalk BABs and Castle.

Also: minor gripe. Anyone else have difficulty logging in initially? I figured it out on my own (obviously), but it wasn't intuitive. Might've been nice to get a heads-up on how to log in, since the old username + password combo has evidently vaporized.

I grew up listening to Michael Jackson. Literally. The very first album I ever listened to that wasn't a read-along was "Thriller". It was on my father's turntable. I listened to the title track late at night--we'd just gotten home, and I was really looking forward to it, so I abandoned my parents to bring in...whatever it was they had to bring in, can't remember...and headed straight for the living room. I remember the song scared the tar out of me, especially Vincent Price's voiceover. The album really amazed me as a whole. "Bad" was the very first album I ever owned.

Yes, he made himself to look like a freak. Even I, a fan, made "when Michael Jackson was black" jokes. And yes, he made some profoundly questionable decisions in his personal life. All that aside, no one can deny his overwhelming talent and amazing level of skill. He truly was the King of Pop, and I miss him terribly. His music will live on, however--both in our popular culture, and in my heart. As I've already posted on another board: "The King of Pop is dead. Long live the King!"

Interesting sidenote: A player like myself, who has been playing for 58 months (per the vet rewards system) and who has been in exactly 1 TF during that entire period...if someone were to assure me that the thing autoexemped, I would believe them. I've no reason not to, after all--why disbelieve the person who claims to have done this before? I've never done it, so how am I to know?

Not sure what my purpose was here. Just wanted to put that out there, I guess. Not all players are stupid; some are merely ignorant. I simply happen to generally loathe TFs. *shrug*

How could they remove the chicken tug??? This completely screws up all of my fantastic RP arcs! Why do the devs hate RP??? I pay $15/month, I should be able to play the way I want! If this change is permanent, I may have to cancel my account! We'll see how long CoX lasts THEN!

Some1 else has suggested this, and I suggested they were crazy. It would make the moral compass idea rather pointless muchless its in general a bad idea. Im pretty sure it wont be set up like u suggested.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it makes perfect sense to me. A redeemed villain would need to prove him/herself to the populace (normal & metahuman) that they really are the hero they're claiming to be. Likewise the hero now in the Rogue Isles has a lot of distrust among the perps he used to smack around--on top of which, he needs to earn his bones. I won't say that I like it, per se...but I will say that it makes sense.
  14. I daresay there's been more patches released in the wake of I-14 than in any previous issue...and most of them seem to consist of "Yeah, y'know those mobs you used in your custom mission? Well...you can't use 'em anymore. So there." Though I am pleased to see that the mysterious base bug (never experienced it myself) got nipped in a timely fashion.
  15. Replying to the thread in general.

Personally, I think this is an /awesome/ idea, and most definitely has well-seeded roots in CoX's parent genre. Consider me /signed.

I do have an idea about what to do with heroes/villains who get too far from their "Mentor"...though I imagine many won't like it. Imagine the scenario: MacLaren, the infamous (Robotics/FF) mercenary has been reported as operating in Paragon City, under the careful monitoring gaze of the dazzling Diamond. Okay, authorities are wary but content...but wait! What's this? Diamond's been knocked unconscious by a Malta ambush--and now MacLaren's on the loose, unwatched and unguarded, inside Paragon City! *cut to commercial*

Again, we have the timer. "Warning! You have strayed too far from your 'mentor'! Get closer or face the consequences!" A, say, 10-minute timer starts ticking down. Maybe 5. At the end of that period, if the hero/villain hasn't rejoined forces with their "mentor", a series of ambushes comes looking for them. Use the Rikti Invasion coding, so that whatever level the player is, then it's precisely their level, whatever zone they're in. For villains, the PPD comes charging in. Heroes get Arachnos. Here's the kicker: No XP for these ambushes. They come for you, and keep coming for you, until you rejoin forces with your "mentor". Once you're back together, the ambush is cancelled, the PPD/Arachnos de-aggro and leave you in peace. Of course, if one of the ambushes takes you out, then your broken carcass is sent back to [place of origin]. "Too bad, so sad, MacLaren...you had your chance for redemption, but you [censored]ed it up. Better luck next time."
  16. Unlike my experience with the Midnight S'wits (see /that/ thread for that particular rant), Powerset Proliferation has been an overall positive thing. Rolled a fire/fire scrapper, and am actively enjoying it. Granted, she's only up to lvl 8 or 9, but seeing as I made that in a single play session & had close to zero downtime (save the nasty, nasty Lts that are being addressed in the upcoming patch), I'd say overall it was a win.
  17. Okay, I know I'm gonna get flamed over this, but hey...I can't sit silently. I just spent the last hour inside the Midnighter Club slowly coming to the realization that I'm spending $14.99/month to get pissed off. So, rather than just sit and stew in my own juices, I'm going to go on a rant here on the forums! (In other words, feel free to skip this post and go read something else. I personally feel that these are serious issues, but I imagine most will disagree.)

