Discussion: Tuesday's Patch Delayed

I think that's missing the point - would it really be so hard to email people ingame in advance to notify of non-maintaince schedules? I don't think so.
[/ QUOTE ]And I doubt people would pay attention to it to begin with. I check my email almost every other day.
[/ QUOTE ]whether you doubt people would check or not is irrelavant - at least the information is there - and easy to access
Whatever the bug is, it must be a major one if a reversion is required. Otherwise, they'd leave it in-place and fix it with the next patch.
Some may think it odd that a large bug slipped through on a patch that's been on Test for two weeks. However, I know from my own experience that many "testers" have been recovering from Issue 12 beta burnout, so the Test population has probably been pretty light. Additionally, if it's a base, market, global chat, or SG issue, those are even harder to test, since those aren't persistent with a character copied over from Live.
Still, I'm curious as to what could have been so major a reversion was required...

Wait? Admitting they rushed a patch through? and now have to ..revert to a previous issue??
ZOMG! the sky is falling!

could we have issue 4 back please?

There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown
It's a cover-up. Positron spilled his bowl of Froot Loops into the server again.
Darn metal gloves... hard to hold onto the bowl.

I don't usually check my ingame email more than once a week or so. All that's gonna be there is the Spam crap that shows the RMTers have gotten around the Temp Account bans.
Come to think of it....I think I've only had 20 ingame emails from legitimate sources in the past 3 years.
We either communicate via the Manor, or through other established methods.
I realize every MMO has bug problems, but compared to my experiences with other MMOs, CoX is the worst in this regard in that:
1. They released Issue 12 with many of these major bugs known and uncorrected. The release was motivated more by a marketing deadline than having a quality product.
2. After the release, we have waited for three weeks with no fixes to major issues of client crashes and teammate buff displays (among others). I am used to other MMOs having bugs of this severity fixed within 3 days, not 3 weeks. For almost an entire month of paid subscription, this product has not been performing to my expectations.
Yes, I realize an MMO is an enormously complex project prone to various bugs and other problems. But that doesn't excuse what I see as poor decision-making in regards to product quality and a substandard ability to respond to and correct these problems. This isn't a case of "Oops, we overlooked that -- we'll get it fixed 'Soon.'" This is a case of "An internal decision was made regarding the release date for which we're unable to offer anymore details. You'll have to live with it for now, and we'll try to find time to fix the bugs later while we continue work as usual with new hover animations, veteran pets' AI tweaks, etc." There are issues here beyond simple programming oversights that I believe need to be evaluated and addressed.
Lighthouse, despite my personal feelings towards how my gaming experience has been affected, I still want to thank you for the hard work you put into here as a community manager. You do a wonderful job as a liason between the players and the devs, and you do it very professionally. In this arena, my experience in these forums is actually better than any other MMO I've ever played, and you and your team deserve a bit of applause.

He's probably referring to the frequent crashes we've been seeing on Virtue and Freedom lately...
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Reiska,
Just to set the record straight, Freedom had a brief interruption on Sunday, but outside of that one incident, both Virtue and Freedom have been online and connected (outside of announced server maintenance) with thousands of players playing on them just fine. If you are encountering difficulty in staying connected, please be sure to let us know about it via the in game /petition command or on the website

Sure, the devs are supposed to listen to their customers, mister business 101 out there. And if I decide to start suggesting that the devs change the game from being about superheroes and supervillains to being about clowns that is my right as well, and technically Paragon Studios is supposed to pay attention to me. But I hope strongly that they assume a meth-head somehow managed to hack into my forum account and make paper airplanes out of my posts, because I hope they recognize stupid when they see it. I assume they will recognize futile just as accurately.

Hello, yes, I miss this.
Also, a fat 'no' on the service e-mails. If folks are that interested, they can just check the server maintenance page. It's not that hard. Let's hear it for being proactive.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Couldn't you send in-game emails in advance about non-scheduled maintainence to everyone if you know it's going to occur. Not just post it in obscure forums that most people don't even know about?
[/ QUOTE ]If people don't know about the official City of forums it's not because they are obscure, it's because they choose to be ignorant. The official site and forums has always been the source ot get info, including a link at the log in screen and in game tips on the load screens saying such things.
[/ QUOTE ]I think that's missing the point - would it really be so hard to email people ingame in advance to notify of non-maintaince schedules? I don't think so. And actually, I doubt most people are choosing to be ignorant, they probably just don't have any idea that the information exists.

Send out a mass email to every single character that exists on every single server? I'm going to guess yes, that would be so hard.
Maybe we can get pohsyb to add a /countdown command that brings up a countdown clock in the console that shows the time to next server shutdown.

As a result of this, we have delayed this update and it will not go into effect today.

Aw jeez, another week of "it's fixed on the test server" posts?? This is getting tiresom. Maybe it's some kind of configuration issue that doesn't need to go through the test server for a full week. Maybe.... <sigh>

How about a simple Message of the day?

So.......instead of a patch do we get a patch for the patch, or do we get unpatched which means everything falls apart and the game resets back to Issue 1? Just for clarification...
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry if any of you were confused by my message. The Live servers will stay at version 17.20080521.1 that they have been running on since May 28th with Issue 12: Midnight Hour in full effect. We will not be updating to version 17.20080528.1 that is currently in testing on the Training Room as we had previously planned. We'll update you shortly with details of what will be going to the Live servers when. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, so I suppose I must apologize for creating any confusion with what I thought was clearly a somewhat sarcastic and mildly humorous comment. It was never in doubt that we would stay with the current build instead of reverting back to a previous patch/issue. I must admit my own shock at seeing a redname actually comment on one of MY comments. Again, I apologize for any confusion. Back to my previous take-over of the Rogue Isles.....already in progress.
No posts by BaBs or Castle lately. Not even a mildly humorous jab at the pistol scrapper idea.
Something has gone monstrously wrong. Or this.

There was nothing rushed about this patch. It's been in testing for a couple weeks.

What's the latest update regarding the new in-game ads? Aren't those also coming very soon?
Also, what's the status on costume packs? Are those still happening?
well that explains why my systems wern't starting to update to the new patch when i tried to log on for my morning game time and coffee

Too simple for pohsyb. The countdown clock should have adjustable size and translucency, and it should be skinnable to display the time to server shutdown in Klingon.

So, uh, if you didn't get the new patch that was recalled, does that mean you won't have to update when you try and log in?

You won't have a patch when you log in next. It's just business as usual like any other day. Were testing something on the Training Room (see this post) and will let you all know what we plan to do moving forward once that plan is ready for public consumption.
