I may have missed it but has anyone asked whether or not Epics will be able to "go rogue"?

[/ QUOTE ]

OMG I hope so, I totally already have planned for my Warshade to go villain.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why wouldn't they be able to? That would be kinda stupid. Everyone can side switch except for Epics.

What I'd like to know is for the Arachnos if you switch sides then you would technically no longer be allined with that faction so why would you have their uniform? Can an Arachnos gone good change their first costume slot? Or are they going to play it off as "I'm just keeping it for old times sake" maybe have some kind of story arch where you're required to wear it as a hero because the Arachnos aren't aware you've left yet and they want you to go undercover and find out as much as you can before you turn in your regignation.

OK so I was thinking, that while playing on Co-Op teams it's going to kinda hard to tell who's villain and who's hero once Going Rouge comes out.

As it stands the easy method is looking at the Archetype symbols but what if there was another way.

I was thinking changeing the coloring of said Archetype symbols so that there are 3 different variations of each symbol. The symbols we currently have would become Neutral or Rouge.

For heroes a blue tint would be added to the original coloring. This would turn Scrappers from yellow to green. Defenders on the other hand who are allready Blue would use white in place of blue makeing them a brighter color of blue.

For villains a red tint would be added to the original coloring. For a Stalker this could make that cross hairs red. For something like a Corrupter that's allready red black could be used insted to simply make it a darker red.

This would allow people to easily tell who their allys and enemys are.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um, if you're playing co-op why does it matter?

Since SoAs get a super secret 6th costume slot already, why should they have to give up their Arachnos uniform?

Arachnos Soldiers already get an extra costume slot to accomodate the armor. Why would they get yet another? If you don't want to wear your uniform anymore, don't. You aren't losing anything.

Nope, always been there. It's just kind of tricky to access it since it doesn't come up in the costume UI. I'm sure it's intentional because the devs gave SoAs an extra mission to earn a costume slot while they didn't take any of the others away. They must have known what the result would be. If not, they don't seem in a hurry to fix it.

It would only matter IF you're playing Co-Op unless they plan on changeing the aformentioned "Sorry can't give you insperations, you're an enemy."

Allso think they really need to change the search functions so you can find team mates in Co-Op who aren't on the same side as you. I normally just invite someone from broadcast who is on the oppiste aligment and have them be my co-leader or if someone I know is on that works even better.

I'm fairly sertain that if it was that way by design the costume would show in the UI. Why allow an extra costume that can't be accessed? Actully that doesn't even make sence.

If it's not in the UI I'm preddy sure they didn't bother to make an emote for it either. (meaning there's no /cc 5 the numbers are 0-4)

What super secret 6th slot? I want to know about this super secret 6th slot!

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not a sixth slot. The first slot is for the Arachnos uniform and has Arachnos-pieces that non-SoA's don't have access to. They get a "free" second slot at lvl 10 (IIRC), then they can earn the lvl 30 and lvl 40 slots as normal, and the Halloween slot if they turn in the salvage.

No sixth slot, just one slot for the uni, and 4 "normal" slots.

Oh, blast it...

[ QUOTE ]
An Arachnos Soldier's original costume slot requires the use of unique, AT-specific accessories that give it a distinct appearance. To balance this, Soldiers can earn their second costume slot at level 10. They can earn level 20, 30, and 40 costumes as per usual, and can also turn in Halloween Event salvage, making six costume slots available. However, the only way to access the sixth slot is through /cc 5, and it cannot be edited at the tailor, so it will exist only as a copy of what slot 2 was when the costume was added.

Soldier-specific accessories cannot be added to any costume except the first slot.

[/ QUOTE ]

So there are six slots... but the sixth can't be modified at the tailor because it's just a copy of slot 2 when the "extra" slot was added.

This sounds like a bug to me and not a feature.

I checked through this thread, and didn't see the stuff from that NCSoft marketing survey posted here, so here it is again:

"City of Heroes and City of Villains let players create unique
characters and set forth as virtuous Heroes or evil Villains in a MMO
comic book inspired universe. This expansion to the City of Heroes/
Villains universe blurs the line between good and evil, between hero
and villain. The Going Rogue system is a new game dynamic for City of
Heroes and City of Villains that allows players to alter the morality
of their characters, eventually opening up the opportunity to turn
their Hero into a Villain or vice versa.

