Discussion: Tuesday's Patch Delayed
Ya gotta realize what it take to maintaine something on the scale of MMORPG. I mean I maintain a small 6 node network, and if something goes wrong, or I install a patch wrong, I am looking at an hour or so worth of work to correct. For something like an MMORPG, you've got all the tech side stuff (Hard ware, cables, cords ect) the Program side stuff (The Server OS, the Log In Modules, the Community Store, ect) The game itself, and then you've got How the Game actually works (Like how different Power effects stack versus how others stack.) There's a lot to it, and hey news flash for everyone: The Support crew are Human! Humans make mistakes. While I dislike having to deal with the down time (Always one my day off too ) I'm very much releived that the Devs and support crew A) Admit their mistakes and B) Are working to fix them.
To all the guys, gals, boys, girls, dogs, cats, rats, rodents, and other unidentified creatures working on correcting the problem, Take your time. We got your back.
Hey that's not too awful bad.

I just woke up anyway...-looks around house for stuff to do...-
Hey, I think I should give my cat a bath...won't take that long and then the servers will be back up!

So.......instead of a patch do we get a patch for the patch, or do we get unpatched which means everything falls apart and the game resets back to Issue 1? Just for clarification...

Sorry if any of you were confused by my message. The Live servers will stay at version 17.20080521.1 that they have been running on since May 28th with Issue 12: Midnight Hour in full effect. We will not be updating to version 17.20080528.1 that is currently in testing on the Training Room as we had previously planned. We'll update you shortly with details of what will be going to the Live servers when. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

... what about those of us that had started downloading and applying the new patch, before it got pulled? Are we S.O.L. ...?
[/ QUOTE ]
My bet is, because the patch you started to download hadn't "applied" to your current CoX install (it doesn't until after the download is done), you'll be just fine.
Lately, the server seems to go down regularly on non-maintenance days, and with no warning. At least give some advanced notification - don't just post a message up half an hour before you decide to bring the servers down.
hey Lighthouse, quick question. I was on when the servers went down, and ran the updater about half an hour after they had gone down to see if the new patch would download... which it did.
What is going to happen now? Will the client revert to the old version, or do I have to reinstall the game files?

While I appreciate the reservation to implement a bugged patch into the live servers, I really wish this discernment had been present for the deployment of Issue 12 in the first place. I'm already upset that many of these bugs have been in place for three weeks without fixes. In learning that this new update is faulty, I am losing faith in your ability to properly support your own game.
At least you were able to identify the problem, and I hope this patch will be corrected so these bug fixes can be implemented ASAP.

While I partially agree with you, Issue 12 was deployed properly. Every issue has gone live with bugs that were fixed to the best of their ability with later patches. There will never be a big issue to go from test to live with absolutely no bugs. The point of beta testing is to do away with the bugs that make the would make the live patch a nightmare.
IMO the devs are doing a fantastic job with this, with one exception doublegutpunchanimationforwidowshastogoyouhearmeba bhastogo.

In talking with our Operations Team, it looks like the servers will be back up very soon (less than an hour) from now (it's apx 8:30 AM Pacific / 11:30 AM Eastern as I write this).
Thanks again for your patience.

Your client updater should fix those files.

Hi TheUndertaker,
Sorry that you feel that way. I have e-mailed notifications and server logs to show that our Operations team broadcasts downtime notifications via the ADMIN channel at 30 minutes, 15 minutes and 5 minutes prior to a planned maintenance (as was done today). You might have just missed those in some heavy combat, or if you had just logged in right before the servers came down.
Additionally, notification of the downtime was posted to the server status page and message forums yesterday afternoon.

I, for one, am very grateful to play a game as outstanding as is this one. I will gladly take what little down-time is required to keep it running as is required. May the Gods smile on the Devs.

Best thing, fire up the updater and try to log in!
If you get in, score, if not, keep refreshing the server page.
