Powerset Proliferation

While researching the energy strands that all super powered beings tap into, Dr. Brainstorm caused a massive release of energy that imbalanced the energy grid surrounding the powers nexus.

As a result, it appears that heroes and villains now have access to powers that previously were unavailable to them.

I guess this is the place to post this.

The greater portion of proliferated powersets seem to be all right. Some are fantastic, others are merely adequate, but only one is outright disappointing.

Based on the current state of the Stalker Archetype, I do not feel Electric Armor should have gone live. But it did, and that's been a strong indication in the past that we won't be seeing any more major changes to the powerset, if any, no matter how poorly the players find it to perform.

What, if anything, can you tell us about possible upcoming changes to the Stalker AT overall that may help make your decision to let Electric Armor go live make more sense? I'm really having a hard time "catching the vision" right now, but I want to give you guys some more time to let Stalker players know what's up before I officially join with the "Devs Hate Stalkers" crowd.

Eisenzahn is correct.

Electrical armor makes no sense for the stalker AT in its current form. Low hps and low defensive numbers mean this set offers nothing practical to us. Perhaps the intended AT changes need to happen before the set is worthwhile?

Note: The Scrapper version of Cremate (in Fiery Melee) doesn't take Melee Damage IO sets. It claims to take PBAoE IO sets instead. This makes no sense. It's not a PBAoE power. Cremate clearly defines itself as a single-target melee power.

So, how effective is this Fire/Fire Scrapper? I've just gotten my first villian to 50 and I've been working on my Bane Spider. I would like to here some feedback on the damage output and etc.

I've played one to 15 so far and had a lot of fun with it. Impressive damage output and the fire shield is light on the end drain. That may change next level when I get plasma shield, though. ^^;

So far I feel /thermal has been a fantastic addition to controllers.

My plant/thermal controller has the best survivability of any of my controller builds to date.

Unlike my experience with the Midnight S'wits (see /that/ thread for that particular rant), Powerset Proliferation has been an overall positive thing. Rolled a fire/fire scrapper, and am actively enjoying it. Granted, she's only up to lvl 8 or 9, but seeing as I made that in a single play session &amp; had close to zero downtime (save the nasty, nasty Lts that are being addressed in the upcoming patch), I'd say overall it was a win.

WARNING!!! INCOMING RANT!!!

I still say that Tanks should have gotten Elec Armor and Melee and Stalkers should have gotten the Ice Sets. Both of which would have made MUCH more sense than what they ended up getting. The ONLY reason I can see Stalkers getting what they got was thwe Mu Mastery patron pool, which I feel is a rather poor reason.. Dark for Tankers made no sense at all... &gt;_&lt;;;;

Ugh. I can't see the point in giving "Ice anything" to Stalkers, unless the Devs find a way to limit it strictly to the PvE side.

As it stands now, Stalkers in PvP are absurdly overpowered; Ice sets would just give them yet another palette of hold/slow abilities to augment their already ridiculous (and yet, recently improved!) Stealth/Hide abilities.

Stalkers in PvP are silly enough as it is.

I feel that powerset proliferation has been a brilliant move thus far by the devs. I find Psi/ for blasters and cold/ for defenders to have been the best ported sets so far. Devs, in the future, please keep proliferating more sets--it makes the game more fun and provides pvp with more variety (something that has been missing for a long time). Also, I will name my firstborn after Positron if you just port em/ over to scrappers. Thanks

I'd prefer seeing new powers and not as much prolif. ATs should be somewhat unique. Causes us to want to try all of them

Dark makes no sense for Tankers but Electric does? Electric Armor is the second weakest melee armor set in the game lol. Dark kicks its butt at survivability.

Even though I love totally new powersets, I agree with those that say, that if the sole reason to play an AT is based on the powerset then something is wrong with the way the game is designed. The draw of an AT should be the way the AT is designed. Meaning that if you want alot of defense then chose a tank, want high melee damage chose a scrapper.

Yea ok!! Sorry I play a Stalker in PvP and Run Several forms of Stealth and am Constantly seen by Blasters at Sniper range because of their perception... You may want to add Blasters to that "Overpowered in PvP List"


You know the Furryfiance they now have and being able to attack while Mezzed... with all their Stackable damage buffs... not overpowered in the least

Here's the thing I want to know: With power prolieration, will there be new Epic Power Pools for Heroes? I could see the following being added in I13:

Mass Hypnisis

Some things make sense being proliferated from hero to villain and vise versa, but I don't like to see too much of it becaue I think there should be some uniqueness to the sides.
For example I thought thermal should have stayed a villain unique set because heroes already have empathy and we got nothing in require.

Giving storms to masterminds was an excellent idea. A very good set for them.

Earth control was a poor choice to give to dominators IMO without taking the time to modify domination so all it;s powers that it properly benefits from it.

Electrical assault has been the second coming for dominator assaults, but it's TOO good. It has overnight rendered energy assault obsolete in the minds of most dominators because they now have a better secondary to pair thematically with gravity.

What choice of powers and enhancements will allow a blaster to see a stalker at sniper range (A stalker running around at the stealth cap)?

I know there are a couple powers that will improve perception for a blaster, and I know there is at least one IO that will do the same. But seriously now, a blaster at sniper range seeing a stealth-capped stalker?

The problem is that with any AT, the different powersets aren't always designed the same. Look at controllers for example. Illusion gets more pets, but has fewer direct damage attacks (and no immobilize*), while Gravity has tons of single target attacks but just the one pet. I've played both, and they play very differently even though they are both controllers.

Also, sometimes new powersets help stir players imagination and gives them new ideas for new characters. New characters keep player interest up, which keeps them playing longer.

* I mentioned immobilize because I noticed that when soloing EB's, I could usually immobilize the a lot easier (vs trying to hold them), which made Containment's bonus damage kick in. Illusions lack of an immobilize power makes soloing some EB's more difficult (or at least take longer).
