  1. I use flight and hover with all of my MMs. It's not the fastest but it's by far the most flexible.

    New Memory Leak?

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 Pro x86 machine w/4 GB & a NVIDIA 460 video card w/1GM DDR5. I even created a separate profile which I boot into hoping that I can play longer.

Here is what I noticed: As I play, the amount of free RAM goes up and down. However, the curve is downward and when it reaches around the ~425 MB mark, I know that I can expect it to crash... and it does. It's worse in Praetoria and in the new zones. It really seems like a memory leak and as I am capped at 4 GB (~3.2 GB) with the x86 version of Win 7 Pro, the only way out will be for me to format and load the 64 bit version then add another 4GB of RAM.

It is as if the devs don't really seem to care as "RAM is cheap". It might be the case but us 32-bitters hit the wall with 4GB of physical RAM. CoX wasn't like this before (sigh). It's definitely not processing power (see signature)

Needless to say, RAM is *NOT* an "infinite" resource and can be used up ... very quickly with many of the Ultra Mode graphics options dialed up full blast, even if your graphics card is capable of supporting the computations at the speed necessary to do them.
I tend to agree with you as I also got constant crashes due to memory. I am running an overclocked AMD x6 1090T (at 3.8 GHz/core) w/4GB & Win 7 x86 and the video is a nVIDIA GTX460. I do run some apps in the background but until about a year ago, this was not an issue. CoH started crashing with memory problems. I monitored what was happening and when I start, I have over 2 GB free but during gaming, it drops and when it reaches around 400 MB, CoH crashes.

Apart from going to the x64 version and adding more RAM, there are not many options. So I elected to create another user on my system and when I start my computer, I use that minimalist profile. It greatly helps with the game but quite honestly, the problem is memory MISMANAGEMENT (sigh)

  5. I got the same error just now:

    ============================
    ./piggs/fonts.pigg: Failed memory allocation
    Read failed for file: fonts/msgothic.ttc
    -1

The game ran out of memory and must now exit.
    ===============================

When I got dumped, I noted that I had around 500 MB of RAM left. Once the app fully exited, this went up to 1.8 GB of free RAM. I am running Win 7 Pro x86 w/4GB of RAM (not all addressable). Now I do have other apps running so next time I play, I'll stop all but the essential stuff and see how it goes. I am wondering if one now needs to run x64 & 6GB+ lol
  6. I am encountering a similar problem:

    ./piggs/texGui2.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
    Read failed for file: texture_library/GUI/CREATION/common/Backgrounds/background_skyline_normal.texture
    -1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

    Re-ran, fixed twice now ;-(

Having said that, I would think your system is starved for RAM and bogged down by writing to the hard drive. You've got a high-end 6 core CPU. I see the BOINC application (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, for everyone else reading this) running. How many threads are you letting that use? I have it running 8 threads and that's taking over 1.5GB of RAM right there.

I ask because you have only 4GB of RAM and, on top of that, the system can't access all of it because you have a 32 bit version of Windows. You've got a race car engine in the family minivan.
Ironblade --> I always shutdown (not pause) BOINC when I play so that's not the issue. As for RAM, there is nothing much I can do without moving to the 64-bit version of Win 7. This being said, you do have me wondering about memory... I'll create a profile where ONLY CoX and core items are loaded. I'll see if I still have these problems. One other area to investigate is my primary HDD. It's a 7200 RPM drive (used to be a 10,000 RPM Raptor). I might switch to a VelociRaptor or a SSD.

BTW, running Win 7's Performance Information Tool, I get scores above 7.6 out of 7.9, except for the primary HDD which drags the number down to 5.9. My CPU is OC'd to 3.8 GHz/core and my memory is running at 1066 MHz (effective).
  8. This is getting frustrating. I can play foir a while then for no apparent reason, CoX crashes (image freezes, sound loops or stops, then error message saying that CoX needs to close as it crashed. Tried with almost all non CoX software turned off... same problem.

    Any ideas???

I just relied on what your model number referred to. I am relieved to read that you did not get the 300W PSU, especially since you have over 21k posts over here ;-)

    At least, until I exit.

When I shut the game down, it just hangs. I have to open Task Manager, and end it there.
Per the following link, your HP only has a 300W power supply (http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-...-33968313.html).

If so, then this is more than likely your problem as the GTX460 is probably pushing your supply past its limit.

I use the nVIDIA GTX460 (1GB) card with an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor (no overclocking) and my PSU is a 700W model.
  11. Playing CoX is getting to be frustrating as it often crashes while I load missions, enter missions, exit missions, pull down menus, etc. I thought it might have been my GTX260 but it's still happening with my GTX460.

I think the one you are looking for is:
/+netgraph (or /netgraph 1) to turn it on
/-netgraph (or /netgraph 0) to turn it off

Bind it to a key (toggle on/off):
    /bind KEY ++netgraph
Thanks MB... that's exactly what I was looking for ;-)
  13. Where can I find a list of /commands for CoH/V/GR? More specifically, I would like to display the data rate on the screen while I play.

