16:9 resolution help

Hi guys -

Just loaded COH onto a new Dell XPS 16 laptop with native 1920x1080 on a 16:9 screen.

However, whenever I set the ingame resolution to 1920x1080, when I next launch the game, the screen is so big that I can't even see the login/password boxes.

I keep having to force a windowed 1024x768 resolution using the launcher in order to see anything, and the graphics quality looks poor (this new rig has a Radeon 5770 or some other higher end card).

How do I get the resolution set right in game?

Are you absolutely sure you computer is set to 1920x1080 resolution?

Your problem sounds like the game is setting its resolution to 1920x1080, but your computer is only displaying 1024x768 of it, which is why it looks so huge and cuts off most of the game screen.

Your game resolution has to match or be lower than the resolution you set at the desktop.

yes, it's set to 1920 x 1080 for sure .

i think maybe the aspect ratio is throwing things off?

i can improve the picture by in-game raising the UI scaling, but it only goes up to like 1024 x512 or something

when i try setting the launcher to launch windowed at 1920 x 1080, it still opens the game bigger than the screen

any other thoughts?

Don't know what operating system you are using, but right-click on the desktop, for Win 7, select screen resolution and tell us what you see. If it's another OS, go to the equivalent screen and tell us the setting. One other way is to run "HijackThis" and post the results. FWIW, I run CoX in 1920 x 1200 all the time and I don't see what you are seeing...

Yeah, I'm guessing he doesn't even know his desktop is really set at 1024x768. That's the only way I can think of the UI scale being limited to 1024x512 and the obvious scalign issue he experiences in full screen.

The monitor's native resolution may be 1920x1080, but someone has to manually set it to that when everything is first installed and sometimes when the graphics driver is updated.

If you don't manually set it then the monitor will display the absolute minimum resolution.
That is that way to ensure it doesn't fry an integrated graphics chip or very underpowered graphics card when starting up.

Edit:
I know this because I recently built a new computer with a native 1920x1080 monitor and had to do this myself.

Edit 2:
1024x512 would actually be a 2:1 ratio!?! I've never known any monitor or TV or anything to be at a ratio like that.
I bet it is still 1024x768 windowed mode to get something like that.

As they said GA, double check to see that your desktop resolution is actually what it says it is. Then in order to change your resolution in game DO NOT select 1920 x 1080. Select 1920 x 1080 (desktop). For some reason selecting your desktop resolution without selecting the one that is linked to match your desktop has caused resolution problems in the past and it may be that the bug has cropped up again.
