Live Feedback: Issue 12: Powerset Proliferation
[ QUOTE ]
Here's the thing I want to know: With power prolieration, will there be new Epic Power Pools for Heroes? I could see the following being added in I13:
Blaster: Mental Mastery
Mass Hypnisis
Mind Over Body
Indomitable Will
Telekinesis
Controller: Verdant Mastery
Impale*
Armor of Vines (Personal Toggle: Resist Smash Lethal and Toxic)
Thorntrops*
Fling Thorns*
*= As per Thorny Assault
Defender: Frost Mastery
Chilling Embrace
Ice Sword
Frozen Armor
Hibernate
Scrapper: Pyre Mastery (As per Tanker)
Tanker: Darkness Mastery (As per Scrapper)
Just thought I'd ask/suggest. Take it as you will.
[/ QUOTE ]
oh man Armor of vines should be kind of like granite armor except it would make you look like an ent!!! thatwouldbesocoolomg.
and blaster 'Mental Mastery' with those powers would be absolutely perfect!!!
I'd like to see corruptors get poison.
If heroes get more epic options then something will have to be done about villian patron limitations.

[/ QUOTE ]*sighs* This has already been answered. Villains will be able to respec out of their patron into another patron path in i13 according to Positron.
Ice Fenders FTW!
I don't run the "real numbers," but I know a lot of people do. that's their thing, and that's great. It's just not how *I* play the game. However, I am curious to know... what is it about electric armor that's bad for stalkers? I know it's a damage resistance-based set set as opposed to the usual defense-based sets stalkers get. Is that it, or is there more to it, or what?
Edit: My little suggestion for future Proliferation... I want my Archery/Trick Arrow Corruptor!!!1!!eleven!!!!

Short version:
- Pure resistance set on an AT that works better with defense
- No safety net - no mez, no heal, no escape button. If stuck in a position that where the resistance doesn't cut it, there's absolutely zero to fall back on.
- Heavily hurt by the low stalker HP and resistance caps. (Elec works fine on brutes, sure. But brutes have a 90% resistance cap and several hundred more HP.)
- Poor utility - all it really has is endurance recovery, but that doesn't come until far too late to consider skipping Stamina. Sure, there's LR, but SR has Quickness and is better in pretty much every way.
- Does nothing that another stalker set doesn't already do better.
Thanks for the info, Tempest. I certainly see and acknowledge your points. Perhaps for stalkers, they should have made the set defense-based instead of resistance-based. That would still fit in with the "lightning" motif of the set. Even better, IMO.
On the other hand, I do think it's a cool looking set for stalkers (or brutes). And for me anyway, sometimes that's what matters the most when making a new character.
Richard
is there a chance of getting martial arts for brutes?
PHAT - 50 mastermind (bots/dark)
Sgt. Major - 45 corr (ar/traps)
DIRT MONKEY - 30 brute (SS/fire)
Longbow Reject - 50 crab
chiken hawk - 10 brute (ss/wp)
all on virtue
Kungfu Bunny - scrapper (ma/regen) freedom
Respecing PPPs is well and good, but APPs are still light years ahead of them in power, and in completing/complimenting character concepts. And making the PPPs more powerful is probably off the table now since they can be respeced. The whole point behind non-respecability was that they were supposedly more powerful (what a laugh that turned out to be).
However, I'll reserve judgment until we actually see what modifications there will be on the PPP front aside from respecs in I13. I13, the lucky Issue lol.

Super Reflexes: the Golden Fox of power sets!
WARNING: I bold names.
would it be possible of giving us a 'Lance/Staff' powerset kinda like the Reman Centurians with stabs and javelin tosses and arc-slashes?
that would be so freaking awesome. of course, left handed PLEASE so we can use shields with it. and lots of customization options too.
thanks!

Ugh. I can't see the point in giving "Ice anything" to Stalkers, unless the Devs find a way to limit it strictly to the PvE side.
As it stands now, Stalkers in PvP are absurdly overpowered; Ice sets would just give them yet another palette of hold/slow abilities to augment their already ridiculous (and yet, recently improved!) Stealth/Hide abilities.
Stalkers in PvP are silly enough as it is.

Yea ok!! Sorry I play a Stalker in PvP and Run Several forms of Stealth and am Constantly seen by Blasters at Sniper range because of their perception... You may want to add Blasters to that "Overpowered in PvP List"
You know the Furryfiance they now have and being able to attack while Mezzed... with all their Stackable damage buffs... not overpowered in the least

If the stalker is at -per cap and the blaster is at +per cap, the max range he can be seen is 10 ft. Hardly sniper range.

I would like to see scrappers get energy melee. Its only fair because brutes, stalkers and tanks have it. Port Broadsword to tanks as well. Its such a tank set.
Excuse me for barging in this thread but I thought the Devs said they were trying to prolif the melee sets unto themselves and the ranged sets unto themselves. That said, I would LOVE a ice stalker if not for thematic reasons only. I also would adore Ice Brutes; Electric and Broadsword Tanks; Every Element for scrappers; Dark Blasters, Controllers, Dominators; if possible some type of Martial art secondary for Blasters/Dominators may be a weapon based secondary too?..please?;Poison and Archery/Trick arrow for Corruptors.....umm...Man...brain pleading no more...crap That is all...I think

