MoG continuing to suck is the only thing that grounds me in reality.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
Devs --
Thank you for a great year. We have had significant changes to this game, just about all of which have made it better and kept me lovin' it. My entertainment budget goes to CoH over everything else.
The upcoming stuff looks pretty darn nice, too.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Real Numbers
As a general quality of life improvement we will be adding new functionality in a coming version of the game to display the real numbers behind your characters and their powers. This includes a user configurable display of important characteristics such as movement rate, regeneration rate, resistances and many more! Additionally, you will be able to see how those statistics are affected in real time by buffs and/or debuffs affecting your character.

Hail the end of the assumption that players are unfrozen cavemen lawyers (Ooh, numbers frighten and confuse us).
Great news on what's coming up. Here's to the success of NC^2.

As everyone has said, some great stuff. I'm particularly impressed that such significant things as smoothing the levelling curve and the numbers info are being handed out BETWEEN issues... that's showing a phenomenal amount of drive to make players happy. Any word if weapon cast times, stalker changes, and other things that are not necessarily issue related but "soon" might be coming in that time frame?
(Yeah, I know I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, but you've got to play out the "win" as far as you can).
Thanks for the info LH!

My hope is that it displays IO information such as set bonuses.
[/ QUOTE ]
It would more or less have to, otherwise its value as a tool would be pretty low The only question is how they categorize the various bonuses (i.e. tack damage set bonuses on top of the damage enhancement bonus of individual powers, list them as a global damage bonus, etc). I think the way its done in Mid's right now would be a pretty good model to start with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Frankly in the grand tradition of Microsoft I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of these much desired improvements such as City Vault and 'Real Numbers' are actually based on some licensing partnerships between NCsoft and the more popular fan based websites/applications such as CiT and Mid's Hero Designer. As you pointed out it'd be easier for our Devs to leverage off of existing implementations rather than to recreate these things completely from scratch.

As long as the end result works I wouldn't care if they partnered with oh.... I don't know.... SATAN! Or even Microsoft. Well, maybe I'd care if it was Microsoft.

The Real Numbers will be soooooo great to finally have available to us.
I wonder if the Real Numbers will interface with the City Vault someway for out-of-game lookups.

I am truly loving what I'm reading about this. The Vault is very interesting and I can see it come to great use, although I do see this as a soft blow to the Hero Corps website and Longbow websites that are used for bios. I'm sure the Vault won't let us have the great kind of bios that the two sites allow, but if it means I can put all my alts onto one link, that searches out the global of @Cellanoid, well, w00t to that.
Fixing up the leveling curve will be very nice since so many of my alts are in the 25-35 range. Although I wonder what the devs have in mind... Like, if they were gonna lower the actual needed XP/Level, that could cause some people who are like, 39.9 to level up to 40 and maybe half a bar's XP. I can see many people loving that.
Having the real numbers in the game is good. It's not something I'm ecstatic about because I really don't pay attention to them much. Maybe it will help me be more attentive to it since it'll be shiny and new.
The fact that we'll be getting these things prior to i12 is completely awesome. It's things like this that remind me of why I have kept my subscription to the City of franchise.
Good show, NCSoft.
Can't wait till I-12 and the City Vault are for Open Beta

NCNC is our current abbreviation for our new development studio located in Mountain View, California which houses the support team behind the City of Heroes Franchise. NCNC comes from NCsoft NorCal.
If you follow the link in the original post to "A New Age Dawns" you can read the original announcement of the formation of the NCNC studio.

Great! All Great!
I do have one request, when you create the City Vault is there any way that it could be tagged so that it doesn't get caught up in things like Websense for Games!
If that is at all possible it would be greatly appreciated. I am always frustrated by the villains board because of this. Thank gosh the Heroes board isn't tagged as such.

I have come to accept the fact that MoG will always suck and burn will never again be useful for tankers. Every game needs its flaws, otherwise we'd all die from sleep deprivation.
Then again, I had also believed that they'd never give us real numbers and that weapon customization would be a dream forever out of reach. This announcement of real numbers in real time has pushed everything I had always known out the window. In this new world with hard numbers in CoX anything seems possible. Hell, there's even something vaguely resembling an end game beginning to develop. A new age dawns, indeed.

Smoothing the XP Curve
One thing that we constantly examine is the rate of advancement in the game. In a future version, we intend to smooth out the leveling curve by changing how much experience is given out for defeating opponents. The intent is to smooth out the bumps where players typically get stuck leveling up their characters. Keep an eye on coming patch notes for specifics.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really only have to say just be careful with this one. Nothing could be worse than finding out that after the changes a person could level their toon to 50 over a good weekend. It should take a long time to get to 50, it doesnt get any higher than that. Besides, if u make it too easy to level, it takes the sense of accomplishment away. That is important in a game. Not to mention the new billion people with 50's who now dont know as much as the rest of the experienced players and teammates get mad because something that an old lv. 50 player probably would have known, this new lv. 50 player doesnt.
Im not saying u guys are incompetent, just putting extra urging on the being careful how much the exp rate is adjusted.
Otherwise, keep up the good work.

We'll have more details when that patch goes to public testing on the Training Room, but as I understand it, we won't be changing the actual xp needed per level. That would have the kind of repercussions you speak of where someone could just level without doing anything. Rather, I believe it has to do with increasing common ways that people get XP in the level ranges the team is targeting (defeating critters, for example).
