Discussion: The Rikti Return!

shouldn't these raids have started by now?
[/ QUOTE ]
They have. Make sure you have the "System" channel assigned to one of your chat channels so you can see which zones are under attack. Their can be times of up to a couple of hours with no raids (it's random, with a streakbreaker to keep the time from going over 3 hours I believe, but that would be pretty rare to happen).

It came pretty close to happening on Guardian this afternoon. I logged in at 2:08 PM EST, and an invasion in Talos had just ended. It wasn't until 4:14:15 PM that the next Invasion happened, at Cap, followed by an Invasion of Sharkhead at 4:14:54 PM.
Ah well. At least now I know that they shouldn't be more than 3 hours apart, for a worst case sceniaro. Thanks for the heads up on that part, Lighthouse!

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
Talking about invasion badges...
I got mine for UXB, no problem.
Got mine for rikti soldiers.
I have seen ZERO heavy assault suites.
Anyone else have that problem?
50 Tanks: Invul/ss, Fire/ice/fire, Ice/em, Stone/fire
WP/Stone, dark/dark, shld/mace
50 Other: WS, SS/dark/sc brute, BS/Regen/WM scrpr, fire/fire/force blaster, rad/kin corr, mind/rad ctrl, ill/storm cntrl
you need to have at least one full team of 8 for them to spawn. If you have a few broken teams, they aren't gonna spawn. Also, Turn off Shadow fall/Steamy Mist/Arctic Air/ect any AOE stealth powers...they won't spawn otherwise

alaways a fun time when the Rikti show up, they host such great parties!
Bring the pain!
I got my accolade, I all I need was one Bomb, I have been waiting since issue10 for one bomb, one. I will say it again one
wow. i never really took the time to watch the drop ships from a safe place before, but i gotta say, awesome job on the graphics! i felt like i was watching a movie or something.
[qr]
Despite major net connection issues, this has been the most fun two days I've spent in game. Got the Accolade on three characters and I'm working on the fourth!
Thanks once again for turning the raids back on.
I was surprised to find my main character still hadn't picked up his Watchman accolade when I started this weekend. Nonetheless to say, he picked it up; only needed two bombs to finish it.
I was also able to get four other characters on different servers their accolade also; most of them were very close, and just like the previous post had mentioned, all they needed was one bomb since Issue 10's initial Global Invasion.
It was extremely cool to see all the new COH/V members oooing and ahhhing and cycling about the invasion ("what's happening? what am I supposed to do? How do I stop the drop ships?"). This weekend was truly full of awesomsauce!!!
Although I had to work a bit this weekend, I did do marathon sessions totaling nearly 34 hours since Friday evening to Sunday evening! I was even able to get a friend of mine onto a trial account to let him experience the event! He loved it!
To the community reps, devs, and NC Soft, THANK YOU for doing this!!!! everyone I teamed up with this weekend for a zone invasion was excited and ecstatic about it!! Kudos, team!!! You did great!!
NOW,...lets get back to Issue 12 info......heheheehehhe!

Do you seriously believe that the Cathedral of Pain Trial will ever make it to a live server?
Because if you do you're more of an optimist than I'll ever be.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I don't blame you for sounding bitter, and I am very often right on board with that viewpoint.
But for my part, it's not so much being an optimist as it is being a capitalist.
I don't so much "believe" it will happen as "expect and require" it to happen, as should every other poster, lurker and fanboy, and all those customers who have never even set keystroke in these Forums.
Because we pay the bills, folks.
We have a right to get what we pay for.

Oh that's nothing. Before the Good vs Evil Edition came out my first CoH/V purchase was a City of Villains box. On the back of the box it specifically mentioned the Cathedral of Pain Trial. Read that last sentence again. Yes, the CoP was a promised feature on the box that I purchased.
And what? 2 years later and it's still vaporware?
Now imagine if you purchased a car and the paperwork specifically said it has air conditioning. But when you drive off the lot you realize the air conditioning unit isn't even installed in the car. Now imagine that you go back to the lot, point to the paperwork that promises air conditioning and the salesman says that they will install it in your car, since it was a promised feature.
Now imagine it's 2 years later and the air conditioner still isn't installed in your car. Wouldn't you be a little upset? Hmmm... maybe just a little?
Or would that also qualify as "working as intended"?

