Discussion: The Rikti Return!
I, for one, welcome our new (old) Rikti overlords!

The looming threat of the Rikti Invasion Force still hangs like a dark pall over Earth. Despite the best efforts of humanity, aggressive Rikti incursions still plague the planet. Advance warning systems indicate the Rikti are massing for attacks on the following dates throughout the year:
March 7th through the 13th
April 25th through May 1st
June 13th through June 19th
August 1st through August 7th
Sept 26th through Oct 2nd
November 14th through November 20th

Hmmm. For a minute there, I thought I cracked to the code to the dates they were choosing for the raids as being the perigee (closest approach) between the Earth and the Moon.
According to this site, however, the synchronicity isn't exact.
Seriously, though, how cool would that be if they picked the dates based on lunar perigee? As a lead-in to the Moon Zone(tm) that everyone's been wanting?
Anyway. Yay, Rikti. I'm gonna get sum moar meritz.

Thanks Devs. This is going to make get those badges so much easier.
Sweet, I look forward to this! I love bashin' me some Rikti.
THANK YOU!!!
It occurs to me that outrage against the Rikti incursions would not be confined to player-controlled heroes/villains; it seems to me that at least a fraction of the members of the various NPC groups would hang around to take out their feelings against the invading Rikti, whether from an attitude of "It's our world, and you're not going to take it over", or resentment at the Rikti interfering with their plans, or whatever. For example, whatever the ultimate goals of the Malta Group are, they're not going to be served by the Rikti overrunning Paragon City and undertaking mass conversion of its citizens.
It would flesh out the event somewhat if, during an invasion, the event code spawned some number of mob groups appropriate in affiliation and level to the zone that would be neutral to the players and would fight against the invading Rikti, then run off and despawn when the invasion ended. Ideally, the number of spawns would be inversely proportional to the number of heroes/villains in a zone, so that the density of NPCs is managed to reduce server load and the attendant lag

Maybe if I beat enough of them, Rikti will let me be in his show....

Sweet Jebus I cannot believe I've played this game for four years (okay on April 27th 4 yrs) and this is the 1st time I've ever heard a Lucille Ball reference in relation to the Rikti.
Now give me a minute to think I'm trying to come up with a joke relating to taking a Pillbox in RV into "All in the Family".

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Ooooo, government sanctioned alien asskicking. Im down.

Yay for instant-teaming, never-worry-about-levels, just join up and fight mayhem!
Feel sorry for anyone with hunts or trying to do Numina.

The best part about this game is getting all excited about new issues. The time between when a few pics and info is released and an issue goes live is great. The forums light up and everyone is a buzz of what is and what might be.....can we get some teasers?
/no
Damn this is going to be annoying. But fun to the others so to not complain more I won't log into those days. But its good they are bringing this back as some really wanted to get those badges.
Doom!!

Why?
Say you've got a mission to hunt Lost in Kings Row (normal hunt mission) or Vahzilok in Faultline (Numina) and an invasion hits the zone. You'll have to risk debtless defeat and almost certain enjoyment during which time the mobs you need won't be on the streets. You'll have to either hang out or go do something else before you can complete that specific mission!
Th Vahz in fautline take forever if you miss completing during the night portion of Paragon, since that's the only time they spawn. The invasion would give you something to do in the meantime.
IIRC, the invasion doesn't last very long per zone.
Yay, good timing.
These didn't use to be that fun for me as they were just a slideshow. But just got a new computer so now I'm looking forward to see how it does during these. Already it's been so nice not to come to a screeching halt for several seconds everytime I approach a WW's.
This is a great idea. Infrequent invasions so we don't get sick of them, but often enough that people can get involved and get the badges. What a great compromise.

Numina is what... Ten, twelve hunts in a row? Waiting for the invasions to end, if they're on the order of the first even, can add a good hour to the TF or more.
If I'm on to play / fight invasions, sure, no big deal. But if I'm trying to run the TF? Ugh.

Can someone throw a newb a bone?
1) A previous poster mentioned getting a toon to a level that's capable of helping, does that mean the invasion will be limited to higher level zones? Currently my highest toons are 12th.
2) If the invasion takes place in lower level zones (KR, GC, stc.), I assume the Rikti that appear there will be of appropriate level to the heroes who typically patrol those streets? No level 30 Rikti in Freedom Plaza, right?
3) Other than the obvious fun of doing something different and kicking some alien tail, what are the tangible rewards of participating in these invasions? I get the impression there are badges to be had and at least one weapon to be unlocked; if so, what are they? Any temp powers? Special enhancement/salvage/recipe drops?
I guess some of this info may be available at Paragonwiki, which is where I'll head now, but if anyone has any quick answers, thanks!

Yay! Rikti invasions are still some of the most fun parts of the game. Waves upon waves of invaders against heroes or villains defending their turf. Or just kicking alien butt on principle.
