Having not read the entire thread, does anyone else wonder if Powerset Proliferation is being done in lieu of sideswitching?
I've got several villains who were made in the hopes that Sideswitching would be done some day in the future.
And while some ATs are similar in nature, others just wouldn't work at all. My Ninjablade Stalker is a stalker, not a scrapper, and my Ninja MM wouldn't be the same if she had to become a TA/A Defender and lost the ninja who protect her.

I'm pretty sure the Dev have said there won't be side switching, and that's WHY we're getting Power Proliferation. So, I beleive it's a yes, but I don't have a quote to support this.

Yes, the devs have stated before that side-switching is simply not going to happen. So, sorry, you're most likely never going to see that.
However, I don't think Power Proliferation is in lieu, per se, of side-switching. Rather, it looks to me as though the devs have really come to understand that access to greater varieties of power options is what turns on the player base the most. The introduction of dual blades/willpower and plans for other new powersets is a part of this understanding, and I believe that Power Proliferation is another branch of this direction the game is going in.

Actually, I think the devs said that there would not be side-switching in the foreseeable future, due to technical difficulties. Not that it would never happen. The key issue, as is the case with respeccing Patron Powers, is that they don't have a way to remove badges from the game. A hero switching to villain side would need to lose the hero accolades, and vice versa. Plus the villains would need to lose their Patron accolade.
It's not a matter of the devs saying it will never happen, it's a matter of facing big technical problems so it won't be done anytime soon.

Sure they do. There might not be a way to automate the process, which there would have to be if side-switching were implemented. But they have removed badges before, so we know that removing badges is a possibility.

Sorry - you are correct I've been reading the boards since 10 this morning. It's exhausting. snarkiness retracted The mechanism which controls Patron pools however - is not a badge, clearly though.

Thermal should go to defenders.. poison should go to controlers.
scrappers shoud get electric melee and armor
MM should get Radiation Emissions...Kenitics wuold be way over powered.

I was totally ready to be overwhelmingly excited about this, but its just not there. A few of the powersets give me goosebumps but overall its pretty bland. I was seriously hoping the devs would put the best sets into each and every AT.
I give Powerset Proliferation a 5 out of 10. Great idea, could have been executed way better.

[/ QUOTE ] In some people's defense, the more rational requests I've heard for Ice Melee/Armor for brutes have been pvp-influenced. Since Fury generation is already an issue there, the additional slows wouldn't be a detriment.

EDIT: it wasnt BAB it was castle saying BTW, here's something I don't think has ever been publicly stated before, but is "true" -- Masterminds were meant to be the Tanker equivalents on the Villainside, not Brutes. Brutes tend to overperform compared to what the original design was, they were meant to be closer to scrappers than to tankers.

Sickboyquick: did you miss the part where they said this is only the first round of powerset proliferation, that these are the easiest sets to port and more will be coming later? They couldn't just port all the best sets because many of them need serious work to make the transition to another AT.

I wanted stone assault too. They have done the animation work for "stone blasting" with the legacy chain anyway. I mean, I'd prolly hate the set because I hate long animation times like the plague, but still - I thought they were being thematic about this...
I like the idea of sonic for masterminds. A more balanced choice than radiation for sure. I can't explain why but for some reason I don't want to see elec on a tank ever. I think if you want to bring the set to the hero side, scrappers are the way to go. But ice stalkers? I love this idea. It's an excellent way to bring ice over to the dark side.
You want my opinion? I think one of the big reasons they ain't porting ice melee anywhere is because it sucks. I think maybe with this proliferation initiative they might be encouraged to "fix" the set. Don't think it would really take a lot of work. Just add damage to Frozen Aura, (which as it stands has to be one of the most useless powers in the game - I'd argue more useless than black hole) and then do one of the following:
A) change animations on frost and greater ice sword to improve DPA.
OR
B) put greater ice sword in frost's spot, (yes, so that it is accessible at level 4), and then come up with a real "final" smash to go in greater ice sword's spot.
For all the crying you would think it was the end of the game. Funny, I seem to recall there has been crying before when an Issue had things that some didnt like. You will all get over it, so please, calm down and take a breath.
After reading much of the discussions about this it would seem that this will in fact be not that big a deal, and that while this will be just the first step in the process, it will be anything but game-breaking.
Yes, the PvPers out there on vill side will have to deal with psi/ blasters, but Im sure that before long there will be some heroes complaining about some of the new vill powers. It will all work out in the end....

They said it would be the easy sets.
Electric Armor isn't an easy port hero side because of Conserve Power.
It's available to Tankers and Scrappers in the epics, so can't be in their primary or secondary.
THis is also why Energy Aura and Ninjitsu couldn't be ported.
Sinse they wanted mostly theme for the sets given...werent going to get Electric Melee.
Ice/Ice for brutes isn;t easy cuz it has the fury problem.
I'm sure you can find many other reasons for the others.

this may be way off topic but i believe i am misunderstanding this new power swap comming in I12. so is this just "we get some of your powers, you get some of ours when it comes to rolling a new charector?" or is it "in conjunction to your Fire/stone tank you can now respec and choose some dark melee and dark armor powers to make a fire-dark/stone melee-dark melee tank?" kinda like pool power sets? having re-read as i was typing this i am starting to think no way are these new powers gonna be a pool power based additive to our allready uber builds. though stacking these to our own powers would kick A!!

They're not swapping anything: they are adding those items to the new character creation lists. You cannot ever respec into a completely new powerset, still. They aren't "in addition to your existing" powers. They're only for newly created characters.

Not thrilled about the powersets. Just getting tired of powers being "recycled". How about making newer ones that are original? Players have listed lots of ideas since release.
