New Memory Leak?

I have been having a lot pf problems since I've started playing CoH again with crashing. I have tried a lot of different methods to try to fix my issue, and I've figured out that it seems to be memory leak. Is anyone else having this issue, and if so, is there a way to fix it?

Thanks!

Okay, so I've been bugged to death to be more specific. (Silly I think, but nevertheless...)

The crash happens usually between 15-25 minutes after I have logged into the game. It usually happens when I am in an instance, but has also happened when I am traveling between missions or I am just standing around on the main maps. I start to lag more and then the screen goes black, and then eventually Windows tells me that the game has stopped responding and closes the game and takes me back to the desktop.

So far, I have tried updating my drivers, reinstalling the game, a hotfix I found, forcing the .piggs files to redownload, minimizing my graphic settings, and disabling the rewards icon. Nothing has worked so far and any help would be appreciated.

Really? I haven't tried that yet. I'll try that and see how it works, then post my results. Thanks!

So, I tried exiting the launcher like you recommended, and it didn't really help. It crashed about 15 minutes into the game. However, this time it did say that the display driver had stopped working and had to restart as well as the usual windows telling me that the game had stopped responding.

From my research, I do not think your GPU meets the minimum specs for the game.

In case I am wrong on that:

Have you tried uninstalling your video drivers, cleaning them out with something like Driver Sweeper and reinstalling the most up to date for your GPU?

Other than that, your RAM is on the low side (I'm not sure why the minimum specs say 512MB or more...). Is there a computer upgrade in your near future?

I haven't done a total clean, but I have installed the newest drivers. And as for the computer upgrade, it's a foggy maybe.

I am seeing a similar problem with CoH lately. No crashes, but very noticeable lag/slowdown. I loose animation, powers appear recharged but aren't. Jump from position to position. This happens no matter what the server load is like, and stops if I quit to desktop and re-launch the game. Is there some way to track a memory leak?

You said you tried exiting the launcher, but did you change the settings "within the launcher options" to close/exit?

I do have the launcher to auto-exit after launch, and auto-updates are turned off.

anyone runing an Nvidia card......

Make sure you turned off that one program that your card comes bundled with.....the one that lets you make videos and such with certain keystrokes......that particular program causes issues with many video games.....you can still run the rest of the Screen Display Doctor stuff...just that program tends to cause issues like what is being told...with the freezes after so long and the constant not responding thing....can also simply make some games not start up...like fallout for example....or borderlands.

I myself uninstalled that video capture software and just run the other things.

but...this is most likely and issue with the game itself.....
I say this becasue someone posted thay are using a GTX 580...and i hate to say this....graphic issues just are not going to happen on that card.....
I have the previous model I use...a GTX 480....so i might simply be biased here.

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 Pro x86 machine w/4 GB & a NVIDIA 460 video card w/1GM DDR5. I even created a separate profile which I boot into hoping that I can play longer.

Here is what I noticed: As I play, the amount of free RAM goes up and down. However, the curve is downward and when it reaches around the ~425 MB mark, I know that I can expect it to crash... and it does. It's worse in Praetoria and in the new zones. It really seems like a memory leak and as I am capped at 4 GB (~3.2 GB) with the x86 version of Win 7 Pro, the only way out will be for me to format and load the 64 bit version then add another 4GB of RAM.

It is as if the devs don't really seem to care as "RAM is cheap". It might be the case but us 32-bitters hit the wall with 4GB of physical RAM. CoX wasn't like this before (sigh). It's definitely not processing power (see signature)

I have 4GB of RAM, although on a 64bit OS... tbh i have never actually crashed out due to running out of RAM...

Honestly, I think the game is pretty much at the max of what's viable for a 32-bit OS right now. You can tweak the game to use slightly more memory, but this takes away from the memory available to the OS itself, possibly causing crashes on the back-end.

While a 64-bit OS isn't REQUIRED at this point, in my not-so-humble opinion, it's REALLY a good recommendation nowadays.

As for the OP. You're running Vista on a machine sporting 2GB of RAM with less than half of it actually available things other than the OS. The game client itself will EASILY eat half of that, if not more. Tacking in another 2GB of RAM might ameliorate the problem, but it won't get rid of it completely, due to the things I've mentioned above.

If you are considering a memory upgrade. The previous link is for your particular system. $50 for 4GB.

Now, I'm sure some of this is just sloppy coding on the programmers' parts, and the game could probably benefit from a good once-over to tighten up the code a bit (I have YET to meet a software product that couldn't).

But, at the end of the day, you're still faced with the fact that the game is gradually growing beyond the constraints of a 32-bit Windows OS. So now is the time to start laying the groundwork to an upgrade (or migration) to 64-bit computing.

Yes, I changed the settings in the Launcher options menu. It has not helped.

Thank you all for your help so far! Looks like my best option will be to upgrade to a better laptop since the one I have can't be upgraded. Thanks again!

Well, that's your best-case option.

If that's not financially doable in the short term, you can at least do a memory upgrade. That'll help offset SOME of the issue.