#1: Multiple doors leading to the same place
Okay, so the Club is one of those "extradimensional spaces", like Pocket D. No problem, I can accept that; it's "bigger on the inside". Fine. Then you head back into the labyrinth area, and there are multiple doors. All of them, for no reason I can discern, head back into the library. There's no indication on any of the doors about where they lead. Hell, for all I knew, the big ominous-looking door at the back of the library led directly into Cimerora.

#2: Easy access to other zones--psych!
As per the "instructions" given to me by the NPC standing just inside the Club as I entered, you can access other zones through the Midnighter Club. How one is supposed to accomplish that feat remains a mystery to me. Actually, that's not quite true: I managed to enter in Steel Canyon and leave into Croatoa. I didn't mean to. Didn't want to be in Croatoa. No effing idea why that door took me there. No rhyme, no reason, and no directional signs. At least in Pocket D, if you can't learn what the different signs are at the ends of the halls, there are "bouncers" there to tell you where you're headed. Here, notsomuch.

    #3: Ouroborous crystal--why?
I know, from metagame info, that the crystal /probably/ is the entrance to Cimerora. I don't know that for sure. The Aspect of the Pillar of Ice and Flame (too damn long--OB Crystal will do fine for our purposes here) in the Midnighter's Club looks just like the ones in Ouroborous...so does it do the same thing? It looks similar to the one you can place in your SG base--which serves for access to Flashback missions. So is this the same? Who knows? Again, no indication, no direction, nothing of value or use.

    #4: Speaking of Cimerora...why?
As per the subtitle. Assuming one heads to Cimerora, there seems to be lacking a reason as to why, precisely, we'd be going there. There's no one in the Midnighter's Club that directs you. Nobody says, hey, we could really use your help with this time-travel thing we've gotten ourselves into. A serious lack of not only motivation, but INFORMATION. Gorramit, TELL THE PLAYERS SOMETHING.

#5: Scavenger hunt, aka "Pixel Hunter" game
Okay...we'll start with the clues. The first few were quite good. I had a real sense of accomplishment when I'd figured out each one, not unlike back when I played "Myst". Then things got unravelled about when the clue said something about the smell of salty air, and shipping. They want me to go to Independence Port?!? No...supposedly, it's referring me to another book on another table. (This is according to the friend I was teamed with; I myself remain absolutely effing clueless.) The connection there is...what, precisely? After that, the clues continued to devolve, and I wound up just running from room to room, slowly passing my mouse over each tiny little effing item, essentially playing "Pixel Hunter" like it's 1988 all over again. I think I found maybe 8 items. I gave up. The comparison to Myst evaporated almost instantly; the puzzles in /that/ game were at least logical.

#6: We need your help...but we're certainly not advertising!
The only way I even KNEW about the Midnight Squad was from reading stuff on the website. I read the GMOTD, and that made reference to it. Where was I supposed to go to get the mission? I overheard someone else say the Universities. Huh, okay...where in the University? That should've been my first clue (see above, RE: "Pixel Hunter"). This Montague character is perfectly content to talk to you and offer you missions, but you've got to find him. No "go see so-and-so" from your contacts. Nothing pops up onscreen like with the Xmas & Valentine's Events. In short, either the players will find it...or they won't. And the overall feeling I'm left with is that the devs basically don't give a f*** whether anyone does any of it.

And really, that last sentence wraps up my experience with the Midnight Squad. I'll reiterate it here: The devs don't seem to give a flying f*** about whether anyone finds and/or experiences the Midnight Squad content. If they did, there would be signposts. Markers. Indicators of...well, ANYTHING. I'm just a month or 2 away from my 4-year veteran's badge. That's 46-47 months of continuous play in City of Heroes. What about those people newer to the game? What about the ones who don't know about this stuff? Are they just screwed? I'm assuming they must be, because if I hadn't been actively searching for this new content, I'd never have found it. And again, the overall feeling I'm left with is that nobody in charge gives a good god's damn.

DISCLAIMER: Math is not my strong point. However...assuming 100 Endurance, would 1.75% +Recovery not equal 1.75 End/sec?

I have to admit, I giggled a bit when I saw this announcement over on mmorpg.com. Last time I saw something about this, someone posted a thread announcing it, claiming to have seen the (what we now know to be) Blue Fairy. He even posted links to screenies. The thread was 3-4 pages long, with 99.999999998% of the posts dedicated to shooting down the OP, insisting he'd fabricated the whole damn thing somehow. Can't remember who the guy was, but I imagine he's feeling pretty damn justified right about now.

