Discussion: Configuring Your In-Game Web Options

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement:

In the near future we will be making use of some previously unused Character options and we want you to be aware of them so you can configure them to suit you. In the Options menu, under the Miscellaneous section, there are four web options:

<ul type="square">[*] Hide Statistics from Web Page[*] Hide Power Info from Web Page[*] Hide Badges from Web Page[*] Hide Friends from Web Page[/list]These Web options will soon be used. If you do not wish to have your character’s information be displayed on the World Wide Web, you will want to configure them to be “Enabled.” If you enable “Hide Statistics from Web Page,” none of your information will display. If that option is disabled, then you can configure the next three options: Powers, Badges and Friends List. By default, your Statistics, Powers and Badges will be on, but Friends List will be off.

To clarify, information could include such things as: statistics found on the in game kiosks, your different costumes, friends lists, powers and what enhancements are slotted into them and badges obtained.

All of these settings are configured per character. Characters who have not logged in for over 90 days, regardless of whether they are tied to an active or inactive account, will not be viewable.

We will have more information about this feature soon; in the meantime we wanted all of you to be aware of these settings in the event you do not want your character information to be public.

This looks interesting. (first after a redname woot!)

Wow. I don't think I even realized they existed. Sounds very cool.

I wanted to follow up on this announcement to say that I'm sorry it is a tease of what is to come. At this time I don't have more clarification of how these settings will be used.

Also, we understand that the "Enabled/Disabled" option settings are not as intuitive as they could be. For these, and other, settings "Yes/No" options would likely work better.

Very interesting.

Especially the powers/enhancements option. I'm actually glad that's not available in-game - there are plenty of people who get snippy about the power choices of others they're teamed with.
"That power is t3h gimp!"
"But I like it!"
*kick*

... getting that from people who didn't like your slotting or IO choices would be a nightmare. I'm glad you can hide it on the website :-)

That said, this is pretty neat and is a pretty nifty community thing. An -expected- community thing, since those options have been there a good long while, but still nice to have.

Lighthouse it would actually help if the options we are selecting are actually readable? Most of the lettering is all jumbled together whenever you try to read what those options are. It is like they put way too much text into that same space. I also have the same issue when listing all my powers on the in game ID card we get that shows are XP needed to level and amount of Inf.

Personaly its better to have everyone awake of the feature and be able to disable it, rather then people complaining after its release that there favorite PVP toons stats have been "leaked" or that there friends with "so-n-so".

But ive been waiting for this to be used for a while now.

The only question is what is the default settings.

It's good to see that you and the "new team" are doing so much stuff.

When I first started coming to the forums it seemed that every answer given by a Dev was always; "That'd be too much effort" or "Working as intended", like it was their motto or something. And don't even get me started on the rants I've heard about "Stateman's Vision" from several of my friends who've been playing this game since the begining.

Now NCSoft takes over and it seems like the Devs new motto is "Can do!"

And frankly I like it.

Either way, if you're implementing some sort of in-game statistical tracker for others to see outside of CoH/CoV that would be great. Considering the alternative background tracking programs available, this would be much more accurate and efficient.

I don't buy all this "Oh, thats not fair, they know my power set!" in PvP garbage. If you've been playing the game long enough, you know what the other person is using. Not to mention you can just right click on them and view "Info".

As to being kicked for your power choice and slotting in a team....*shrug*, never happened to me, but I'm more inclined that the person would have been kicked anyways for being lame. Even those new to the game find someone to help or figure out the general flow of things relatively quick.

Oh, and just a side note, is I11 coming out sometime before next year? Keep up the great work.

I don't suppose this might lead to some sort of nifty forum-sig badge generator like so many other games seem to have ... I mean, that busy block of text I have down there is really informative to me, but not exactly sleek and sexy to behold.

Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Humm... will this make the City Info Terminal web site obsolite? Maybe not, since this won't tell you what badges your missing. But I like that this is getting implemented (always wondered where the web page was... It doesn't exist!).

if this is going to be something that reflects our stats on the website, I am against something like this as it just gives the RMT spammers something to work with especially if it is a friends list. I would feel horrible to subject friends to that spamming because I didnt click an option. If it strictly an in game thing then make the friends list non-viewable by default.

Sweet!

I like looking through others builds. I spend hours on Suckerpunch's site scanning builds. Some slot in ways I hadn't thought of before.

I may actually be able to see some of what a few PvPers have up their sleeves with the new feature.

We don't believe this will make it any easier for spammers to reach you.

Additionally, we are aware of the situation with in-game email spam and working to address the problem in a future version of the game.

The team is still hard at work squashing bugs in Issue 11. We plan to have another update to the Training Room soon. While Issue 11 won't be out for this long US holiday weekend, it is certainly planned to be out before the scheduled Dec. 10th Prestige Grant and Debt Wipe.

[/ QUOTE ]Can you elaborate on this some because putting a giant list of all the names they could possibly spam all in one space seems like it will make it easier for them to spam us to me. If you can go into details as to what is going to be done in the future version of the game on that aspect I would feel more confortable about it, until then I am very skeptical because /ignore_spammer has not done jack for me as i am getting the same emails daily, RMT tells and it is even on toons I have not logged in for weeks at a time.

It'll let /everyone/, if you opt in, to see things like build (and possibly enhancements), costumes, badges, and, presumably, bios online. This also might cut down on board spam where people cut 'n' paste their current builds from hero planners and instead use a link to their heroes' online info.

If the devs really nail it, the system will also (finally!!!) let people see what their set bonuses add up to without using a spreadsheet or a hero builder.

I, for one, am digging this announcement

I would prefer, if you were to go ahead with this type of option, to have it automatically set so that the information is NOT published on the WWW. Having such a setting set to grant access, as it appears, is a false agreement between NCSoft and myself. I would consider that type of publishing data, without prior consent, an invasion of privacy.