By visiting different contacts in the game, players can start the
process of "moving their moral compass" towards being a hero or a
villain. Making this choice dramatically alters the gameplay for the
player, as they will now be able to bring an Archetype (class) that
was previously only available to players of City of Heroes into City
of Villains, and vice versa. Once a character has switched sides, they
can continue down the path they have chosen, or use the opportunity to
subvert their new allies through a series of espionage-style missions.

In addition to this new game altering dynamic, new neutral starting
zones allow new players to select their Archetype (class) first, and
then let their actions determine their hero, villain or rogue
identities. At the high levels, rewards for these moral choices will
be found in new PVP, PVE and Co-op zones. Accomplishments will lead to
rewards that will significantly distinguish level 50 characters from
one another. One such reward is the Universal Enhancement Slots. Ten
Universal Enhancement Slots are available to be earned in the
expansion, and each one has the potential of adding significant power
to the character, essentially bringing them to a hypothetical "Level
60" once they have earned all ten slots.

For existing City of Heroes and City of Villains players who have
previously reached the level cap of 50, the Expansion will take them
into outer space where they can now find challenges that test their
powers and skills to the max. On an alien space station that
mysteriously appears over Earth, Heroes and Villains will race to
unlock the secrets of the place and be the first to reap the rewards
that are only available to the best of the best.

A brand new Spy Archetype (class), power sets and player costume
options will lead to a massive amount of new character and gameplay
options. And a significantly enhanced character creator system will
now allow characters to customize the effects (looks and colors) of
their super powered attacks and defenses.

Here is some other things that were mentioned in the survey...

1.) New high level Space Station Zones (PVE, PVP, & Co-op)
2.) Characters that do not wish to change sides are rewarded by
becoming exemplary heroes or villains, and earning rewards not
available any other way
3.) Heroes and villains who go to the other side can also act as
Double-Agents
4.) Character Creator 2.0 includes Powers Customization, allowing
players to customize not only the character, but also the actual look
of its powers
5.) Players undertake missions that define their character's morality
and steer them in a more heroic or villainous direction
6.) By switching sides (going from good to bad or bad to good),
players can access content "on the other side" (heroes can experience
villain zones and content, and villains can experience hero zones and
content)
7.) Completely new low-level player experience/zones for new
characters in which new characters do not begin a hero or villain,
rather become one or the other through early gameplay
8.) New Spy Archetype, Power Sets & Costumes
9.) Universal Enhancement Slots - at level 50, these enhance powers to
the character, essentially bringing them to a hypothetical "Level 60"
once they have earned all ten slots"

Of course, it's only a survey, and the fact that Power Customization is listed as a GR feature when it's now going to be a separate Issue shows that nothing on the list can be guaranteed to be in GR - but the survey did get most of the MA details pretty much right, so I think most of what's on this list will appear in the game in some form, even if it's not all in GR.

I'd suggest no one take that bet. IIRC, it was Jack Emmitt (aka. Statesman) that indicated there was going to be a third, neutral, CoX expansion, back when Cryptic Studios still had a stake here. He was also the one that mentioned "City of Spies" being a working title.

What I think happened was that with the intellectual property in sort of a weird quasi-dual-ownership, neither party (NCSoft or Cryptic Studios) wanted to stuff a bunch (more) money into the franchise after City of Villains. This was also around the time period when the development team for CoX dropped into the low teens.

As soon as things shook out after NCSoft took full control of the property, there's been some of the most amazing and revolutionary work I've seen in the MMO field, counting both what's out and what's being talked about.

Money is what I think was holding that innovation back.

The FAQ link posted by Niviene and the links to the stuff from San Diego aren't working for me. Have they expired? Or am i getting teased by Firefox again?

My Google-Fu is still revealing naught but speculation and educated guesswork. If there are links to any places where something a little more concrete can be found, would anyone mind posting them? Maybe a lovely Redname might even sticky something, just to stop us driving ourselves insane as fast as we are.

Too late in some cases, I guess, but better late....
