Quote:I actually have other games that will take the place of this one. One you mentioned is one that I still play on and off and it is called LOTRO. I like it because it is a fun game and you can earn turbine points to unlock the rest of the content. I spent some money though to raise myself to premium status. For example, the people I usually played CoH with.
I'm looking to CO as my CoH replacement. One of my requirements for "the next game" was super sidekicking. CO has that.
One of the others is going for LotRO. He has no interest in CO*. I still play WoW and don't want another level and gear segregated game, so I have little interest in (as a group) playing LotRO. Another has basically shown no interest in any MMOs.
We played CoH almost nightly but now that the unifying force of CoH is gone there's not one replacement that has an automatic consensus.
*CO does a very good job of driving off first timers, especially CoHers, with its crippled character creator as the first thing you experience followed by the dreadful tutorial with no travel power to suppress that goofy run animation and if there was something in the store you wanted to start with, tough luck, get someone to 10, then do what you wanted. My sales pitch of "it really sucks until you've got your first level 6 and it mostly stops sucking once you've got your first ten" wasn't effective. If I hadn't heard elsewhere that it did indeed have super sidekicking, I'd never have touched it again after my first exposure.
Next up is a game that I still play on and off like the above, it is one that I took a temporary vacation from this game. It is called Hellgate:Global, I took a vacation from this game while it was known as Hellgate:London. T3Fun has brought the game back to the US and it is still fun for me to play from time to time.
I have also played CO in the past, I was in the closed beta test for that game. In CO closed beta I did more PvP than I have in any game. The reason was because I was a tester and I wanted to see if you could level your character playing PvP just like the devs promised and yes you can do it. But when the game shipped they made sure that leveling in PvP would not be faster than PvE. I know they did that because they wanted the players to be playing the PvE portion of the game that they worked hard to create.
No telling at this point if I will ever go back with them though, it is entirely possible but not likely.
Of late I have been giving DCUO a try. Sure you do not have the costume customization that you have here in this game only three colors. But it makes up for it in the customization of the powers that you choose in your chosen power set, travel mode, and iconic powers.
At first glance I thought that the game would not turn out as good as it did for me. I like it for now. It will never truly replace this great game.
Also I will be very leery if NCsoft came to their senses and wanted to bring City of Heroes back to live again. I would not likely return to this game, due to three factors that are important to me.
One, is Paragon Studios the ones developing it?
Two, how many of the old team do they have working on it?
Three, if all of the team or most of the team is new to the game, how many Korean developers are on the team?
Now I know that the last line makes it look like I could be prejudice. But hear me out, I am not saying it because of prejudice. It is because I believe that NCsoft hates this game because it is a game that was originally developed by an American developer and they were just a publisher. An American team of developers that took over the development of this game. Made this game more successful than their own titles that they self published and had to close like Tabula Rasa.
btw on top of all of that what would keep them from doing the same thing all over again if they did bring City of Heroes back to life again. -
In my case like many others here that have given up any hope of keeping this game alive. I have not only given up on this game, but also on NCsoft. I do not trust them anymore and will not play any games that have their name on them ever again. I think that the bone headed moves that they made, which is more than just closing this game down, will bit them in the butt really hard.
I have no doubt that there are many players here that will not have anything to do with NCsoft again like myself. This is the best way to tell them how stupid of a move it is to shut down this game along with all of the other bone headed moves that they have been making.
If they think that all of the players here will flock to their other games, fat chance on that, a snowball has more chances of surviving in hell before that would happen. Sure you might have a few that would migrate to their other titles but not all. What is worse than that is that some of us here were playing some of those other titles.
My lack of trust comes from the fact that from this day forward I will always believe that those in charge hate this game. But like any smart company they will say otherwise. They will give a tired old company line that they did everything in their power to save it. I do not believe that line from NCsoft.
Now if they meant that they allowed Paragon Studios to do everything in their power to save it then yes I do believe that the guys and girls in Paragon Studios would've tried anything to save this game. But still when did they let them start. What when they announced the shutdown. Smart move, why not let Paragon have some heads up on the matter and give them maybe as much time as a year or more.