  20. Second Chances

We're a RP-Only SG here on Vic--still quite young, few members, but working on our base. We accept ONLY mature adults who are interested in quality roleplay--and in avoiding OOG/OOC BS drama. We do not engage in PvP, save perhaps consensual (and usually--go figure--RP related) combat in the Arena. We don't have any particular demands on our members--no required play frequency, no must-play-in-SG-mode (though it would be nice if you did ), no Prestige minimums or any of that nonsense. We DO enforce RP in the SG channel, and have established a global chat OOC channel for those *other* conversations.

There is something of a theme to our merry band; our motto is "We may not have begun as Heroes, but we have become them." Each and every one of us began life as something else--and not necessarily on the side of the angels. Something happened, though...whether it was mutant abilities emerging, suffering Council experimentation--one of us even had to die. It was coming through that life-shattering experience that changed us, turned our lives around...and gave us our "second chance".

Feel free to swing by our website:
    Second Chances

    In-Game Contacts are:
    @Timelord
    Funkster Mims
    Scarlet Specter

If you're interested, contact any of us & let us know! We'll team up with you, run some missions & RP with you; we want to make sure that the fit is correct for both parties, you AND us. We'd be happy to hear from you!
  21. Well hell, that pretty much does me in. I'd been trying to decide whether I wanted to get into CoV or not...and if this is in fact how it's gonna go down, then...count me out. Damnit, all I want is a freakin' apartment for my lone lil' scrapper who's drowning in Influence...ah, well. *sigh* Enjoy the Rogue Isles, kids...
  22. Drat, here I was hoping it was a UniqueDragon-related thing... *sigh*

And what's this about "hiring a knight"? What are you, Influence mercenaries? I can't imagine that flying...good luck to you, in any event...
  23. Sounds like a neat concept! I have a character on Virtue (Aether Stream, fire/ice blaster) who has a sorta-kinda similar issue...she doesn't speak, period. Can't, really...she has no real "body", so she doesn't breathe and therefore can't vibrate nonexistent vocal chords... *sigh* So, yeah, I went with the telepathic option. Just preface everything you wanna "say" with /e. Cheesy? Sure. And?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Have you ever had the Teleport other power? It is a power that can be interrupted very easily. I find it highly doubtful that this "hypothetical" situation you describe could ever happen. I sincerely doubt you got any debt at all from this situation you gave us. No "noob" would have the defense necessary to stand in a group of mobs and teleport an entire team to him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

*looks around, wonders if it's worth getting in the middle of this flame war...tentatively steps forward*

Actually, Recall Friend doesn't necessarily teleport your target directly to you. You can click on any member of your team and teleport them to anywhere else in your range. Say you're standing at the end of a hallway, and you see a bunch of mobs standing at the other end. If you've got enough range enhancers in your power (don't know why you would, but you could), you can teleport the hapless Controller who was hiding back at the mission entrance smack into the middle of the pack. Granted, the range on Recall Friend for pulling crap like this is fairly limited, but that's how it works. You activate the power, you clicky where you want your target to arrive, and BLAMMO!

*quickly ducks back out of the firefight, runs and hides*
  25. Easter isn't her real name (she thinks her real name sucks ), but a teasing nickname a former boyfriend gave her. She's relatively tall (6'1"-6'2"), and he'd never been with a woman who was that tall...he said she reminded him of the statues on Easter Island. The name stuck.

The original London Fog was a hero from before the Rikti War. He carried himself with honor during the war, and had been selected to join Omega Team for their crucial strike. Unfortunately, he suffered injuries in a minor skirmish shortly before the mission was to have launched, and was forced to sit it out. The shame and feeling of failure ate away at him, and just recently it became entirely too much to bear; his mystic medallion couldn't protect him from the .35 bullet when it was locked in a drawer. Now his son carries the mysterious amulet and bears the name London Fogg in the hopes of redeeming his father's good name.

The Dark Atlantean is a newcomer to Paragon City. She came here from the Atlantean outpost of Casterborous (located btwn Paragon City & Striga Isle) at the behest of her matrons; they wanted to see what had become of the world of man since their willful withdrawal from it. She draws her magickal powers from the Rift, an unusual trench not far from the capitol city of Atlantis; legend has it that this was once the canyon on the surface that held the entrance to Hades' Underworld. She sees herself as a sort of diplomatic envoy to the surface world, trying to make a good impression on the surface dwellers in preparation for some normalization of relations between the 2 powers.
