You're perfectly free to do whatever you want. I know NCsoft and Paragon studios are doing the best they absolutely can to help resolve issues with their player base. The whole reason of having a free system is for people to experience the game before they sub, not the other way around. If you choose to do it backwards that is your business. As far as only missing out on the incarnate stuff. You will also be missing out on the new content that only incarnates will be able to complete. Sure, it isn't here now, but with the revamp of Dark Astoria it is starting. At some point that will be a huge piece of the game as it is already becoming.
If you're not interested in that then, again, that is your choice. If we're going to resort to name calling then my part in this thread has concluded. If people can't be civil and differentiate between an argument and a discussion then I want no part in it. As for the OP to get his thread back on track. Keep pestering support over your issue. Unless they discover user error you're entitled a refund for being overcharged. An issue such as this probably will not be resolved ASAP so you need to keep on them about it and be very clear about what is going on. Hope you get it resolved one way or another. -
I wasn't posting to the OP for starters and no. I don't find it rude at all. It's business. It's a sad fact that businesses are cruel to some degree. If you're able to spend $100-$300 a month on this game then surely it isn't much of a stretch to pay an extra $15 a month is it? You might actually SAVE money in the long run because there are things on the market you wouldn't have to buy if you were VIP. My family and I play this game and others, so this isn't the only game we sub to monthly even when we're not playing the other one or this one 24/7. It doesn't sound like for you it would break the bank.
I'm not here to ruffle feathers. It was a simple statement of "You get what you pay for". Do I think you don't matter? Of course not. But it doesn't matter that I think you matter. I'm not running the business you're soliciting a service from. Thank you for calling me names too...Ive been called many things but "elitist jerk" hasn't been one of them. You and I may have crossed paths at some point and I might have been one of the friendliest players you've ever met. It's easy to make assumptions about a persons integrity when you know nothing about them. As for keeping opinions to myself. I have, on many occasions, bit my tongue and decided not to post. This was not one of them. However this is a forum after all. I'm entitled to post my opinions. If you think I was talking down to you then I apologize. That was not my intention. -
*insert foot here* It's pretty simple. If you want the best service you pay for your subscription. If you want less then the best then don't pay at all. It's actually not that far fetched and is pretty much common practice for a lot of businesses. You get what you pay for. As a a VIP we get more features and better support. Makes perfect sense right? after all we are paying for a service.
It's only after you start paying and you get crap service that you have room to complain. Now if you were a VIP when your problem arrived and still received what you would consider insufficient service then that is a different matter entirely. However to sit here and expect top of the line service when you're not currently subscribing....that's a bit foolish don't you think? If I were playing for free and the game bugged out on me and I lost stuff I wouldn't expect NCsoft or Paragon to do anything about it because in all honesty a freebie isn't important enough in the pyramid to be considered serious for customer support. heh, just realized....it IS "customer" support. If you're not buying anything you're not really a customer now are you? -
So what you're saying is it's the server that makes the Mastermind Pet A.I. stupid? or that perhaps the code for controlling pets is too complicated for the server to handle? Even though I know nothing about programming I am however smart enough to know that you're not suggesting the server is responsible for the buggy A.I.
I refuse to believe that Mastermind code, which is at least 7 years old, is stressing a server that should, in all honesty, be less then half that in age and processing power. What I'm saying is the servers should be running circles around the code that CoH is throwing at it. Oh well, I'm probably wrong *shrug* -
I've been using Mids for as long as I can remember. To me it is a necessary part of the game. So much so that it is no different to me then not having a decent biography for each and every single one of my characters. I've actually lost the desire to play any new powerset on a new character without having that clear cut path of what my power choices will be from 1 - 50. Just the same as not knowing who that character is as defined in a bio. Why? Because it lets me focus on the things we love the most. Actually playing the game. I don't have to make a decision that might cost me a respec later down the line when I've already made that decision prior to ever playing the powerset.
Because of Mids and my playstyle I "KNOW" my character is going to be badass. It gives me more incentive to get to those new powers. To level the toon up. I don't "think" or "hope" it is going to be badass or just be "ok" at the end. This utility changed the way I approach the game. As much as it's appreciated, all the hard work that goes into development of this fine program, it's a frustration that when a new issue comes out mid's isn't right there with it. We all know it will be updated....but to leave the game for a bit, see a new issue was released with new powersets, immediately check to see if Mids is updated and see that the last update was all the way back in December. One can't help but be filled with a sense of disappointment.