I will always believe that they hate this game because it is a casual MMO that was developed by an American developer Cryptic (Jack Emmert) did far better than their own self developed and self published titles that were suppose to be casual MMO's. They no doubt were waiting for the time when they felt that they could shut down this game where it would not cost them hardly any money in the process. And they would have other games that would still give them more than enough to make up for the loss of this game.
I was one person that did not pre-order Guild Wars 2. So that bone headed move means that I will not be buying that game. I have already sent in an email to Arenanet telling them of my concern for them as a company. I firmly believe if Blade and Soul does really well here. And they find a way to get Aion, Lineage 2 and maybe another of their own personal games that they have planned where it is a game that is developed by Koreans. They will then shutdown Guild Wars 2 and maybe even Wildstar that is if it sees the light of day.
What hurts them more is that I would've tried Aion, Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, and maybe even Wildstar. Of the four I could easily say that I would've kept playing GW2 and maybe Blade and Soul if it really does live up to its expectations. But now I will not be touching any of those games at all. Even though I know that I do not have to spend any more on Blade and Soul. Just the thought of having an NCsoft game on any computer after the shutdown of this game will just remind me of how sad I am. I would be a waste of hard drive space that I could be using to play other games. -
Quote:I say hurt them in the worst way possible. That is through their wallets, do not give NCsoft another penny of your money. Show them how dumb they are for making some of the dumbest moves a business can make. I mean more than just shutting this game down. A game that was making them some money in the hopes that Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, and Wildstar three unproven potential winners would cover their recent losses.I keep sporadically checking Hosun Lee's, Melissa Bianco's and Matt Miller's twitters, but nothing yet.
I suspect they're trying to pull something together for a new project although who knows....but if they are, it may take them months longer, even into next year sometime, to fork over an announcement of any sort....
You know, after all this time, I still want to stab the NCSoft powers that be in their collective eye.... My anger over this situation has not resided in the least.
I can't wait until Blade & Soul is ready to launch: I'm going to continually spam-bomb every article and forum post about it that I can possibly get my hands on so that every potential player knows what NCSoft is really like to deal with.
Where they would cover the loss of severance pay that they had to pay out and not for this game. The 6 million dollars that was lost in the second quarter due to a dip in the sales of the market in Aion, which btw was sparked by the increase in prices in the cash shop. $50+ for a mount, are they daydreaming, the majority of players in WoW that I know of will not pay $25 for the sparkling pony let alone twice that amount.
Then paying 97 million for Ntreev just to have a company that produces causal MMO's. News flash you could've save that money and kept this game going. IMO this game is one of the most casual MMO's in existence. You can easily log on and make progress toward level cap. Log on and make progress to any amount of influence that you want. Log on and make progress toward getting set IO's or even purple IO's. The same is true for incarnate abilities.
How much more casual did were they looking for? Where they looking for a game where you log in and on the first day only spending 5 hours at most you already would have a max level character with max influence and at least all of your single origin enhancements. A game where the best enhancements and any reward merits, would just be given to you on a silver platter. A casual game with zero challenge.
It would be like having a golf game and your character is instantly 10 times plus better than the real Tiger Woods. Hitting hole in ones on every shot. If that is the case then they will learn quickly that a game without any challenge will not last long. It will not have anyone that will keep playing it. Players need a challenge to overcome. A wall that at first might look like you cannot climb it. It is overcoming those challenges that makes a game fun for all. -
Quote:There is on MMO that has no game time card on the market at all AFAIK and that is a new game called "The Secret World" By Funcom. There has never been a game time card for that game since it launched back in July of this year. So no game time card is not a perfect indicator here for this game. Heck they could've had a digital game time cards and put them in the market place if they wanted to.Maybe. Then it sounds like we already know the why and sounds like they already told us the why.
"In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCsoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios."
The why seemed to be, according to the first announcement, for realignment of company focus and publishing support and also according to what you said you already know.
