To anyone who thinks there will be or wants a new "Spy" archetype... please, elaborate, what would this archetype actually DO?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking about that too. We already have Banes, Stalkers, /Devices Blasters...
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe they sneak around peeking at stuff through binoculars? Taking notes?
And occassionally calling in airstrikes or raids.
It would be an interesting twist.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just speculating, but possibly a new kind of mission altogether. There's been past chatter that the mission types are a bit stodgy. I'd envision new spy missions as akin to the old Thief video game, where you do a lot through subterfuge, rather than just invis run/teleport to a goal and take it (or kill/arrest it)
There's could also be counter-intelligence missions, toppling defense, sowing discord, perhaps something that affects the status of a zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be cool.
There's some precedent - we had the introduction of the Mayhems, and then the Safeguard equivalent, and PvP zones have the zonebuff content.
I'm torn between optimism and 'realism'. I know it's possible they might give us some totally new content - new style missions, new play, etc - but I'm tempering it with a view that most of what gets released is flavor.
Whoa, For them to put the time, energy and Money into an expansion after Champions Online and DC Univers release it has to pretty damn impressive. Will there be a big update to the graphics in current content or will they be using the same graphics we see today in cox? I am all for this since cox is such a great game. I have a question that is not on the FAQ. It seems that this will be an expansion that we have to buy, much like how City of Villains was available for sale when it first came out. Will Rogue change from "You have to buy this to play it" to "We've decided to give it to everyone that already has COH" later on?
The reason I ask was that I purchased City of Villains the day before it was made available for free to owners of City of Heroes.
I felt very burned about that.
It still stings a little, too.

For how much, and which version?
You still got a month's play time out of it as well.

Follow you back and forth from your dayjob badge sites. Call you contantly via cellphone emote, offer you a pact, and such. Oh wait, that's a jilted ex not a spy.

How do I sign up for the beta testing? This is just too awesome! I can hardly wait!!!
What about if you own a supergroup?

CoV when released had 2 different versions and a Pre-order. The Preorder was 10 bucks, the Standard Edition was $50 (minus the preorder if you had one) and the Collector's Edition was $80 (again, minus the preorder if you had one).
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong. CoV did have a pre-order bonus, obtained when you put down an initial amount towards a version (regular or CE) of the game. It did not entitle you to any discounts.
When I got mine, I paid five bucks towards the regular edition at Software Etc. (Owned by Gamestop). It was the receipt that was important.

I like the fact that the City of franchise is getting more and more exposure in the public eye. It took a bit for NCSoft's investment to start bearing visible fruit, but now we should see some really good things coming our way.
Please stick with "When it's ready" for your release date as much as possible. Box expansions should be as finished as possible...even more so than a download Issue.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
Hmm... I hope this doesn't stomp on Praetorian Grey's backstory too much... If she can still live up to her name, she's not going soft or going rogue... She's going home, with a vengeance...
Fifth Feign is probably gonna get redeemed, and both of my Kheldians will fall (yes, the Peacebringer too, there's a reason).
All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.
But memories remain, And that is beautiful.

So let's see, you're saying: "CoV when released had 2 different versions and a Pre-order. The Preorder was 10 bucks, the Standard Edition was $50 (minus the preorder if you had one) and the Collector's Edition was $80 (again, minus the preorder if you had one)."
I didn't go into the gory details of the preorder system because it was immaterial to the discussion. If you bought a preorder, thye amount you paid for the preorder was prepaid to the copy you bought. Yes, it had to be at the same store, but that was neither here nor there to the point I was making.
Damn it! A week ago I finished an AE arc called Malaise's Protoge where heroes could go rogue. Rob a Jewelery store, break out of jail, fight other custom villains in the Rogue Isles, fight the Vindicators in the future, then fight the Freedom Phalanx in a graveyard. "50 levels of villainy in 5 missions." Sorry a little harmless self promotion there but this sounds fantastic. If the expansion is one we have to buy I'm going to preorder it asap.
I'm reminded of Socrates when he said, "I drank what?"
Mr. Shane- lvl 50 eng/eng blaster (virtue)
Abatu- lvl 50 rad/therm corrupter (freedom)
Demon Outlaw- lvl 50 fire/eng blaster (virtue)
<qr>
Hmm, looks interesting. Issue 16 or Issue 17? Hmm. Don't know if any of my characters will switch. I'll have to think about it. Though would they allow the Khelds or VEAT ATs to switch?
Though, I would like to watch the trailer. I let it download and everything while I went out for a walk. Then I hit play after it finished and it started downloading again. Thanks. Guess I won't get to see it after all.