Then you have to wait for weeks on end for the new release. Then you realize you're not really interested anymore and go back to playing your other toons. *shrug* I know I'm being silly. This scenario isn't always the case but this illustrates the difference one little tool makes for a lot of us. I'm as appreciative as anyone else who has ever used Mids. Keep up the good work, I'll just have to find something else to do until the update drops =D -
It's now 2012 and I'm seeing a halfway decent conversation about fixing the MM Pet A.I. Ah if only....I've so often wished that this issue had been fixed years ago. Perhaps I'd spend more time playing MMs other then the one 50 I got back in 07 and then the demon MM thats still sitting in her 40s...sigh.
Funny that my favorite class turned out to be my least played. That's a bad reflection on the class in and of itself. Yes I know how to play one, yes I know how to bind pet controls and yes, I'm a veteran MM player, so playing one well wasn't ever the issue. However Pet A.I. was and most certainly posed a HUGE drawback to ever wanting to seriously play a viable role in a team ever again.
Seems simple doesn't it. Pets with ranged attacks should stay at ranged and only activate close range abilities when enemies come within proximity of their close range attacks OR when you send them in to be close range.
Melee type pets shouldn't cast ranged abilities and then get stuck casting them over and over again when their strength is in MELEE!!! I got sick of watching my grave knights just sit back and cast dark blast when their strongest attacks are head splitter and disembowel. *facepalm*
You would think being that they're coded to behave how they currently are it would be a simple fix to code them to behave how they "should" behave. One must know how to write the code to even get them to do what they do in the first place. I know if I knew anything about game programming my first priority would be to make sure buggy behavior in the A.I. would be ironed out before anything ever hit live. I'm just saying. -
It amazes me that more people aren't posting. I know we're not the only ones having problems because I've seen others in channel chat that corroborate that they too are having these problems. Perhaps another post has been made?
-
Really super annoyed at coming back and finding this. I'm having the same issue and I know exactly what you're talking about. Also on top of this issue of our UI not being where it was Pre-Issue22 I'm also finding that the combat attributes window (For those of us that monitor real numbers) is completely jacked. Some characters are missing half of what you were keeping an eye on. Displaying the wrong information OR no combat attribute window is present though it was there prior to the release of issue 22.
Frustrating to say the least. I'm sure a fix will be forthcoming. At least I hope there will be one because I find this game breaking as saving your window layout after you arrange the windows back to how you had them does not fix the issue. It just bugs out again later. -
Quote:As someone already said costume bundles, IMO, are one of the things that are reasonably priced on the Paragon Market. Also, City of already boasts THE most diverse costume/character creator of any MMO on the market. Costumes are part of that "backbone" I mentioned earlier. Costume/Story/Powersets/Content (I.E. Zones/Story Arcs). They are what makes this beautiful game go round and round. Again though they're priced fairly in comparison to other items on the market. The thing is, though, this *is* just your point of view. For you, powersets are a most important part of the game, and so of course they should be free. Someone else might not care at all about powersets, and see costumes as the central part of CoX. You're willing to pay for costumes, but not for powersets. They think that costumes should all be free, but would pay for powersets.
It's another version of the 'what should be included in Premium content' debate. If everyone gets to have what they think of as a central part of the game for free, then there's virtually nothing left that can be sold in the market and used to fund the extra development and extra releases that you acknowledge are happening.
At the end of the day, what it comes down to is, are you willing to pay extra to get more of some of the things that you feel are fundamental to the game, or do you think that they shouldn't exist for anyone to buy? Because those are the options -- more stuff that we pay for, or the lesser amount of stuff we got under the old system, for free. More stuff for free isn't really going to fly as a business model. -
Ok, just to clear some things up. I never said anything about us as players getting "less" then we were before Freedom. Those of you stating we are getting more are absolutely correct and I agree with you 100%. Also I'm well aware that Time Manipulation was free. In hindsight it wasn't in the context I had intended and just got thrown into a lump with powers that were purchasable. I meant to use it as an example FOR the powers we have been getting for free. Jumbled my thoughts there it appears, so much for proof reading lol. When you're passionate about something, keeping everything on track is a chore =P
Look, my biggest gripe is that if you're going to give VIP players a stipend of 400pts a month then charge us to buy new, somehow "extra", powersets on the market those items shouldn't cost two months worth of points to buy. A powerset should be 400pts instead of 800pts. From my POV powersets to City of Heroes should never ever be considered "extra". They define the game. It's one of the primary reasons we play new toons and even bother with them. Experiencing new powersets is the driving force behind sustaining any superhero MMO.