What more was there that needed to be explained dealing with why they shutdown the game? Dont think they specifically mentioned labor costs but as you, I do recall seeing that posting at one point in time somewhere too. With those two reasons alone or hell even with the alignment one, there is nothing more that NCSoft needs to explain. They can choose to explain more if they see fit but it is not needed. Dont seem like anything more needs to be explained from NCSoft at this point about the why. It's not like they shutdown the game immediately, more like 90 day notice. Although the workers probably got shocked more than anything but it happens everyday in US companies too. Sometimes the boss calls a morning meeting, say that the company has decided to cut back and a particualr department's service is no longer needed and everyone clear their deask and go home and their last check will be in the mail. While at teh same time the company is building a call center in India to replace those workers it just laid off that day. Sudden for Paragon Studio workers, yes, but nothing unusual in the job market in today's US. No matter of when they made the announcement whether if it was July 31st 2011 or Nov. 1st 2012, it would still be just as sudden, no more no less, than when they made the announcement on Aug 31st. Only difference would have been the amount of days left to play. They gave us about 90. Hey, it could of been 30 or less days. Only way it wouldnt have been sudden if they released some announcement prior that said, that if COX dont bring in more money or players then we will be forced to shut down. Which usually when that announcement happens, the end result is still the same just a bit more drawn out. In this case since it's a company alignment decision, then it is possible that they told us as soon as possible after the decision was made of what would entail in that alignment.
While players never thought about the slipping player population overall, maybe they should have been concerned.
Also came across this post about someone asking about the sudden lack of game cards in his area. Man, hindsight is a **** in that case. But at the time it probably just looked as if many players stopped buying game cards and did so online to buy the time. Even here, about month prior to the announcement it was hard to find game cards for the game but there sure as hell was plenty of WoW cards hanging about.
Also there are games that are free to play but have a vip sub model (both pay to play and free to play) Those game never have a game time card at all. You have that to consider as well. So no game time card does not necessarily mean that the game will be shutting down.
Now a population decline that is something that is hard to ignore. But how much of a decline is what will speak volumes. Also if it was a decline in population then what is so bad about telling the players.
Heads up protectors of Paragon City, we have noticed that there has been a decline in the number of protectors in this city. A decline in players results in a decline in paying subs and the money that is coming into the Paragon Market. Add to it an increase in the labor cost to make new content for this game. And a decision to shift the company's focus in publishing. Effective as of today all development of this game will cease and we will be shutting down this game. More news to follow.
Giving us the news in this fashion would not have been as bad as the bits and pieces that we got. Some of those bits and pieces are things that we had to look for ourselves. -
Evil_Legacy
Look I know what I am talking about when I mentioned Ntreev and the rest after it under the financial portion of my comment. I learned abouot it when I learned about NCsoft losing money on the second quarter. Those are facts and not fiction.
Also I remember NCsoft themselves saying that it is due to rising cost of labor and a change in direction is why this game is shutting down.
This closure was a big surprise to all of the players as well as to the devs themselves. This was not something where the majority of players were saying hey this game is losing players. It is old and probably not making as much money for them anymore. Where it would be no surprise to the players. Instead it turned out to be a big surprise to many.
They have lost my trust, something that they could've kept if they told us everthing at the moment of the announcement of closing this game. I mean take a look at what the devs have said, it does not matter why or how we got here. I am sure that everyone would like to know how and why we have gotten to this point. The real truth, no lies no rumors.
I was using the comment of how long this game lasted and the fact that it survived losing one third of it's playerbase to WoW. At it's peak it had 180,000 players. Then not long after WoW it went down to 120,000 players and stayed there for a long time. That makes it a phenom in it's own right.
This is not putting me off of MMO's. News flash I am playing D3 the majority of the time. When I need a break from the action I play either LOTRO or Hellgate: Global.
I just do not trust NCsoft anymore and will not support them. The only way that would change is if they can show me that they are making good strong and sound financial decisions. That will take a long time to earn back the lost trust.
Now if when they made the announcement of the shutdown they actually gave us the full information on why the shut down is happening. The it would've been better for them. No instead they have decided to give just a little bit of information and say accept it like pablo's dog. Sorry I am not buying it.
I truly believe that NCsoft has a chip on it's shoulder and did not like the fact that City of Heroes done better over the years than all of their failed MMO's could ever do. Sure it was not a WoW success, but it did not have to be in order to last 8+ years. -
Quote:So you have already bought what the company told you as to their reason for shutting down this game. Sorry but I do not buy that load of BS.
