Smoothing the XP Curve
One thing that we constantly examine is the rate of advancement in the game. In a future version, we intend to smooth out the leveling curve by changing how much experience is given out for defeating opponents. The intent is to smooth out the “bumps” where players typically get stuck leveling up their characters. Keep an eye on coming patch notes for specifics.

Real Numbers
As a general quality of life improvement we will be adding new functionality in a coming version of the game to display the “real” numbers behind your characters and their powers. This includes a user configurable display of important characteristics such as movement rate, regeneration rate, resistances and many more! Additionally, you will be able to see how those statistics are affected in real time by buffs and/or debuffs affecting your character.

[/ QUOTE ]

... NEW best thing ever.

OMG. Lighthouse. Devs. You are finally going to do this.

I may cry. I'm that happy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ditto all this....except the stalker-esque crying part.

P.S. First after LH! w00t!

The fact that we'll be getting these things prior to i12 is completely awesome. It's things like this that remind me of why I have kept my subscription to the City of franchise.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, they could easily have bundled all this up with I12 and gotten away with a thinner issue that way. I'm glad they didn't.

Fixing up the leveling curve will be very nice since so many of my alts are in the 25-35 range. Although I wonder what the devs have in mind... Like, if they were gonna lower the actual needed XP/Level, that could cause some people who are like, 39.9 to level up to 40 and maybe half a bar's XP. I can see many people loving that.

[/ QUOTE ]

We'll have more details when that patch goes to public testing on the Training Room, but as I understand it, we won't be changing the actual xp needed per level. That would have the kind of repercussions you speak of where someone could just level without doing anything. Rather, I believe it has to do with increasing common ways that people get XP in the level ranges the team is targeting (defeating critters, for example).

Yipeeeeee! Easier time leveling via Street Sweeping!

Congrats to you all!

*checks* ...Yep I did...

Now I have make amends with Positron damnit... Seems he saw the Light and is FINALLY getting away from Jack Emmert's oppressive ideas of "FUN" when it came to Character progression and build Customization. ...If Positron does the same thing to smooth out Salvage and Pool-C drops.... I promise I'll [u]never say another bad thing about him[u] for the rest of my villainous days. (Exluding "AGH!, put the Helmet back on!" of course )

As outlined above, all of the things discussed are:

So, they are all stuff you will see soon, and definitely before we kick up into talking about Issue 12 and the medium to longer term stuff. Hopefully that helps to frame the time lines.

Real numbers sounds like the bomb.

But I wonder if Masterminds will be able get number on their pets. Right now pet damage isn't even reported to the chat channels, something that really frosts me.

Also, it would be nice to see any Real Number also in a chat channel (Combat, maybe) so the data miners can go at it.

For me, this post makes me think about how much the Development Team really brings to the game experience - the content updates, power fixes, now sets, and above all, the community interaction. COH/V has grown by leaps and bounds over the last years... and a lot of what makes the game so darn good is being hooked on having a responsive, interested and player-friendly team behind the scenes. Thinking back on things like DAOC, Anarchy Online and others (and of course some Blizzard online games) - I couldn't go back, I've been spoiled.

This, also, is from someone who works in communications / CorporateSpeak. It's so nice to see a well-run, well-done comms effort. =)

It is critical that you pay attention at this time.

Smoothing the XP Curve

Real Numbers

Highlighting the two biggies for me. I've been an advocate of showing the actual numbers since the game was in beta. It took a long time but I'm glad to see it's finally coming.

I've also long thought the game had too much of a curve at certain points for leveling. Hopefully the smoothing of that curve will get more players to, well, keep playing.

All in all, some very nice improvements coming to CoH/V.

P.S. Lighthouse's corporate avatar is about as exciting as dish water. :P

I'm a bit curious about that, actually. As you say, they could easily have held this off until I12 and no one would have complained. I wonder how much the change to NCNC figures into this?

Still, even my cynicism is no match for the humble glory of Actual Numbers, so I can only assume it is because they love us customers that much. And perhaps they don't want to distract us from the wonderful ponies in I12. Life is good. 8-)

So something along the lines of 'since you're level 39 and you probably have no missions left, we'll give you a bonus to the XP you get from defeating badguys so that street sweeping will be more efficient'?

And the hits just keep on coming.

You guys should be careful with all this amazing improvement.

What if the games collapses in on itself from the sheer amount of Win, like a star collapsing??

Then we'd have like... a Winhole, sucking in all information on the internets...

I'm just sayin.

It's probably addressing the discrepancies in those "Number of even-conned minions needed to level" charts. It's been a while since I looked at one, but as I recall a few levels required much larger increases than their preceeding level.

I am truly loving what I'm reading about this. The Vault is very interesting and I can see it come to great use, although I do see this as a soft blow to the Hero Corps website and Longbow websites that are used for bios. I'm sure the Vault won't let us have the great kind of bios that the two sites allow, but if it means I can put all my alts onto one link, that searches out the global of @Cellanoid, well, w00t to that.

[/ QUOTE ]

What soft blow? CityVault just shows you in game stuff. The stuff that players can add is severely limited. The sites you mentioned allow a LOT of stuff that players can add to their characters.