Never going to happen. The -Recharge component of ice powers breaks Brutes' Fury meters. They were actually around for a little while in CoV beta, but were removed because they effectively nerfed everything that makes a Brute a Brute.
I have to agree, it'd be pretty sweet for a Stalker though.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
Probably never going to happen for Dominators (unless they create a Throwing Weapons ranged powerset first to combine it with), and not terribly likely for Blasters. Even if they did port it to Blasters, it'd be a highly underperforming set due to the lack of status effects. (It has what, 1 Stun and a couple Knock-Downs?)
And "weapon-based" secondaries would require whole new powersets to be added to the game as well, which doesn't qualify as proliferation. None of the existing weapons really perform the way that current Blaster secondaries do.
And I hate to burst your bubble, but the developers recently said that there was not likely to be any further Powerset Proliferation until Issue 15 (and even that hasn't been guaranteed).
I'm holding out for Energy Melee for Scrappers, myself. My Katana/SR works better conceptually as EM/Willpower.
(Most people assume that Brutes and Tanks will get Broadswords in the next round of proliferation, to go along with the Shields coming in Issue 13.)
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

I am the only one who thinks elec/ for scrappers? Really?
And from what I hear on the brute forum, claws is more likely. But that's hardly definitive. I have no idea for tankers.

And with this game finally having some competition coming up, who knows if they're even going to be around when I15 is due (late 2009/2010). Apparently since Powerset Proliferation failed to bring in a million new customers, they don't think it's worth wasting any more time on
Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

You mean lolChampions? Yeah..... thats not gonna kill CoX.
Personal feelings aside even, its half console game/half MMO and I very much doubt that it will have a whole lot in common with CoX other than the fact that they both have superheroes.
And I will mention that I think your estimate of i15 release is a tad on the conservative side. I'm hoping that with i14 coming early next year, they're not going to have a 9+ month wait between issues.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'll agree with the second (concepts,) the first... it depends. There are some powers in the APP that are frankly overpowered, and the devs know about them. Honestly, when's the last time you heard anyone complaining about a Controller having Hurl, or a Blaster having Rise of the Phoenix? It's alwys Focused Accuracy or PFF, and Castle knows this full well. (And most of those complaints come from PVP.)
As far as the PPPs? Having them respeccable is a good start, but other things need to be looked at. I don't know of any Brute that will complain about having AOE immobilizes or a ranged attack to pick off that runer. A Stalker with a hold and a quick ranged attack? Sign me up. Sheilds for squishies? Yes, please - and that, at least, is common between the two as far as filling in gaps.
Other things, though, need to be looked at, such as the pets (some are useful, some not - especially for stalkers, and are they worth a power pick or should they be an inherent "gimme?" I'm for the second, honestly, though it means no pet set slotting.) Stalkers get an eight second snipe - which even in PVE is ridiculously long. Bring it down to be equal with other snipes.
So, "More powerful" can be taken a few different ways. Making some of the powers more *useful* would, in a way, make them "more powerful."
I do agree, FWIW, that Redside should get Patron-less APPs, for those who want to round out a character without tying thnem to Arachnos (or for whom, say, Eleental powers fit better, or more weapons, or whatnot.) And I'd like to see something similar to PPPs introduced heroside, for those who'd really *like* to have States, Synapse, Posi or Psyche as a mentor.

You dont really need a Throwing Weapons powerset right away either. I just have a couple of concepts which mesh great with Martial artist and Doms/Blasters. And by weapon secondaries, I meant Swords or Claws. They could switch the sets around and add more status effects to the weapons and MA, replacing the 1st tier with a immob. And I am aware that i14 will probaly not have Prolif. Just call it a sneaking suspicion

Yeah, "lolChampions", and also "lolDCUO", and lolanything else that proves innovative, dynamic, and fun. While I don't think any one of them in particular is going to "kill" CoH, I think each will chip away at noticeable chunks of the subscriber base. Once NCSoft starts seeing any decrease in profit margins, how long can it be before they panic and start forcing layoffs once again, dropping game development back to "life support" levels, or maybe even less?
Add that to what has become viewed as "acceptable" delays in development timetables, and it's certainly possible that "early 2009" will translate to mid-june, which could leave I15 coming sometime in 2010, if they bother with it at all.
Sure, it might not be as bad as all that, but it nobody can say it won't (at least nobody who isn't bound by contractual agreements not to discuss certain things before marketing approves the topic).

Most MMOs are failures. City of Heroes is still here and still doing well 4.5 years in.
City of Heroes had an interesting thing happen, too, this quarter - it made more money than the last quarter. Revenues were up 6%. That was still down 10% from the previous year... but they were up. That bodes well for CoH development, because it means NCSoft is seeing ROI on their expenditures. It looks like CoH is taking in about $1.6M/month right now, give or take some fudge because the South Korean won has been fluctuating a lot. That's enough to be pretty darn profitable. Even in Northern California, I think they could field a staff of 40, an office, and a server farm of 110 boxes or so and still be carrying 25% of that to the bottom line.
But most importantly, if revenues are rising, they will continue to put money into it... not only because it increases revenues, but because it will stretch that revenue stream further when they do stop developing. There may be revitalized plans for another retail box, someone optioned the IP for a movie, etc.
With things like Architect on the horizon, it's definitely to early to predict where CoH goes from here. But those other MMOs still have to prove themselves. And I hope they're great, because I'd be glad to have more great games to choose from, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
im looking forward to Stone/Earth support/meelee for blasters and doms, and electric control for trollers and doms. and maybe an elec buff set that gives shields like elec brutes have mixed with a few elec effects like field and hold or stun or two.
and thorns or spines or even a customizeable weapon for the blasters and doms support/meelee. lots of potential.
im gettin excited just thinkin about it.