I really dont blame them for turning that one down. It looks like the author has already condemned them and looking for more fuel for the fire. It's like the author already chosen sides as the Save COH side is right and NCSoft is wrong. It's like a Democrat getting an invite to to a Republican's Democrat bashing session (and vice versa). Or like a meat packing plant getting invited to do an interview from PETA and or the Vegan socity. It smells like a set up. It was smart for them to ignore that one. Maybe one that doesnt look like a reporter on the side of, or at least make it less obvious, that the reporter is already chosen a side. Maybe a little less bias and they might respond. But at this rate, I think the Save the COH thing have antagonized them so much that anything that look remotely like that organization they want nothing to do with and have no plans on answering or even acknowledging any thing they request until they feel they want to. Well when you declare war on a corporation, cant expect them to welcome the cause and consider going along with it happily. That's like cursing out a neighbor because you think his grass is too long and wondering why he dont even speak to you anymore or invite you anywhere or let alone allow to use his lawn mower even though he isnt using it.
1. From a financial standpoint shutting down this game does not make any sense. Why, because this game has to be making money for them. Why would the devs be allowed to work on issue 24 for so long if NCsoft knew it would be shutting down this game. If the game was losing a lot of money players would've known it for a long time. The devs would've known as well. So the shutdown would not have been a surprise.
Next they decide to spend a lot of money in severance pay. They spend around 97 million buying Ntreev. Simply because they wanted a company that could make a successful casual MMO (more on this point later). Something they could not do themselves.
Add to it the fact that they are spending money not only marketing games like Blade and Soul in South Korea and eventually to other countries. But they are also spending money working on a new game called Wildstar which will be handled by Carbine Studios IIRC.
So they are throwing away a proven money maker for two unproven potential successful MMO's. That IMO is a bad business move.
Now they say that are doing it to cut cost of labor. Okay then I would agree with that if the cost of labor for developing an MMO in the US compared South Korea. But if it is not cheaper then it is even crazier to close a cheaper US company compared to a South Korean Company.
This game has went for over eight years. It survived the launch of WoW and went on to add many good features and everyone including myself has had a blast playing this game.
2. I forgot where I read this but there are some conspiracy theories and the one that seem to make the most sense out of them, but still I do not buy it.
That NCsoft is shutting down this game to drive the players to their other titles. News flash NCsoft, there are no doubt many players here that are already playing some of the other titles. When you take a player that is part of one community and through them out like yesterdays garbage and expect them to be loyal NCsoft fan and jump to the other games he is playing and be a hardcore player. NCsoft must be crazy if they think that.
Also how are they possibly going to get anyone here that is not already playing their other titles (except maybe Guild Wars 2) to even bother trying out their games.
Personally I wanted to try out other games like Aion, Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, and maybe even Wildstar. But now I would not touch those games due to the poor financial decisions that NCsoft has been making. Also I would not touch them because they treated this community like yesterday's garbage.
3. They say that they are sorry and have tried everything to keep the doors open. You and others might believe that load of BS. But I never will, they could've taken that Ntreev money and used it to keep the doors open for a good while longer. Also they could've decided to drop one of the titles that they are working on to keep the doors open.
4. They have said that they bought Ntreev because they wanted to have a company that has successful casual MMOs. Hello City of Heroes is a successful casual MMO. How much more casual can you get than this game.
It is real hard to gimp your character. The missions are real easy to do. You never fail a mission. Even if you are new to video games in general, in time you would learn from your mistakes. Even the end game is not tough at all. It does not take the greatest degree of skill to defeat the incarnate trials. As long as you have some incarnate powers and have them leveled up you can contribute. You never have to be optimal to make a contribution.
5. My take is that NCsoft does not like this game because it was not their baby, their brain child. No it was developed by an American Developer Cryptic Studios.
If I were Arenanet or Carbine I would be looking for a new publisher to become a subsidiary to that company. Because I believe that NCsoft would only keep Guild Wars 2 and maybe even allow Wildstar see the light of day. As long as they can make enough money to keep the doors open of their other games like Aion, Lineage 2 and Blade and Soul. Along with Ntreev games.
