gotten it three times today. one when loggin into a toon that was sitting in Talos Island and the game booted me, then i re-verified the files (repair - consistency check) and relogged into the same toon and it logged just fine. went to Steel Canyon to do the "enter midnighters club" mish and it came up with the same error when i clicked the door. relogged and didnt check the files again and it wouldnt let the toon log into the midnighters club. hadnt tried again but im reverifying and ill see if i can get him out.

I've heard of a few people crashing due to this same problem (and I've had individual textures go black on me with message boxes); it's definitely something wrong with the game and not your setup.

NCsoft support is blissfully ignorant as usual and will send you down a roundabout path of disabling your antivirus software and whatever else they can think of, but the problem lies in the City of Heroes software.

I downloaded/use Defraggler. I like it a lot because it shows the files that are borked. After a patch/maintainance it's the CoH pigg files that are the worst. I have gotten into a habit of defragging before I enter the game, after a change. It seems to save me from mapserves and other problems some people are experiencing. See if this might work for you also.

eh, im not really worried about it so much. just thought id pass along the issue to the forumites.

after i re-verified he logged into the midnighters club just fine but i could see a huge difference in the FPS. the openGL crash hit me before i could guage the FPS numbers and see what the difference was. the FPS drop may have been related to the openGL issue but after that crash and relog the toon went from the midnighters club all the way back to talos with no issues.

LKN_351, are you still seeing the "Corrupt pig file" messages?

If so, can you try running with '-verify' in your command line arguments? In the Launcher, right-click on the game and select 'Properties' and put the '-verify' (no quotes) in the "Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced)" box.

hadnt seen it since, although i hadnt played quite as often as usual since i posted this either.

Tex, is that the same as running the 'repair' option in the updater?

Similar, but not the same.

id say its safe to assume that the verify command only does as it says it does and repair verifies and then does some other thing that my magic 8-ball doesnt want to tell me right now.

oh, and 2nd FPARN LOL
ok i think im done with that jazz

'-verify' happens at the beginning of the game.
'Repair (Check Consistency)' in the Launcher happens in the Launcher
'Verify All Files' happens in the old CohUpdater.

And yes, '-verify' just checks all of the files and does not attempt to fix them.

FPAWN?

Tex, I've been getting this off and on since i20 and the last few times I've paid attention to the message. They're usually different pigg files that have the problem. Here's the last one I got:

Quote:
./piggs/texWorld.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
Read failed for file: texture_library/WORLD/organizations/AuctionHouse/BlackMarket_Cab.texture
-1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again
So that looks like a texture file for the black market, and I got it as I was flying towards the market in sharkhead. After crashing I loaded the game back up WITHOUT doing any kind of repair or verification and then went to the sharkhead auction house to see if it would happen again. It didn't, so I would think that the client is having trouble loading files for whatever reason but there's no actual problem with the files themselves. Hopefully all that helps.

Try to check your memory usage.
Mine increases around 0.1 GB per run, and hitting 1.6 GB (equalling 5-6 runs) makes the game crash. The error code following differs, but corrupt pigg file is one of them.

This happens to be the bug that crashes me about 90% of the time while running trials. Very seldom does it ever happen anywhere else other then while running a BAF or a Lambda.

I've received this bug a few times in the past week, the latest being last night, after clicking on one of the Vanguard Tailors. The Tailor screen appeared, but the skyline background was missing, so everything was dull grey. The error message looked like the skyline texture was missing, but everything was fine after a reboot (and no verify or repair was done).

I am encountering a similar problem:

Read failed for file: texture_library/GUI/CREATION/common/Backgrounds/background_skyline_normal.texture
-1

after doing a repair and verify it seems to only partially helped as it still seems to pop up now and then

the corrupt pigg files that usually cause my game to crash are any type of various character model pieces

some examples that popped up (nothing has popped up more than once):

  • marauders gloves
  • escapee boots
  • random player chest emblems
  • textures of some kind which appear on NPC/player models

as ive mentioned ive never had the same corrupt file twice ever, even though ive prolly had a dozen or more corrupt file messages since i20 release, i just restart the game and it usually runs fine with no clue why the texture was declared corrupt to crash the game (except in the case of marauders gloves because it was during the cutscene and his glove pieces were completely missing as the message popped up)

the odd thing about it though is that its never the same thing twice and after restarting the game it seemed to clear up whatever issue it was having