Yes they will. I was on my Dark/ Defender with Shadowfall and there were plenty of Heavy Assaults.

This has been debunked before. The Cathedral of Pain is NOT advertised on the box for City of Villains. I have both Collectors and regular editions and will scan both in their entirety if you don't believe me. The CoP trial is not even vaguely hinted at, much less advertised on the box.
You know, you're right. Looking at my CoV box (for the first time in at least a year) it says "Wage epic battles against Hero and rival Villain Groups in huge base invasions."
It's appears that my aging memory interpeted that as the Cathedral of Pain Trial, but I was wrong. I stand corrected.
Great to hear!
I love my Rikti Axe
<ul type="square">[*]Abilities don't inhibit Rikti from spawning. Shadowfall, stealth, none of that matters.[*]Form teams! Fill up your teams! The more full teams there are, the more Heavies you'll spawn.[*]Get everybody AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to each other. I'm talking about two teams in the space of a single Triage Beacon, people! [/list]
Just some tips, dunno if anybody has brought all of these up. I know these work, mostly because of the nearly 30-Heavy spawn I spearheaded in Cap Au Diable! We had five or so full teams of people, all fighting in the space of two Triage Beacons, and we had a constant stream of Heavies for about 10 or 15 minutes.

Sweet Jebus I cannot believe I've played this game for four years (okay on April 27th 4 yrs) and this is the 1st time I've ever heard a Lucille Ball reference in relation to the Rikti.
Now give me a minute to think I'm trying to come up with a joke relating to taking a Pillbox in RV into "All in the Family".

o/~ Oh Rikti what a pity don't you understand...
That every fight's a retreat and your [censored] is in a can...
Honest question though: I Love Lucy watcher, or (my guess.. ) did you know the line from the Weird Al song? ^_^

Many moons ago, in the Blue King "City of Heroes" comic book, there was an advert for the "Rikti Lake" talk show. Just another cross pop cultur referance.
The first time this happened it was kinda cool. Everyone sort of dropped whatever they were doing to attack random overly powerful mobs literally falling from the sky. By chance, I was in a heavily populated area/time of day and it worked out quite well and was fun for a few minutes.
Then after about another 2 hours, it happened again, but this time I was in the suburbs and the peak hours had died down.
Imagine if you will, me doing "free your mind" jumps over the encounter zone scanning for whites and blues when for absolutely no reason I'm suddenly completely alone. I'm like, "Where in the smeg are all my mobs?" Then this "A Bomb" appears. OK. I'll give it a shot. I start wailing on it, and it becomes patently obvious that I can't make the slightest dent in the thing. Well this is useful. Then, while I am trying to heal back my stamina, I am suddenly being killed by bolts from heaven. Just what I need.
This whole event is just a pain in the rear. It arbitrarily kills my grind, leaving me with nothing to do but hope that I can kill some of the weakest of the lot (since even the yellows are enough to equal 2 orange normals) or just log until reality (virtual) resumes.
It's not that I'm against the idea in general, just that I'd like this to be an OPTION. Something that you can ignore or at least wander away from. If it came a lot less often (2 or 3 times a day for example) then I'd be fine with the change of pace, and it wouldn't be disruptive. If only 1/2 of the zone was impacted, then I could just wander to the other side of the map and that would also be quite manageable.
It just feels like I'm being forced into it with a bloody cattle prod. More so when there isn't anyone else around to conviniently group with at the drop of a hat.
I hope the designers understand that one of the worst atrocities of MMO design is denying your players a choice in how they play the game, and this includes participation in plot/events.
Just my informed opinion.

No not realy. You do realise you can run a mission or move to another zone. It is optional. You don't have to participate. you can even hide in the zone.
Something witty and profound

QFT.
BTW Invasions never happen in the hazzard zones.
ETA: Also, did the German blitzkreig of London ever taper off to once or twice? Did they just say "Oh let's just allow those poor londoners to go about their business before we bomb them"
No they didn't.
This invasion is a WAR...pure and simple. Just like wars in real life, the Rikti can hit, whenever, wherever (except for hazzard zones of course)
War is SUPPOSED to impact your life in some way shape or form especially when you're the country getting hit.
So yeah, invasion will muck up your play style, just like a real life invasion will muck up your lifestyle.
It's called realism...and I applaud the devs for their efforts to make it so