If any of NCsoft's personal titles show that they can stand on their own. Then NCsoft will shutdown Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar.
In closing have fun, until we meet again in a different game (currently Diablo 3 mostly). Or by some miracle someone actually saves this game. Have fun all. -
I agree with you and share your pain.
-
With the way that NCsoft has treated us, with what I have learned about other games such as Aion losing money. Their need to give huge severance pay to employee's that they were laying off. NCsoft putting more resources to unproven projects such as Blade and Soul here in the States and using resources to develop Wildstar. But they do not want to go with a game that was making some money for them. I now serious question their business sense.
If they are throwing away this game and it is making good money for them. Then I would say that they are dumb because they could've canned Aion and that would've helped them out a lot. So since I have my doubts about their business since I will not touch another NCsoft product ever again. Now if they change their mind and show me that they have some good business sense. Then I would gladly start playing some of their games again.
Just think I was seriously considering trying GW2 sometime in the future. But now I will not touch it. What is next will they get rid of a proven money maker like Lineage 2, when that game according to a news article. Sorry do not remember what article it was. But it said that it is one of the biggest money makers.
So I say farewell to all until we meet in another non NCsoft title. -
I want to tell you that years ago, about three to six months after NCSoft added PayPal I started using them to pay for my sub. It went fine for a while then for some strange reason, that neither NCSoft or PayPal could determine. My payment would go through like normal. But about a couple of weeks later the payment that went to NCSoft boomeranged right back into my PayPal account. It happened more than once, that almost caused me to get perma banned for non payment.
So I have been paying with game time cards since then. But now I see that I will probably have to use prepaid debit cards to add time to my account.
I have never trusted PayPal for that or any other payment again. -
Thanks for the info it worked out just fine. I have everything unlocked now. The only thing that is strange is that I cannot get on the test server. It gives me a strange error message. But I have contacted support about it. Just waiting to hear from them.
-
I am a VIP player, that actually thought that I had until 5/31/12 to add in more game time by adding a game time card. I have been a VIP for a long while using game time cards. I like buying them because I get a chance to talk to some of my favorite people that work at my local game shop that I buy them from.
So here is the deal, my account was downgraded to premium on 5/30/12. Then on 5/31/12 I bought and added a game time card. So I figure that all characters would be unlocked. That has not happened. All characters have been unlocked except for the ones on Protector, my main server, Infinity, Triumph, and Pinnacle. I have the right number of slots on those servers open but with no characters on them. But my characters that are on them are locked. I will use my main server to further explain my situation.
I have used three of my global slots to unlock extra slots on Protector. So that server shows 0/15 when I used the game time card. Global slot left are 5, but there are six characters on that server. Plus there are more on other servers so I could not possibly use my global slots to unlock them all. Also if I did that then there would be more character slots unlocked on those servers than what I originally intended. I only use my global slots if I feel they are needed.
What do I do to unlock those characters on Protector and the rest of the servers, where I do not have any more slots unlocked on them than I currently have. I really thought that all characters would be unlocked when I added a game time card. -
I am having this problem as well. It tells us to contact customer support. Since it seems to happen right after the new issue came out. Now that I know that I am not the only one, this could mean that there is a problem with the Test Server.

One of my questions concerning getting a notice of the well by doing the weekly strike target gave me some useful advice that I to take full advantage of. So I need to ask the following.
What active chat channels do I need to join that would help out not only my main (level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper) but all of my characters on this server? -
Thanks for the answers all. I had assumed the answers to the questions on the market would be what I got. But since my dad hated to guess and assume things, I am the same way. That is why I needed to ask to be certain. I would be the same if I were working at the same job as some of you. Those first few weeks I would be a ton of questions.
So again thank you for you help in both areas. Have fun all. -
I am asking questions concerning the Paragon Market. I have looked at it on VIP Beta it has 6800pp (paragon points). The Global Training Room has 0pp, and the live has 1540pp. Also I noticed that on the Global Training Room and the VIP beta does not have the beast master set unlocked like the live does.
