Cant Play after NVidia driver update

Posted

I was having issues in game with the gfx (being able to see UI and tart name and window yet the whole 3d world was blacked out. also going into the new lab map and the halls being pure white)

so i looked and noticed the driver had an update. now when i go to log into game i get as far as server selection then game stops to respond.

tried a different server (one i have no toons on) and was able to build a new toon UNTIL i go to costume generation. game locks up.

I have the NVidia GeForce GTX 260

would realy like to be able to play again

There appears to be a problem with the latest batch of drivers as several people including myself had issues after the last update. I'm guessing you downloaded 258. Try rolling back to 257 and that should fix it.

I downloaded 258.96 today and didn't install it. And now I probably won't.

Yes i rolled back to the 257.21 and got the game working again.
the 258.96 seems to have issues with the game (but no other game or application)

good to know, my "display driver has stopped responding" issue has increased significantly.

Funny, I've been using 258.96 since it was released as Beta and have had no problems with them. Maybe it depends on the Nvidia chip? I'm running a 480.

I had problems with the new drivers as well. Running an 8800 GT. The new drivers caused me to freeze everytime I entered an SG base, rolling back to 257.21 fixed it

Good to know I wasn't the only one with issues w/258.96

Didn't know about the more recent ones before that, so I rolled back to 197.45 (My most recent download before 258). I'll have to see if I can get the 257 and see if that'll work.

Thank you for the time...

Not really having any major issues, saw the thread and decided to see if NVidia had an updated driver. They do, I was downloading it, and read that it doesn't always work very well with some of the systems out there. I'll leave it alone.

Do you have two cards running SLI? I was having a LOT of trouble recently with sudden and frequent freezes and crashes - even with some slightly older drivers. All I had to do was disable SLI, and the game works just fine (apparently CoH doesn't support SLI or Crossfire anyways...)

That's a no-go for me. The 258.96 drivers are the first drivers to support the GTX 460.

It's apparently a known issue, and there is talk of a set of Beta drivers coming out Wednesday.

Same here. I just got a new 460 after this issue first appeared, thinking that would fix it. There was another issue before that, and the old card did have trouble, so all is well that well. Anyhow, I've been prevented from playing GR thanks to this, so hopefully those betas work.

My only recommendation is to ramp up the fan on the video cards. You can do this with MSI Afterburner or EVGA precision, however the applications must be off after you set the fan speed, as they both produce some kind of conflict with CoH while running.

Yes, the 258.96 seems to have some kind of issue with restarting. Ramping up the fan speed to cool it down merely delays the auto-shutdown thing, as I have had it happen after 3 hours of gameplay. My card is a GTX 275, if anyone is wondering.

Gawd...i hope this is the problem I've been having...I'll be playing, everything smooth and looking good...then my monitor goes black, says "No Signal Detected" and the sound starts looping...have to do a hard restart...Could this be happening because of heat? I have manually turned up my fan and the temperature never seems go get above 80c.
*shrugs*

Very very upsetting though...will try rolling back 8(

I just had this problem on my old computer. It turned out it was a loose cable. Any dogs, cats, toddlers or moms with vacum cleaners around?

curiouser and curiouser. I defininitely had this issue, which started when I downloaded the newest drivers and is the same with my new 460, which can use only those drivers.

The odd thing is, safe mode works, but only as long as I stay out of Praetoria. Loading a Praetorian freezes as soon as the loading bar fills up and starting a new one does it when I try to go to the ID screen. Haven't tried loading up a non-Praetorian, but I'm guess based on some things that that probably works in safe mode.

I really hope those beta drivers someone mentioned coming out comes out soon. I plunked down cast for a GR preorder and have been unable to play the game out all since that expansion game out.

I dunno if I found the right Beta Drivers, but they failed too. Hell, they failed so hard, that when I removed the 460, I couldn't install the drivers for my onboard video. It would start to install, then instantly finish, and say, "No modifications were made to the system". I had to use System Restore, and go back 5 days.

I ended up calling EVGA, and the awesome Tech guy Dave found it odd that the card was hitting temps of 100+. So he set up an RMA for me. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't already have to RMA my new PSU because it was DOA. *sigh*

For all you GTX 460 owners out there: There are 259.32 drivers available for Windows 7 (x86 and x64) available on Guru3D. I am using them now with my new card and while I am not that impressed, I CAN play the game with them. They haven't locked me up or anything. If that changes, I will let you all know. I installed the card LATE last night, had enough time to overclock it to 900/1800/2000, ensure solid temps, loaded the game, then ran around Praetoria for a bit.

I say I'm not impressed because my framerates SHOULD be higher and I should be able to ratchet up the settings a bit. Right now I just seem to be able to get comparable performance to my old card (GTX 260 SC).

I thought I'd let you all know, just in case you've been chomping at the bit to play and/or install your new card!

Ok, I've done some tweaking and got the framerates to respectable levels, although it does drop near the television station in Imperial City for some reason (all the TV screens? Not sure...) Anyway, in missions my framerate stays up around 45-80fps, and outside, It's in the 30s most of the time. My settings aren't maxed by any means, but I did get all the detail settings to max, with decent looking shadows, occlusion, etc. I'm definitely looking at a prettier game, especially the character models! So, if you're dying to try your GTX 460 out on the new zones, I'd say give these new drivers a try! Oh yeah, NO crashing whatsoever, GPU staying at a reasonable 62C @ 73% fanspeed (auto setting) with an aircooled (but admittedly very good airflow designed) case.

Edit: Okay, there's definitely more tweaking that needs to be done for the GTX 460 on this game, but it's definitely playable at respectably high settings. On a brighter note, Mafia II looks and plays amazing! Buttery smooth, incredible detail, just a great experience overall (and that was another game that wasn't performing well with those 258.32 drivers). So... I'd say CoX is doable with these latest drivers, but we should see some better ones here in a few weeks!

So there are new drivers for some of you all?

That stinks for me then, because there are none for Windows XP. I'm stuck with 258.96, which is imcompatible with the game.

I hope they release the ones that I need soon.

Yeah, cat, sorry about that. These aren't "official" drivers in the sense that they've been posted to NVidia's website. I do believe they are working on a new official release, probably beta, here shortly (should have been a day or two ago, but no love... checking... nope, still no love...). I'm sorry that you still can't use your incredible new card for this game! Still, congrats on the purchase, I am THRILLED with mine!