The Spy AT, from what i hear, will have their own Story Arcs from 1-50. unfortunately, only the 1-10 Arcs are in Paragon and the Rogue Isles, and the rest take place in other parts of the world and are, thus, not in the game. Upon reaching 50, you can "Go Rogue" like everyone else, but that results in you being "burned" and being sent to Miami, which is also not oint he game, where your mother lives and you have to take jobs from normal, everyday folks to make ends meet while trying to find out who burned you. On the up side, you get to hang out with a former IRA operative who you were once involved with and Bruce Campbell. Also, on the up side (or down side) it always turns out your were burned by Frasier's Dad.
Holy Cow!
This is what caught my eye from this page: :
"In addition to this new game altering dynamic, new neutral starting zones allow new players to select their Archetype (class) first, and then let their actions determine their hero, villain or rogue identities. At the high levels, rewards for these moral choices will be found in new PVP, PVE and Co-op zones. Accomplishments will lead to rewards that will significantly distinguish level 50 characters from one another. One such reward is the Universal Enhancement Slots. Ten Universal Enhancement Slots are available to be earned in the expansion, and each one has the potential of adding significant power to the character, essentially bringing them to a hypothetical "Level 60" once they have earned all ten slots."
So, in essence, they are raising the lvl cap to 60 now? I thought everyone was in agreement that that wasn't a good idea? Hmmmm.
I think some more clarification is required....
This is incredible news all around tho. I'll be glad to wipe the floor with my MM doing hero missions now.
ftw!
37 lvl 50s: 3 Brutes, 2 Stalkers, 2 Tankers, 7 Masterminds, 2 Scrappers, 3 Blasters, 3 Controllers, 3 Corruptors, Peacebringer, 2 SoA (Crab, Bane), 3 Defenders, Widow, 3 Dominators, Warshade, Fortunata
Who did the voice of Statesman and Tyrant? That VA sounds familiar.

New PvP, PvE, and Co-Op Zones!!!!!
Power Customization!!!!!
Oh yeah, you can switch sides too and go rogue.

Am I going crazy or did I really see in the FAQs that it is going to be an open beta?
[/ QUOTE ]
That was a cheeky answer. One they give often. Because all issues/expansions have open beta. But that doesn't preclude a closed beta first. And being most likely a pay-for expansion, they'll probably be closed beta for pre-orders before the final open beta.

I am curious to who the Banner artist is. They are quite good!
[/ QUOTE ]
They have 3 conceptual artists:
Carolina Tello Alvarado
Nate Van [censored]
David Nakayama
And two environmental artists:
Ryan Roth
Don Pham
Of course, a lot of character design is done by JayLove who has a new unnamed costuming partner.
So... don't know. But it's one of the above, or, more likely, group project going back and forth between artists' sketches, programming, modeling, and back to the artists for the 2D render.

I like the philosophical side, are you a Hero for upholding the laws of an unjust ruler? or are you a Hero by breaking the laws and fighting against an unjust ruler?
I am envisioning a city with open PvP or at least PvP flags ...
an open beta is nice but the servers will crash ... lol
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah but is that ACTUALLY states or is it Tyrant?
If it is, then who does a boy-scout, rescue-a-kitten-from-a-tree, help-an-old-lady-across-the-street kind of hero pick in a fight between a fascist dictator and a supervillian?
I love the idea, and it will be a lot of fun, but for one thing If I wanted moral ambiguity I would just spend all my time in the real world.
Now if you can fight AGAINST the power on the side you are on that would be interesting (stay blue-side and be a subversive or go red-side and try to fight for justice). Of course you would always be hunted. Secret Identities would be very useful.

So our current characters will be able to switch sides in their universe, and Praetoria will be available for new characters to start off neutral?
Just about pee'd my pants when I saw the trailer. Quite well done to whip of enthusiasm, I can't wait!
This is more of a teaser trailer than a trailer I'd say.
That new City Skyline in the background looks very intriguing.

As long as it's OPTIONAL upgrades. I already have to run the game on pretty low settings, if I suddenly found myself totally unable to play I'd not be a happy camper.

If they upgraded the graphics they would have upgraded the engine that CoH runs on as well and I'm not entirely techy but if they have a better engine on their end it means less lag on our end.

So...is this a box expansion like CoV was, or another Issue (as in normal expansion) that comes along in the game updates?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming a boxed expansion since the FAQ mentions being able to pre-order it in the future.
Also, awesome stuff!
[/ QUOTE ]
They don't do professional trailers like this one very often, most are usually demo record style. So I maybe this Going Rogue Issue is something special. That new city skyline in the video looks very intriguing.

QR: Dear god, people. *hits head against wall* The FAQ doesn't tell us anything new, and we still have people asking questions like, "Switching sides? I don't understand what this means?" and "So this is all free, right?"
Sit on your hands, read the press release, think, and THEN post.