1. Does this mean that I need to unlock the beast master set on each server (VIP Beta, and Global Training Room)?
2. Does this mean that since the point total is different that the Paragon Markets for each set of servers is separate and different? Meaning that what I purchase on either the Global Training Room or the VIP Beta will not effect the Paragon Points on the live servers.
I can guess or assume the answers. But I would rather get answers instead of doing that.
Incarnate: My main is a level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper has all of available incarnate slots unlocked and filled with a power of my choice. I do not have any level shifts. The closest to getting a level shift is the Alpha slot. But I need a notice of the well in order to do that. So here are my questions. I am on the Protector server. If I had to I could change servers, because the SG that I am in is basically dead. Most of the players have moved on and quit playing, from what I am told.
1. When is the best time to do the weekly strike target? I ask this because as far as I know this is the fastest way of getting a notice of the well. I have tried queuing up using the LFG system but was not able to get into the weekly strike target.
2. Does anyone these days do the weakly strike target? I ask because I think that many already have all alpha slots maxed. So they do not need anything from the weekly strike target.
3. Do I have to change servers in order to get the job done?
4. What trials outside of the first two (have done them already) can I take part in. Where I actually would be able to contribute to the league? I do not want to be a dead weight that cannot do a single thing. I like earning what I get in a game. I am willing to fight for it. -
I have a GeForce 6150 SE nforce 430 graphics card, my system is an emachine bought from walmart, a dual core 3.1 GH. I have tried using the updated drivers from Nvidia's website. But If I try using anything other than driver 197.45. In fact that number of driver was something that one of the GM's gave me when I reported the issue.
The game will crash when I open the costume change menu, and at times it will freeze up. The crashes I am experiencing are similar to what has happened in the past. Where players were having problems with Nvidia and Radeon up to date drivers.
What I want to know is how do you update an integrated driver. Is there a different website or a different part of the same Nvidia website that will have the correct drivers for that integrated graphics card? If it is not a graphics problem then do I need to make some changes in the properties of the NCSoft launcher? Are their things that I need to check mark , in the compatibility section in order to play City of Heroes/Villains with the new driver? -
I like your guide Memphis, but for me it was a little different. I can truly focus on one character till completion. So when I chose to get a level 50, I focused on that one character till I got a level 50. No doubt I will do the same with the rest when I want to take them to level 50.
I have learned a very important point from my brother that also plays the same MMO's I do. He says when you have a purpose or goal for your character, then it is alot harder to get bored and stop playing. I have found this to be true for me. -
To me real world advertisements should not have a place in a game. It breaks immersion to those that are immersion type players. Also some players play games to get away from real life.
They do not spend their day going to work, come home here the raido, watch tv, go online. Seeing all the ads connected to those things, then when they want a little escape from the real world, they play a game and bam more advertising.
More so if it like a free to play game that I played years ago called 9 Dragons, IIRC the top portion of the game screen is an add banner that changes constantly. I played during the year that Obama was elected. So it had ads that said vote for John McCain. Just think if you had that in this game even if it is on the free accounts.
So in clusionsion I would have to say no to the OP's idea. -
I have an nvidia geoforce 6150SE nforce 430 integrated video card. I originally had the latest drivers which was 266.58 IIRC. But when issue 20 came out this game started crashing like crazy. After some research here on the forums and talking things over with the great GM's. I was told that I needed to use an older driver to handle the problem.
That fix worked, so here is the question that I have today. Did either City of Heroes have a patch or nvidia have a patch where those that have those drivers will no longer have any issues with the game? In time I would like to use the new drivers but I am afraid to because then City of Heroes may become unplayable again. Also I noticed that nvidia has a new driver 275.33. Does anyone with this driver have any problems with playing this game? -
The other good thing about the new tutorial is this. In real life if any of us got super powers there is no way we could say how we would turn out. Some would be heroes and others villians.
In the comics when we see superheroes like Superman, he would be like running into a level 20+ in this game. Someone that has already made that choice. So in the comic book world where we are the ones that make the characters. Then it would make sense that they would neither be hero or villain, but the choice of either is how the character uses their powers. -
I like the new tutorial, the use of getting players involved by doing instead of reading. I like the new comic type of intro. But still this does not answer some very good questions that I have, concerning this tutorial and the praetoria tutorial. Here are the questions. I know that I posted this in another thread, I would not mind a red name coming by and giving me an answer. Do I expect it, no but it would be nice. I can speculate all day, but having the facts is much better.