Some of my biggest detractors won't ever be on the same page as me or see the game the way I see it. I love this game. I've been a subscriber for nearly 6 years with no interruption even while playing other games. Why? because I've always felt the game was worth keeping my subscription. I met my life partner in CoH another huge reason why I love this game. Don't paint me as a troll or a hater. I was voicing an opinion that powersets, whether free and designed for a new issue or this so called *extra* and designed for the current market, should be free. Not some of them, ALL of them. Because powersets are one of, if not THE backbone to why most if not all of us play this game.
I'm not up here trying to assault your way of life. If anything wouldn't getting all the new powersets for free as a subscriber be better then getting some for free and others on either a schedule or an extra burst payment that is not part of your subscription? When Freedom was coming out I envisioned the F2Pers as the only ones who got a pay as you go model to pick and choose what they want to buy off the Paragon Market. Not once did the thought occur to me that VIPs would need to do the same. Shame on me I guess.
Some of you are always going to be happy with the game no matter what. Even though they've given us so MUCH compared to what was previously in the game there are always going to be those of us picturing more. Bigger and better powers, bigger and better content and bigger and better ideas as to how these should be implemented into the game. That doesn't make either side right or wrong, it just leaves the content and those of us still pushing the Devs for more. -
Quote:Actually no, it had never occurred to me to research the amount of time in between releases. Reason being is it quite simply makes no difference as we are paying for a service and the content of that service. You also mentioned two other sets that slipped my mind in Dual Blades and Willpower that further illustrate my point of view. Thank you. I'll concede to you that it was 4 powersets as part of Going Rogue and not 2. Regardless and once again it makes no difference. Your evidence is still lacking sherlockAside from the fact that FOUR, not two, of the power sets on your list came with the expansion, did you also stop to see how much time there was in between those power set releases?
I'm going to disregard everything from CoV release and before.
On november 28 2007 Issue 11 gave us Dual Blades and Willpower.
123 days later, on may 20 2008 Issue 12 gave us the first round of Powerset Proliferation and VEATs.
174 days later, on december 2 2008 Issue 13 gave us Pain Domination and Shield Defense.
287 days later, on september 15 2009 Issue 16 gave us the second round of Powerset Proliferation.
335 days later, on august 16 2010 Going Rogue gave us 4 sets: Demon summoning, Dual Pistols, Kinetic Melee, Electric Control.
393 days later, on september 13 2011 Issue 21 gave us the third round of Powerset Proliferation and Time manipulation.
Then, starting on that september 13 Freedom gave us a spread of pay-for powersets over the course of a few months.
The evidence shows that we're still getting as much powersets for free through issues now as before Freedom. We're just getting a bunch of pay-for sets on top of that. If in another 200 or so days we still haven't gotten new free powersets, THEN you can complain about the free stuff slowing down because they want to make us pay for everything. But with the whole dark control'n stuff coming down the line chances are good they'll easily make that deadline.
Another thing to keep in mind is that all the pay-for sets were created specifically for Freedom and the Paragon Market. Those weren't sets they had laying around and suddenly decided to put up for sale. Their development time was budgeted against their sale bringing in money. If Freedom hadn't happened, chances are good those powersets wouldn't have happened either.and my original point still stands.
Street Justice, Time Manipulation (which I had completely forgotten), Beam Rifle, Titan Weapon are all *NEW* powersets with *NEW* animations and FX and all of them were put on the market for both f2p and VIP members to purchase (Both F2P and VIP to purchase should never be in the same sentence since one is paying a monthly fee and the other isn't). Quarter Staff when it's released will be the same. I do not believe that had there not been the design and release of Freedom we would have never gotten any of these powersets. I would sure as hell hope that they would have continued to design for the game as they had been. adding new content, powers and whatnot otherwise we as subscribers would have just been wasting our money.
