Need a little help fleshing out a character....

Made my first ALL role playing character today.
His name is Silent Scion, on Liberty server. Born deaf, dumb, and blind, his uncle attempted radical surgery on him using recovered Rikti lasers. The operation worked TOO well, as now every sound is like thunder, every light is blinding, and the sound of his own voice causes extreme pain, thus, he can never speak.. His nerve synapses are now firing at such an extreme rate, he is constantly covered in fire. His armor and gloves have devices in them to hyper-cool the area, but they also cause unwanted side effects...

Now on to the sticky part... If he never speaks, (which means I can never do a mission with him, he will be raised by street hunting alone... Fire/ice tanker, so no real problem there..) how do I explain how he levels up?
I know this is a piddly thing to worry about, but if I'm going to make an ALL roleplaying character, I've gotta go all out with him, hehe.
Any suggestions are appreciated..

As this is certainly a 'dark' character, I see no reason why you can't explain it as his condition getting worse and requiring increasingly powerful containment devices with correspondingly more devastating side effects.

I don't understand what your concern is if he's mute; he wouldn't explain how he levels.

Lol, was going to put info into bio, so if someone was trying to talk to me, hopefully they would scan bio, and see what I'm (not) talking about, hehe. After some consideration, I'm thinking I am going to have to have him gain some telepathic powers, as eventually, I will have to say something... can just preface it with "Silent Scion sends you a mental image of...." or something like that.

You could use the Squall syndrome; just use ellipsis (...) whenever someone wants you to talk.

I see two options. One, you do what the Dragobo (in RPG World comics) does, and hold up a sign for everything he says. A bind might be /e judge_1$$local "line" or something. That's if you want to be comical, imo.

You said he wears an armor. Is it hi-tech? Then the second option is install a mini-keyboard on his gauntlet (or use some other hi-tech device) and he types in anything he wants to say. It'll come out sounding robot-like.

Or you could use telepathy. It's simple in a way, but with all the mind controllers out there, it's too common. I'd thought I offer two different spins.

Our take, and since we live in Paragon, this is how our friend handles it. ((Sibling is RP, always))

We have a friend named Lady Almira, and she is also unable to speak. Since she lives with a group in a religious order, being completely unable to communicate is not an option. She has learned International Sign Language, which is fine if the others know it, but not if they are unschooled in this method. Luckily, she is magically gifted, and in dire straits can summon something akin to a video screen, where her "voice" can appear as writing. It actually has to do with control of elements and flouresing of water vapor in the air, but that's another story.

If Scion has any access to technology, several firms are now manufacturing systems that allow communication via retina, hand or other motions. portal and Crey have teamed up to offer special gloves for interfacing with a computer, which would allow for typing without seeing any keyboard and can be trained through use. Gestures equate to letters and characters. A simple scanning LED array or semi-flourescent screen similar to Xerox's PARC system could serve for getting the word to others, mounted on your chest or such.

We look forward to seeing you on the streets!

Another possibility is that his technology interfaces with his mind. His tech could say what his mind wants to say.

Sounds like a neat concept! I have a character on Virtue (Aether Stream, fire/ice blaster) who has a sorta-kinda similar issue...she doesn't speak, period. Can't, really...she has no real "body", so she doesn't breathe and therefore can't vibrate nonexistent vocal chords... *sigh* So, yeah, I went with the telepathic option. Just preface everything you wanna "say" with /e. Cheesy? Sure. And?