1.) Is this tutorial the only tutorial in the game when City of Heroes Freedom launches?
2.) Does this mean that the devs are shelving the praetoria tutorial?
3.) If the praetoria tutorial no longer exists after City of Heroes Freedom, then does that mean that no one will be able to enter praetoria at all?
4.) Does this mean that no one will be able to be a loyalist or chose resistance and play
through the entire praetoria story arc?
5.) Does this mean that the only thing that Going Rogue was for is just to improve the graphics for the main game?
6.) Does this mean that the only thing that Going Rogue was for is to make the incarnate system possible?
7.) Or will there be a choice of tutorials if you have Going Rogue active on your account, where a pop up would say Primal (Galaxy City) or Praetorian?
You guys/gals of the dev team worked so hard to make a great expansion when you added praetoria to throw it all away. The zones were done well, the story is good, so please keep it. Please do not throw that away.
I have no doubt that there are those that have played through it and love it. So throwing it away is a waste, that means you have wasted your time and hard work which would be a shame. I would hate to see all of that hard work thrown away.
I would hate it if the only reason Going Rogue exists if for the new graphics and the incarnate system. -
Quote:I was really hoping that we would have a choice between Primal and Praetoria. Because it would be bad for them to throw away the Praetoria the starting zone, the devs worked really hard on the Going Rogue expansion. So throwing away the starting zone would seem silly. I was asking because it is something that is always possible. Even though it would be highly unlikely.1. I'm certain it's select from two options - roll a Primal character or roll a Praetoria character.
2. The name freeing purge only applies to really low level characters, not all characters. Good name hoarding is already a possibility - just get the alt to higher than 10 I believe. It's never been addressed but I would guess that if the name purges are still run it will sweep through the ranks of those playing for free as if they were inactive - after all, if you haven't gotten an alt to the purge proof level in 90 days you obviously don't want it. -
Quote:Thanks Forbin for the heads up on that quote.http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=221
The devs have made it quite clear that they have no plans on running the name purge any time soon.

Quote:I see I have forgotten some things about the name purge. You are. You're probably thinking about the new VIP server--there are no names already taken on it, because it doesn't exist yet.
-----
As Aett mentioned, the script is not on all the time, it has to be run manually (and it has been years since the last time it was run). The number of names that were freed up was determined to be insignificant compared to what the playerbase expected to be released.
As BruteSquad mentioned, there's a level cap on the name purge--though I'm pretty sure it's actually level 6 and not 10--so any character above that cap, no matter how long they've been inactive, cannot have their name removed. (Unless, of course, they're genericked for a violation of the EULA... but that's just going to throw the name in the list of banned names, not available ones.)
It also can't pull names away from active accounts. For example, even though I've only played "Helena Handbasket" on Guardian or whatever server I made her on a couple times, and 4+ years ago at that, no one can ever take the name away from me. (By the way: if anybody specifically wants the name, PM me and I'll delete the character.) -
There are some questions that I have concerning these topics.
This first question is for those that have either purchased going rogue, which would make them premium or a VIP with going rouge opened.
Starting zone: When freedom launches there will be a new starting zone that is co-op. You will be making moral choices, similar to starting in praetoria, via the going rogue expansion. So here is the question. When issue 21 and freedom hits live servers.
When you hit create a character to make a new character will you have two choices as far as which tutorial to play? Meaning will there be a pop up that says Galaxy City, Praetorian?
Or does this change mean that the praetorian starting zones and arcs will no longer be available to players after freedom and issue 21 launches on live?
This next question is something that is for all players of all different types.
This has to do with character names. In the past, and even now IIRC. If your account is inactive for 90 days all of your character names on your account will go back into the available pool. This was something that NCSoft used to stop players from hording names. Having a good name really matters.
With freedom your account is never considered inactive, that means that players could horde the really good names forever. Having level one alts that they never intend on playing just to horde the name. So how will NCSoft prevent this when freedom and issue 21 launches?