Either way there will be those of us that feel they're getting everything they're paying for and then those of us that feel like our money is being wasted. If a subscription fee just gives me the right to log in and play, access to a couple ATs that F2Pers can't play and a few perks like monthly points and paragon rewards but I still have to spend extra money on vanity items and powersets because the stipends don't cover it until you wait and let them pile up all the while new things are coming out....yeah. Anyway, I've expressed my concerns about the issue now. That's all I wanted to do. -
Your joking right DJ? I've only ever had to spend either A: Points or B: Money on three powersets since I started in '06. Can you guess which ones? Yep, Street Justice, Beam Rifle & Titan Weapons. All of which dropped when the game went F2P and the Paragon Market started. Shield Defense, Pain Domination, Villain Epic Archetypes, Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, Electric Control, Kinetic Melee, a plethora of power proliferation and only two of those powersets on that list came because of an expansion. Just the second paid expansion in the game's 7+ year history to which their desire to charge for new powers was completely justified.
So while yes, you're correct that we've paid for powersets before. Do you see how skewed the reasons for buying those sets are today with the current system? I mean yes they could just as easily have said to hell with us and charged money for every new thing that they released from the very beginning. They haven't and for that I'm very thankful. All I'm saying is they've tweaked what we are used to receiving from them and not for the better. As subscribers our powersets should be free as they have been. Certain releases should be free as they have been or are we now at the point where all we're really paying for is not having to buy content updates. -
Agree with those expressing their belief that they've gotten carried away with charging us points that as subscribers we either earn by "waiting" or for the impatient (which they're counting on) go drop some cash to get more and buy the things we like. This is really what it boils down to. Overpriced vanity pets, travel powers, emotes and yep, my personal favorite, full blown powersets. Things we used to get as soon as they were released we now have to sit around for and save up points or pay out of pocket on top of the subscription fee to just to utilize it asap. This is a big turn off for me and many others.
I'm bummed out about that really. Was so awesome when a new powerset came out you just...well.... got it. Hell, it was worth buying the booster packs for the new costume items & emotes when those were all the rage. Seems like a distant memory already. Had to vent about this somewhere and this thread seemed like the perfect place. Yes, I'm bitter because I didn't have enough points to buy Titan Weapons after the big spending spree getting all the other new things since the last issue dropped. Seeing all these new items like the fireworks and the flying carpet now just adds to my frustration.
My point to all this is, paying customers shouldn't have to buy powersets off the market. Emotes yes, vanity items yes, different costume/weapon pieces are fine (all be it at lower point prices). Not powersets though. I could see paying the current prices if you were a f2p account. Charging 600pts for a vanity dog.....800pts for a powerset....400pts for individual pieces of whatever the new items cost all while waiting each month to get just 400pts per month is frankly sad. lol, well you get the idea. We are loyal fans of the game but a good thing to keep in mind is not to bite the hand that feeds you. -
While I agree with everyone here that for a vanity pet the pricing is a bit too steep I will probably get it to support the development of the 4 legged rig as well. This kind of evolution in the game can lead to many suggested and anticipated powersets. Beast Summoning and Shapeshifting come to mind. We will just have to wait and see.
Did have my hopes up that I could start my Titan Weapon or perhaps Quarter Staff toon this week but *le sigh* nope. Well there is always next week! or the week after....or the week after that.....well you get the point =D -
I don't mean to be rude but chances are with all the changes that have been made to the game over the last two years, a 1.7GHz single-core with integrated ATI graphics that is no longer supported by ATI. It isn't going to cut it no matter what you try to do. (I had a single core 2.4GHz desktop that had trouble with the game back in 2006 with a PCI-E Nvidia GeForce card).
The game takes a little bit more to run now then it ever has. My best suggestion is to probably upgrade to a more modern laptop or desktop PC if possible.
"Circa 2010" ....LOL good laugh. Thank you my time traveling friend. I was unaware it was so long ago! =P -
It is true that at some point the lag gets unacceptable. You say you've been a subscriber for 2 years and that's great. Whilst being a subscriber you will notice throughout the course of your tenure here in CoX that there will be ebbs and flows to the lag. The game is going through a whole new metamorphosis right now including hardware changes. With that and the growing population boom due to Freedom you are going to get massive amounts of traffic on the servers. (Hell on headstart launch of freedom I saw Infinity full for the first time in YEARS!) This has also happened to me several occasions over 6 years worth of playing. One I can remember is when Midnighters first came out. The revamp of the Rikti and the invasion stuff. Going Rogue to some extent when that came out. All of it got streamlined eventually.