I am trying to isolate the reason why CoX keeps on crashing and one of the areas I need to check is the data connection. I know that there is a /command to do this, but I can't recall where to find the list.
  14. This is getting very frustrating. Since GR, CoX started crashing while zoning or exiting missions. Now it occurs while playing. My hardware is listed in my signature. Anyone else experiencing this???

  15. I have the same problem. I also noticed that it occurs much more frequently in Praetorius. Never was an issue before.

Don't know what operating system you are using, but right-click on the desktop, for Win 7, select screen resolution and tell us what you see. If it's another OS, go to the equivalent screen and tell us the setting. One other way is to run "HijackThis" and post the results. FWIW, I run CoX in 1920 x 1200 all the time and I don't see what you are seeing...
  17. FWIW, I started having very similar issues on my system. I'll wait a few more days before trying to downgrade the drivers.
  18. Flashfox

    AE and EXP

Why take it away? Not all people like the follow the storyline.

In AE, you still have "the farmers" and those who want to get to 50 the fast & furious way. I say so what? It's their choice!

I have been on fantastic teams and on horrible ones. It's always my choice to stay or to leave. If the team is absolutely horrible, then I politely quit (i.e. don't just click on the leave team button).

As a FYI, I have been consistently active since the beta days and I haven't explored all of the game's offerings. For example, although I have dabbled (and had fun) in PvP zones, I do not play in the market or work on enhanced builds. No big deal for me... but I have a lot of fun and I do help others.

So remember that this game is not monolithic... there is a vast cross section of interests and the devs are certainly trying to satisfy all categories of players. If you encounter a horrible AE team, then nothing forces you to stay. After all, it's just a game ;-)

Just got 64bit for my desktop, but thats with 8gigs of ram and a quad core,
the poor little laptop is nothing in comparison.
Make sure that you have access to 64-bit drivers for your laptop. Contrary to desktops, laptops often have semi-custom drivers. Check before you move to the 64-bit OS.

IMHO, I would stick to 32-bit OS for your laptop and focus your 64-bit efforts on your desktop. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on a HP Mini Netbook w/1GB RAM & 160GB HDD (came with Win 7 Starter) and I have seen no performance hits. As a matter of fact, the HP Netbook is running just as fast as my XP based laptop. Then again, I am not playing demanding games either.
  20. Forget ReadyBoost as your target system specs would pretty much render it useless. As mentioned in an earlier post, ReadyBoost was concocted by Microsoft to offer some help to those who migrated from anemic XP boxes to Vista. ReadyBoost had its own set of problems and I am happy that it is being relegated to history. More memory and faster drives are now the norm... especially at their low price points.
  21. "Yes"!

I went from Vista Business x86 SP2 to Windows 7 Professional x86. IMHO, Win 7 is what Vista was supposed to be.

    - Stable.
    - More compatible (tried a lot of legacy hardware and Win 7 never failed)
    - Faster than Vista (on par with XP).

Next time I reformat my drive, I will switch to the 64-bit version (same DVD, same license)

Hmm... you state that we might not have enough "servers" but what I see on a regular basis is that on some "servers", there are very little players and teaming is not easy. You know that there are "servers" which are teaming with players while others are sparsely populated. I started over 63 months ago on Guardian. Since then, I have toons on more populous servers (Freedom, etc.). I would like to move my toons from Guardian but at $9.99/toon it's not worth it (after all, it is just a game).

So "if" we are short on "servers", then perhaps some load balancing is in order? Time will tell if it's the best way to go, but CO's approach makes it super easy to move from one "server" to another.
  23. I also expect to see CoX fade in the future... far future that is.

I was a beta tester and a subscriber to the now defunct "Tabula Rasa" and "Auto Assault". Both showed promise but missed the mark (I agree with the "guided approach" for TR... pity). I beta tested Champions Online and I am presently a subscriber to CO. I really stopped playing CoX for a while and focused on CO. However, over the past few weeks, I see myself coming back to CoX and really enjoying it. Don't ask me why? Familiarity? Simple fun? I don't know... but there is something in CoX which keeps me here (63+ months).

Suggestion 1: There are too many servers on CoX and not enough players on many of them. I am considering moving my toons to more populated servers but I balk at the $9.99/toon fee. CO uses a different approach where you can jump servers at will. It's a different architecture and I wonder if the slowness I see at times is not due to this fact (too many users online). In any event, if one is stuck on a low-use server, it does get lonely.

Suggestion 2: I have many toons and there should be an easy way to move influence between them. The only way now is to enlist a trusted friend to act as an intermediate. I don't see why PS cannot offer this (for a fee - like a certain % of influence, etc.)

Current Nvidia 64-bit driver version for the GTS250 is 195.62. If you don't have that, then you need to download it from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_wi...5.62_whql.html