The only advice I can offer is to make sure it's not completely the fault of your ISP, or hardware, or other issues local to you. If you've already ruled that out then take comfort in the knowledge that over time these problems dramatically improve as things settle down after major changes. The best option is to be patient. I'm sure the technical staff and developers are doing all they can to ensure smooth play under these circumstances but sometimes it's even out of their control. -
This isn't something new. Every so often when a server may be having...lets say difficulties, sharkhead seems to suffer this bermuda triangle effect. Sometimes if you're lucky enough you can use pocket D VIP teleport power or any numerous zone teleports to pull you out of the zone without having to travel all the way to a boat to get out and you'll be fine. Other times it seems like it's almost impossible.

This happens to be the bug that crashes me about 90% of the time while running trials. Very seldom does it ever happen anywhere else other then while running a BAF or a Lambda.
-
The biggest issue I'm having with issue20 is that the Trials seem to randomly trigger random crashes (Yes, lots of randoms). You can be playing along and BAM soundloop bug (crash). Come back in, rejoin trial BAM corrupt texture bug (crash). Ok, again come back on play in some trials and then again BAM some kind of City of Heroes.exe error (crash).
Whatever you guys did with the code for the trials is...well, completely unstable. I'm not the only one it happens to either. Last night half the league on Lambda crashed. Throughout both BAF and Lambda runs miscellaneous ppl come and go due to crashes. We put a brand new system together yesterday and gave the trials a run. 2 crashes in BAF 2 crashes in Lambda all from the above mentioned issues (or something unknown). Game runs like a champ on the new system until the crashes.
Rest of the game runs fine for the most part. Seldom run into soundloop bug unless I'm doing a couple Task/Strike Forces in a row or Mothership Raids on my machine. Really hope it gets ironed out because the crashes are starting to kill the fun factor. -
Just an FYI. NCsoft doesn't make the game, Paragon Studios does.
-
Trust me I can totally relate to that. Also wondered the same things. "Maybe they dont speak english" "maybe they're not watching team chat" "maybe theyre just plain stupid" lol. I dont care how ub3r l33t you think your toon is. Either youre going to die or the team is going to die because of you.
Prove to the team you are worth a damn by sticking with them and by listening to the team leader. Generally it works better that way. If the leader is stupid and the team sucks dont waste time trying to solo. Just find another team or, just a thought, make your own ( novel idea isnt it? ) hehehe -
Gold color huh? So that's what that is. Everyone I've talked to has said it looked more like yellow and wondered why the helper got a yellow name and the people needing help got nice shiny PURPLE names =P
Interesting concept but something tells me a number of people will just be stupid and select that they need help so they have a purple name lol. Already seen it a number of times since I20 went live. -
Not really a bug but i noticed that the queue dropdown for the incarnate trials is under "LFG" menu which im assuming means "Looking for group". Where as the "looking for group" dropdown is under the "League" menu. Is this working as intended or did somebody accidentally place them in the wrong section?

Quote:...CoH and WoW were released the same year within roughly 7 months of eachother. Their development periods then were running in parallel. While the graphics superiority of WoW over CoH is another topic entirely (highly debatable). Each game has shared it's own history of bug issues. EVERY online game has these problems, or might I point you in the direction of the WoW forums?World of Warcraft- a much newer Game, runs just fine on SP1.
i fail to see how the launcher for a much newer ( and might i add more code - complex and graphically superior) Game can use a launcher SP1 friendly , while CoH " demands" per some posters here, a feature only offered in SP3.
i doubt it
to those who think " newer is better" , i guess you are choosing to overlook the Vista fiasco
i wouldnt trade 1 copy of XP for 10 of the bug riddled and disastrous Vista.
my point is this- the game worked fine yesterday- it wont run today.i dont need the headache.i still say if it aint broke , dont fix it , the object when offering a service is to design it to where it is available to the widest possible audience, as painlessly as possible.
this is like being refused an oil - change on your 2004 model, you need to "upgrade to the 2011 model" since your car is no longer warranty supported. if i'm paying for the oil change...
oh well, you get the point - all i'm sayin is this was needlessly created hassle, and we are not amused.
People need to understand that a game developer can only anticipate so much because everyone uses different hardware then different drivers then different operating systems then different service packs then different security updates then different software (anti-virus, malware, etc...etc..)....see what I'm getting at? At some point the chain breaks and sadly the fault may be on our end or the fault may be on their end. The problem in coming to a solution is figuring out what is at the root of the issues. Our systems or their code. A continuous cycle at best but one that probably will never change. We want to play NOW.....patience is a virtue.
